Good god what happened in the PS3 era
Bluray drive cost $250 and sony forced them to include it in each playstation.

also, nvidia overcharged them for the rsx, and the cell was very expensive to produce early on.

There were reports that the $599 console actually cost $800 produce.

Season 5 Nbc GIF by The Office

from a gamer perspective anyway. Financially for Sony.....not so much

Depends on whether or not you put a tremendous amount of weight in to "first party" titles or not.

Because with the way some people are behaving at the moment, if they were transported back to the PS2 generation then they would be equally as dissapointed.

Funny.

Going by Gaf, it almost seemed like Concord was going to bankrupt Sony.

Just a bump in the road.

Anyway, all the doom and gloom seems like a joke and is basically a certain demographic trying to paint a #SonyToo picture.

Yeah, I was all in on first party during the PS3 years. No doubt about it.

God you're such a fucking boomer

PS5 > PS4 > PS3 > PS2 > PS1

Will be interesting to see how Death Stranding 2 performs, how well Ghost of Yotei does, and if they announce any other 1st party games this fiscal year.

The funniest thing was watching the budget estimates balloon almost daily. $150M. Then $200M. Then $400M. Then some saying $500M. Sadly, we never hit $1B.

Hmmm what's the excuse for all these obscene price increases and online paywall costs now with corporations making record profits of billions every year?

The Cell (and to a lesser extent, Blu-ray drive) happened. Even at $599 they were making like $200 loss for each console sold. Damned near bankrupted the company at the time.

Careful there!

'Cause according to GAF (and the rest of the internet), the likes of Puppeteer, Afrika, Motorstorm, and Resistance made Sony swim in money, and that's really what the red in the chart indicates.

The followups people like Jim Ryan were extravagant buffoons who led to failures like Helldivers 2 and Astro Bot, and actually the blue in the chart indicates life support.

This is clearly why Sony should listen to our resident geniuses and go back to their 'glorious' PS3 days.

Concord's failure is nothing compared to Starfield's failure to become a "quintessential title" and catapult the Xbox series and Game Pass to the promised land by Phillip W. Spencer III. But instead propelled MS to release their games on PS. I don't want to derail the thread, so I won't comment any further on this.

The fiscal year of Concord and they broke profit records.

Maybe MS needs to release 3 Concords per year!

There's something called inflation: game prices are cheaper to buy than ever while they are more expensive to make than ever. So since can't boost units sold they have to raise prices to compensate it.
