Alright now, come on. It isn't for any of us to give some set definition on what 'counts' and what doesn't, all of our opinions are subjective here.

After all, this is a thread on the entire fandom, not just your own preferred niche. You don't have to agree with someone's opinion, but it isn't right to shut out an area for discussion because you think it's wrong or doesn't fall under whatever definition you're using. This is a learning process for everyone, after all.

I have no problem with gaming gaf and most of OT
its the niche threads like anime and ponies (which i dont post in) which contain oversensitive users that have backwards morals so I cant question ponyporn/loli without getting backlash

I can't say a percentage (it's probably low), but from what I can tell, most came about during the whole mascot game period. From that time, I can think of:

DK, Sonic, Crash, Bubsy[lol], Parappa, Fox, Aero (Aero the Acro-Bat), Sparkster (Rocket Knight Adventures)

Afterwards, these characters come to mind: Sly Cooper, Blinx, Stranger (Oddworld: Stranger' Wrath), Daxter, Red Savarin (Solatorobo: Red the Hunter). Excluding games with race options though, since those don't really have a set protag per se.

In the case of KM, their animal features are considered accessories to their character, like a fancy ribbon, and not actual evidence of being part (animal-in-question).


Like, this gives Homura 10% more appeal, but Homura hasn't become a cat suddenly.

it has side characters that are, and one piece has so many that i cant even remember them all (the stuffed animal that you're talking about is his default appearance before transforming)

im also wondering what you are basing this on, since the anime featuring "super kawaii cat girl moe" is either so bad that its not worth watching or non existent. Either way its a cute idea thats just overdone in generic anime and doesn't really effect you in anyway unless you go looking for it.

Well, there obviously are not very many quality animes in general (and even less so featuring prominent anthros unless you talk about animal-side-kick/mascots, which incidentally, I don't like. lol). This is why I lament the fact that there are quality animes starring anthros (especially in thw way I like)! Because there aren't as far as I am concerned! Overdone cutsey fanservice ideas in generic animes affect me insofar that there are mountains of animes I consider "garbage" and therefore can't watch.

Unfortunately we are still in the "heavily-moe" generation of anime. Hopefully we'll move out of that and I can get back to having quality fantasy adventure anime, but who knowssss. I would even settle for a fully cat-girl anime if it was just quality and not fanservice pandering. That at least would be moving in the right direction!

Does not liking the style you like/not considering it as anthro = attacking you? I hope you don't take it that way, but you seem to be feeling like you're under persecution when I'm just explaining how I classify things and my own tastes.

The "definingly anthro" element is not actually the face of a character. It's the overall proportions and posture and possibly personality (bipedal or at least same phsyicality as humans--e.g. using paws as hands, body in a more human shape, animal snout/face adjusted for bipedal/forward-looking posture). When the face is very or fully human, it just crosses over into "just exotic human" territory to me. Not enough of a mix. Just like animals that are "just" animals don't really count to me as anthros either.

Fursuits in odd places are hilarious to me. People who see them never seem to be able to understand what to make of them. I mentioned it earlier in the thread, at the SoCal regionals fighting tournament somebody showed up in a fur suit and the announcers loved it, they started referring to him as "the mascot".

I've a soft spot for "partials" myself, that aren't full suits and usually just the a head design and hands/feet, so you use regular clothing for it and things don't seem all weirdly out of proportion.

EDIT: The above image made me think of it. You don't see a lot of Tauren fursuits at Blizzcon, ironically. The partial up top isn't a tauren per say, and the photo wasn't taken at Blizzcon. There's plenty of Worgen showing up at Blizzcon now, naturally... I talked to some people who were wearing Tauren/Worgen suits, and most of them had no idea what 'furry' was. I didn't have the heart to tell them.
