So i've been kinda hyped about this game since e3 last year. it seemed to havde alot going for it. Fast forward almost a year later and we have a demo on XBL marketplace that runs like a dog in HD and Reviews and outcrys that the game is crap. My desire to drop $60 on a game that may just well suck wasnt helping either but lo and behold I decided that PDzero wasnt my cup o' tea so it got traded :D

I went in expecting the absolute worse with reviews being all over the place and the demo sucking so bad but the game is actually pretty damn solid. Not A+ material but some good mayhem and destruction.

If the gameplay were a soup it would be a cross between burnout 3s takedown mode, bunkasha's wreckless, the pace of the old DC classic speed devils and the mayhem of GTA 3s "oh i'm not gonna follow missions just drive around and cause trouble" style of play. Stir all of those together and throw them on huge san francisco rush style course layouts and that pretty much what you have here. A racer with machine guns and I like it.

Back to the levels and destruction...theres much fun to be had. I liked being able to just see a whirlwind of destruction at all times. It really never stops. Some were worried about what happens when you're in first place and theres nothing left to do well for that there are destruction points. You get scored on how much crap you blow up and wreck. from careening through buildings to plowing through oncoming traffic with machine guns blazing, it all has a point value. Kinda like burnouts crash mode.

The levels themselves are pretty big. One thing that we'll see alot of with this new hardware is just flat out huge levels. Not so much the course layout being too big but the surroundings are just nice. Along with all the jumps and hidden paths and alleys and drive thru buildings the courses sport a pretty decent draw distance. Expected yes but seeing a world so big that can all be blown up pretty much is cool.

Something else borrowed from burnout or maybe even ridge racers would be your boost meter which fills by drifting and catching good air. Believe me you'll need boost. sometimes when you're up fighting to get to first the only way to see through thr chaos is to make your way out of it. Hell even in first you feel like you are being pursued ala GTA 4 star mode. boosting helps with evasion.

Graphically Full auto again ain't too shabby. Definately a step up from the demo. The cars vary from classic dick tracy style low riders to SUVs to luxury style limos and lexus look alikes all with reflective surfaces and chrome trim. Very nice looking. Even most of the drone cars look pretty nice. The textures around the city are also a step above the last gen and again theres just so much on the screen. from buildings that can be smashed thru to smoke and glass just flying all over the place its all good. As far as slowdown goes again, its nowhere as bad as the demo. pretty stable 60fps. When it does get bad it seems level specific. I dont believe the canyon level runs all that stable but it may be because of the HDR lighting beaming all over the place but thats no excuse.

The only time the framerate has gotten really bad so far is when I happened to pick off a rival waaaaaaaaaaay far ahead and the camera zoomed through the destruction to show off the kill but that replay feature CAN be turned off to minimize the chop. The game looks and runs well both in SD and HD with its quirks here and there but its nowhere near unplayable or as bad as the demo.

The sound is great. shattering glass, explosions, machine guns all good. The music is your standard detruction techno/rock. nothing to write home about but does its job.

Overall I'd say if you enjoy mindless destruction i'd pick it up. Worth $60? Eh. No 360 game has been worth 60 yet IMO but frys will have it for $44 tomorrow and if you have a game you arent doing anything with lying around then do yourself a favor and pick up full auto. Funny thing is i havent even touched live yet and i already know it'll be a blast with LIVE. Just imagine a cross between rush and burnout over live and that has to be something good. I sound have LIVE impressions within the next day or so and will update. Solid title. high 7, low 8 before hitting LIVE.

"No 360 game has been worth 60 yet"

maybe you should stop playing crap like Full Auto and experience good games like Cod2 and Condemned then.

Look I know the guys at PI who made Full Auto and they're good guys but this game sucks.

COD2 is okay, but it gets repetitive toward the end. NFS:MW isn't bad if you enjoy racing games. It's the game I've spent the most time playing.

PGR3. Heck, play Marble Blast Ultra. It has better graphics than Super Monkey Ball. ;)

No...it doesn't.

And umm, while it's a nice game. SMB >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> x 100000000000000 >> MBU.

i was gonna mention condemned as the ONE being worth 60 but i'm finally approaching the end of it and it was way too short to be a $60 game. and saying it sucks...hmmm...have you played the finished game or are you still basing your opinion off of the broken demo? Atleast give it a rent. especially if you are a fan of burnout.

It was a joke dude. I just received my new 360 back from MS, and have been able to experience this game (MBU) in color for the first time.

And yes, I'm a big fan of SMB as well.

Eventhough Wresckless was pretty shallow atleast it had great graphics.

For its time (2002), Wreckless was graphically unparalleled on consoles and for this reason alone, it's more impressive than Full Auto.

I'm enjoying Full Auto quite a bit. Burnout with guns, with a framerate hitch here and there.

Note: Not playing on an HDTV. HDTVs are apparently too weak to handle the true power of Das Xboxen 360.

full auto is well beyond wreckless graphically. there's just so much going on. it is indeed next gen. have you even played the finished product massive & renegade or are you guys just replying out of your anal? spot on white man. slower pace than burn out but with machine guns. i swear its like BO and SF rush rolled into one.

I'm also really enjoying the mindless fun of Full Auto. I'm not sure how long I'll hang onto it, but I like it enough for now. I'll probably hop on Live with it for the night now.

Games like PGR3 are easily worth $60. (to say nothing of Kameo, NBA 2K6, COD2) If not a single one of these AAA games aren't worth buying for $60 to you then you must not like most games very much anyore.

Yeah, he must not like most games very much anymore because he doesn't wanna buy PGR3, CoD2, or Kameo for $60.

Wait, what the fuck?

wait so we are comparing wreckless directly with full auto now :lol

Anyone saying it's a bad game should get slapped across the head, it's not. It's just not a great game. The graphics are pretty nice, but you don't get time to enjoy those generally. It has nice gameplay which is fundementally flawed in some area's which make the weapon load-outs unbalanced and unfair. I enjoyed it while it lasted, I have 1000 gamerscore now, and I'm putting it aside because I have 30 other games to play. But it' pretty fun online, especially when you get a train of destruction going (just driving slow blowing each other up).

This game lacks THE essential game mode, which is an arena mode where its just deathmatch, no laps, no racing. It's just not completely finished which is a shame. But it's not bad by any means. Around 6 or 7 out of ten should be fair enough score and contrary to popular belief, a game which gets a 6 or 7 is not bad and can still be fun.

Early playing gives this a 7.5

Why, because it's not that polished, yet to notice any real slowdown. Need for Speed Most Wanted runs below 30 and you can tell when it dips. So far, not with Full Auto. Like Blimbllim said, the interface isn't all that great, and that is true. It's not sleek or modern. Unneeded menu jumps to get to where you need to be. The However, there is a lot of fun to be had. The sheer amount of shit that is breakable is nice as fuck. Other than that, I agree with Kobold.

I strongly disagree.

I saw this game reviewed on Xplay last night and for the first 20 seconds, I thought it was a PS2 game. Only when I turned the volume up and heard Morgan say "Full Auto for Xbox 360" did I realize the truth.

Next gen am cry.

My eyes are fine, thank you.

I've been playing games for almost 30 years, and I tell you, the damn thing looked like a PS2 game. Granted, seeing games in real life is the best way to form an opinion - I'm just saying that from the footage shown on Xplay, Full Auto looked like a PS2 game: Not-so-great textures, slowdown during explosions, the whole bit.

And as I said, the volume on the TV was down. I had no preconceived opinions of the game based on what platform it was on. I was disappointed, but not surprised, to hear that it was 360.

What the hell's going on with that platform, anyway?

you're entitled to your opinion bro. but i was playing SMB2 on my gamecube this past weekend to compare it to marble blast, and i was having way more fun with MBU. not jumping really sucked for me. :lol

i wouldn't say xbox 1.5 simply because of the sheer amount of stuff being thrown around. not only that but theres tons of little details all over the place that bring the game well beyond last gen. and saying it looks like a ps2 game just shows us you.re probably living in mom's basement using the old quasar. :lol move out and get a tv that isn't 2o years old.

I checked Best Buy, they say PGR3 is worth $50, so I am confused.

It's ok to be confused...the fact is the game is worth $60, myself and many others would have paid $60 for it and been happy.

I've played through all the missions on the first two 'modes' - training and the one after training.

So far, it's 'meh'. Not crap, but nothing special. It feels like Twisted Metal, but in a lap structure and thus, not as fun. I loved the demo, but damn did they fuck some of the final design up. The Hunter mode is just stupid - one crash and you die, with that shitty handling? Shut up.

MOOOOMMMM! Can you come downstairs? The rabbit ears fell off the TV again!

:)

Actually, I use a 36" Sony WEGA that's about three years old. But it's clear that watching video footage from a TV show is not the same as seeing the game in person, so I'm sure the game looks better than what I saw.

handling varies per car as it should. the python handles like a dream! when i got that car last night i was like wow.

If you had read my very short post a bit more carefully, you would have noticed that I wasn't comparing Wreckless to Full Auto. Rather, I was stating that for its time (2002), Wreckless' visual impact for a console game was very significant and clearly demonstrated HW effects (pixel/vertex/fresnel terms) that were not possible on PS2/GC.

It certainly lit up message boards all over the net, got Seamus Blackley to showcase it on stage with Gates at CES and had an impact that Full Auto simply has not.

Funny... I wonder what the Bunkasha boys are up to now. ;-) ;-)

oh so you haven't played the retail version then. i see.

I doubt many have or will ever play it due to the bad demo and reviews stating the full game isn't any better than the demo.

Nice to know you like it. But that's not gonna get people to buy the game when everyone else says it sucks.

I just feel better about buying something when I know it cost them 5 bucks to sell it to me. If I had to pay 60 I probably wouldnt have picked it up.

there have been several good reviews as well as several bad ones though... egm gave it 8.0, 8.0, 8.5 for example

The concept of the game doesnt quite make it a direct competitor to Burnout. But thats what it is being compared to which makes it difficult for this game.

The thing is, a demo is intended to represent a game. In the case of a game such as this, it seems unlikely that the final product will differ heavily from the demo. If you found the demo to be "OK", perhaps it would be worth looking at the final...but I found the demo to be garbage. I doubt the final game fundamentally changed the game to the point that I would suddenly be able to enjoy it. Bad controls, awful framerate, and bland track design. Most reviews seem to suggest that these are still problems.

I will say that, occasionally, a demo really DOES fail to represent something...but more often than not, it isn't true.

I dont know how sega managed to break the custom soundtrack feature but they did it. It defaults back to the regular soundtrack after every race. Also, there are a shit load of people playing on xbox live. Way more than ive ever seen in Doa 4. Dont know if that means its selling well. One other thing to add, the framerate online seems to be better than it is in single player but neither are really any worse than need for speed was.

Well that's good to know cause I personally never saw any framerate problems with NFS:MW at all. I can't wait for this game. I get it on Saturday.
