Okay, so - a lot of people view the Internet as a big joke, or at least, impossible to really take seriously. (Of course, one should remember the wisdom: you get out what you put in to something.)

Because of this there are a lot of joke personalities, joke opinions, and whatnot posted online. Talking crap to stir people up or just chime in on whatever is the hip thing to mock, bait, or spread around is a major hobby. However, purely as a point of curiosity and for posterity, a question:

Is there anything you make a big deal about online - or at least in public forums, where you can perform for an audience - which you do not in fact have such a strong opinion of? Or at least, don't really care about one way or the other?

As a corollary to this question, a bonus round:

If you find you don't care about -most- things you make a big deal over online, do you also honestly think the Net is useless for anything real and sincere? Do you justify your behavior online this way? Or do you just consider this how you personally view it, and accept that the online world can have greater intellectual validity for others?

I'm pretty much the same in real life, except I look nothing like my avatar and don't draw smilies to convey emotion.

^w^

Ps. There are some pretty interesting characters on this site though.

yeah, basically the same. always love to talk about sports more than anything. constantly am listening to all kinds of music. take pretty much everything lightly. always whore and reference the same things over and over such as seinfeld and family guy, etc.

I don't like it when people talk about the "good ol' days" both in real life and on the Internet, since there has been bad things/ideas since the beginning of time, and nostalgia isn't a good enough excuse to just forget about those aspects of life/a particualr interest/whatever

i'm the same online and off, except in real life i am a chick. here's my pic:

Sounds like the perfect thread to announce I'm really a 35 year old virgin living in my dad's office room, and am a taste tester for Frito Lay.

I'm the same. It does seem like alot of people are just projecting an image when they're online though. There are far too many smartasses and wannabe comedians for me to believe that all of them are true personalities.

I would say I'm slightly more inhibited online than I am in reality. There's definitely a lot more to my personality requiring some gesticulated comedic instinct (I try to make up for that through photoshops ^_^) that I tend to act out a lot when I'm with my friends, but overall -- the same =) (minus the emotions).

I read your post twice, and I don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

Instead, I'm going to click that pound button above where I'm currently typing this. I've never had a use for it, until now.

I don't think the net is useless for anything "real" or "sincere" but I do know that alot of people view everything as one big joke, so I take everything I find online with a grain of salt. I've found these forums to be particulary good at giving techie and entertainment advice. I also get a good laugh at alot of the threads that go on here, cause alot of the members here have a good sense of humour which comes out in the posts.

So there, I'm basically the same way online as I am in real life, but I don't think that online forums are the be-all and end-all to people's problems and they don't need to be taken 100% seriously all the time.

I'm pretty much the same, except I don't talk too much to strangers. So like, if #ga were a party, I'd talk to the people I knew only, and just observe the other people.

But yeah, ever quirk I have online carries into my daily life.
