G4 TGS special on now

I usually don't mind Morgan, but at these shows, she's just annoying. It's like she lacks confidence and is afraid others will talk over her so she babbles at light speed every time she opens her mouth. Christ, the shrillness makes me wish for a "Morgan mute button."

Same, I usually stick up for the Morgan hate, but sometimes she says dumb shit.

Not that everyone on G4 doesn't at some point.

Adam: "I don't know why they put this game on the bottom screen of the DS as we all know the top screen is capable of better graphics."

Yeah Watching Snake look all old like that doesnt really make me want to play it, as well as still not knowing what the hell is going on, but i have faith when it comes out it will own. Even if it comes close to MGS3 ill be happy.

But the Trailer Still sucked

How the hell can anyone think the MGS4 trailer SUCKED? wtf

Holy shit Phil Harrison is tall.

And Kevin serioiusly has to be the worst host G4 has ever had.

What can i say? It introduced nothing except Solid Snake (If that is solid snake) is an old man. And that it may take place in the Desert. This does not equal a good trailer. MGS3 had a good trailer

EDIT: OH NO I UPSETTED THE SONY/MGS FANBOYS! RUN!!!

Oh, NOW the PS3 controller is a prototype.

I guess all the "that's pretty much what it will look like" stuff from E3 wasn't true. ;]

Um no, it was absolutely nothing like that.

A desert? What? No, it showed that it takes place during a WAR ZONE, which is something completely new to the series. It also teased Snake's age. It ALSO, if you didn't notice, showed the best looking graphics ever.

What a shitty trailer.

(Oh, and I guess I'm a Sony fanboy now. Make up your mind!)

Not one negative thing said about PS3 and they made lots of excuses for Sony...

"Now for the moment you have been waiting an hour for and the reason we all traveled thousands of miles for, PLAYSTATION 3"-G4

"My name is King Kenny Kutaragi, and I approve of this message"

i think the demo was awesome but besides the framerate and snake looking so awesome, it looked like a high poly, high framerate mgs from this gen. the textures are really lacking. i thought that more memory would straighten that out. then again, games early. they could still be using texture artwork from this gen.

It was a bit easier to notice imperfections in MGS4 when watching it in good quality. I'm beginning to think it doesn't look FAR superior to Ghost Recon 3. I probably shouldn't say that though.

Been a prototype since E3. It had the "concept" plackard next to it in the E3 display case as well. I'm pretty sure that's what we're gonna see for final, with a few changes. Though the fact that no one has held it is still rather disturbing, to say the least. Going from the same design two gens in a row to an untested form factor is a bit unnerving. PEACE.

Well, honestly--to say negative things about the PS3 when really nothing -too- hands on extensive has been released is kind of pushing, but then again, so would be praising it.

I think it has to do more with the fact that PS3 is "rumored/suggested/proven" to be more powerful than the 360, and is retaining many PS2 franchises such as Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, Tekken, DMC, Metal Gear Solid all exclusive--- thats what making them say "PS3 is great." or whatever.

Although, Xbox 360 bashing is -totally- unfounded. I would understand maybe not praising it...but denouncing it is just dumb-dumb.

I just generally hate the show, they think making fun of games or making lame jokes is what the fat, thick glasses, video gamer enjoys.

You know, IGN and Gamespot keep the gaming-journalist pretty dry and serious (yes I know, bear with me) and they have a pretty large hit-list. I mean, IGN is valued at the multi-millions and is the most popular gaming-site. And they tend to do a decent job at keeping the uber-hating and praising to minimum at least until review time.

G4 should do the same.

Oh and showing E3 trailers -again- is fuckin lame.

:lol :lol :lol

I dont think its the Best looking graphics ever, leave that to opinion.

OK, maybe not a desert, but its does look simular to one. And as i already stated, it showed his age. Excuse me for having my own point of view, but once again i wasnt amazed by it. And Its not like i dont like MGS, MGS3 was one of my favorite games from this Gen

My God, the PS3 video looks so freaking awesome on my TV. MGS4, Warhawk, and or course Killzone are incredible. Makes me want to see Heavenly Sword in the worst way.

And yes, maybe it's my bias speaking but none of the 360 games look even close according to my TIVO. I didn't see all of the 360 lineup though since it was first. Was Kameo shown, because I didn't see it.

They just closed the show with some positive comments about how Microsoft has lots of x360 games playable and they're doing really well with Japanese gamers.

All the complaints about x360 hate are silly.

Sessler: "I'm going to deliver to the viewers what they've waited an hour for, and what we flew thousands of miles to see. Of course I mean the PlayStation 3!."

*Cue E3 trailers* :lol

Yes, and did you see Phil Harrison pause slyly and say, "there's some new things we plan to add"?

Translation: "Thank you for showing your new controller, Nintendo!" :lol

As has been said before, regardless of anything Harrison or anyone else said at E3, the PS3 controller had the "Conceptual Design" sign next to it in the display at E3 as well, so it's always been a "conceptual design."

Why would excuses even need to be made yet for PS3? Nobody has played it yet, we don't know the price. And everyone who actually attended TGS said either PS2 or PS3 won the show, not XBX360. So I don't see why it's a big surprise at the skeptical approach they're taking - however lame the jokes surrounding it is. Microsoft has failed to put out meaningful shows leading up to X05.

That wasn't a bad Iwata video on the G4 site. Yeah, there were some N-related paranoia moments (Iwata: "can't go into that"... etc.) but he made the philosophy pretty clear. Definitely not Perrin Kaplan-esqure P.R.

I like the fact that Iwata just comes out and says that they want the Rev to be both a primary system for new gamers, and a secondary system to the PS3/X360 gamers.

I can only see this as a good thing. We're pretty much guaranteed that we're going to get alot of different experiences with the Rev compared with the other two. Also, I like that he mentions how the western devs have been very happy with the nunchuk controller, and the ideas that they are coming up with. Where's Dave Perry and Tommy Tallarico now? :D

Exactly. Nobody's played it yet.

Does anyone know when it's going to be playable? Or when they'll actually show some games being played instead of target renders/movies?

So Iwata says that the Rev is underpowered... though it should look "about the same" on a "normal TV"...

sorry Nintendo, in my house, the "Normal TV" is a kick ass HD, so your 480p games are going to suffer :(

Sessler kissing up to the freaking game remo-con... (Nintendo calls the damn thing a game remote control!!!!)... is pitiful. The rev controller could be interesting, I am DYING to play a killer new Mario game on it. But I will have all 3 systems... Nintendo has really religated itself to being a second system. Fine with me, but it will hurt them in the long run.

As for Sony... I just don't get it. They show NOTHING... just 6 months from their supposed launch in Japan, and about 8 weeks from MS shipping. Ah, it's easy to understand. They have nothing to show that is better than what MS is showing, if not FAR worse, as they are further out. You think they would have heald back if they had something killer to show.

Doesn't bother me much though, I will have a PS3 on day one... what bothers me is that G4 is too damn pussy to even call Sony out. HEY PHIL, what's the matter, nothing to show??

you seriously lack imagination.

I can't believe they covered the Capcom booth and didn't talk about Dead Rising at all and they covered the Microsoft booth and didn't talk about Kameo at all. Oh but they did have time to do an Adam Sessler in an Eggplant costume skit. So much for the no skits promise by Matt Keil. :lol Looks like Xplay special is nothing but skits.

They trashed the Xbox 360 again, not as bad as E3, but pretty negative stuff they said. I don't really care, the coverage was pretty poor compared to the online media and nobody really takes their opinions seriously. The highlight of TGS coverage was watching the long video interviews out of Gamespot and Xboxyde for Xbox 360 and getting the PS3 trailers out of Ruliweb and Gametrailers.com. The online footage was comprehensive and in HD as well. The G4 coverage by comparison was very late and was mostly fluff and of course no HD. Even the hyped exclusive Iwata interview was short and uninteresting.

Adam Sessler lecturing Americans on being too conservative in the games they play was pretty pathetic as well. He actually compared the Nintendo controller to going on a date with a girl and wanting her to call you back. WTF? Totally stupid.

There aren't. If you consider that a skit, you don't know what the word means.
Adam Sessler dressing up in an eggplant costume and parading around TGS trying to be funny then blue screening him into the background to fight a giant Octopus monster is what I think we all mean by stupid skits. Here's a pro-tip if you Matt Keil are actually part of the segment on G4 it's a skit. Why else would you suddenly be appearing on the show with scripted dialogue? Also it's dissappointing to see that the X-Play special is more than 50% skits.

They had a 20 minute or so looping reel of (quite impressive) PS3 game trailers playing on a gigantic screen that dominated the Sony booth at the show. Armored Core, Dynasty Warriors, Lair, Gundam, Killzone, Getaway, MGS4, and several others. You haven't seen any of it because Sony wouldn't allow any taping off the screen, and enforced that strictly. They don't want anyone seeing PS3 stuff without it being in HD. Was it playable? No. Did it look better than what was playable at the MS booth across the way? For the most part, yes.

A skit generally has more scripting to it. That was more of a fishing expedition. The point being, feedback on the humor segments is generally positive, so at least one will usually find its way into these specials. If, as you claim, our coverage is inferior and our opinions meaningless, three minutes of more or less coverage certainly isn't going to affect much one way or the other anyway.

As for X-Play, last I checked it's a 22 minute episode containing about 14 minutes of import game reviews and about 8 minutes of skits.

"Was it playable? No. Did it look better than what was playable at the MS booth across the way? For the most part, yes."

and how many of them had the words "concept vision" written across the bottom?

how many of them looked like they were from an actual in game situation?

it's not quite apples and apples at the moment.

g4 isn't for us. it's for various physicists, poets, and diplomats who think x-play's skits are delightfully trenchant satire and have said so in fan letters. or...something.

it's probably not wholesome to spend so much time loathing a television channel i don't watch. it's certainly not wholesome to agree with manabyte.
