So, I took my Prelude in the other day for some minor work to be done on the bumper as it got scuffed a little while back in a minor accident. Since I have "Loss of Use" insurance I'm put in a rental car (a crappy one I might add). The car was left with the body shop in *perfect* working order.
I get the phone call yesterday to pick it up, but to be there by 10 to 6pm as they close at 6. I get there at 5:45, they're gone. Strike 1.
I get there first thing in the morning, and the rental people take off, which I think nothing of as I'm getting my car, right? I sign some papers, get the keys and go to get my baby. Turn the key...nothing...hmmm, I have power, so it's not the battery...try again. *NOTHING*
So I go back in, tell them what's up, they decide I obviously need a boost, which of course doesn't work. Me and the service guy go back and tell them it's not the battery. Which of course means that the service guy boosted it wrong and we should go out (4 of us now) and try again. Still doesn't even turn over or click.
We go back inside (you know, because they left my car outside all night in the bitter, bitter cold), they tell me it has to brought into the service shop and that I have to take the shuttle to work. I laugh and tell them I'm not leaving without a car with a bit of an edge in my voice as I'm now getting a little irritated. They concede and I get the body shop manager's car (which I'm sure the place provides to them as it's brand new).
I also mention that I should not be paying for any service as the car was brought in functioning and while in their care and on their property has now stopped functioning to which they replied "It might just be a strange coincidence, I've seen them happen". Uh huh, not gonna fly with me honey. Strike 2.
I phoned them earlier this afternoon and they informed me that the starter was toast and they had to replace it and it's now ready to be picked up. So not only did they make me late for work, but now I have to leave early to get it. They did not mention any payments having to be made, but I am almost positive they will when I get there. I'm trying to figure out my options here as I don't think I should be paying for this service. If it were in my garage and this happened, then fine I would get it fixed. However, it was in their care, and on their property and I have no idea how the car was treated, if the starter was stripped maliciously or even by accident (I was under the impression that one usually got warning when the starter was going to go, anybody have insight on this?).
So my question is this, if they ask me to pay for the service, do I crack some skulls, or do I bite the bullet and pony up the cash?
