Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Metal: Hellslinger developer The Outsiders is being shuttered by parent company Funcom.

The Outsiders founder and creative director David Goldfarb shared the news on Bluesky and explained the decade-old studio will be closing its doors.

The news comes days after Funcom confirmed it would be making layoffs just months after million-seller Dune: Awakening became the "biggest release" in its history.

Funcom didn't explain how many people will be impacted by the cuts, but we now know that one internal studio has been torched.

The Outsiders is credited with working on Dune: Awakening. It's unclear how many people will lose their jobs at the Stockholm studio as a result of the closure.

"I have not had much time to process the news but all of us at The Outsiders and Funcom Stockholm have been affected by the layoffs at Funcom and our 10 year old studio will be closing," said Goldfarb.

"Many of us had survived a near-death studio experience years back when Darkborn was cancelled and because of the team's loyalty and refusal to quit, Metal: Hellslinger was born. It will always be a high point for me personally and I will be forever grateful we got to make it and for the wonderful team and partnerships that made it happen."

Goldfarb indicated the team will attempt to continue making games "in some form." Game Developer has reached out to Funcom for comment.

That sucks to hear, Metal: Hellsinger was a neat game, and some of those songs paired to the gameplay really put you in a fun flow state.

Makes me think Funcom made some bad investments elsewhere combo'd with Hellsinger not making enough money.

The soundtrack was sick, I just didnt like the rhythm aspect mixed with the shooting and would have preferred a more traditional shooter. I particularly love the Will Ramos song they added.
