ha ha, the old CX4330? I had the CX4320 once. Too slow and the LCD wasn't that great. But it did take a lot of abuse and was cold/water proof, even though it didn't say so in the specs. :lol

Now with the DX6490. Clocking over a thousands photos with that baby.

Samsung Digimax 420. Great pictures, LCD is a bit dark, BATTERIES = DEAD IN AN INSTANT. Still, overall, it's been a great little camera.

Old camera but it has served me well. Last Sony camera I buy though until Sony gets a clue and uses a standard memory format.

Here's mine. It offers incredible image quality, but I have yet to master how to properly utilize all the features:

Sony Cybershot DSC-P100 (mine is actually blue). I got it as a gift when I was in Japan. It hasn't let me down yet.

Would you mind giving me your impressions of this camera? How long have you had it? Would you buy it again? The more info the better. :)

I'm in the market for a digital SLR and will be buying one in the next couple of months. Right now I'm leaning towards the D70, but am also considering the 10D and the 20D.

And to stay on topic, I've got:

Sony DSC-P1:

Sony DSC-U30:

I've had this for about a week: The Samsung Digimax A400

20124.jpg

Spending more time figuring it out than taking pictures, but so far it's been great.
Don't think it's very popular yet - not much out there on the web about this camera.

The bronze one.

I loved these cameras when I saw them. It's too bad that it only has digital zoom (Well, the NA equivalent).

As for cameras, I'd say go for a Canon or Sony. Canons have great image quality.

Everytime a picture has impressed me enough to ask what type of camera the person used, the answer is Canon.

Canon EOS D30
Canon EOS D-Rebel
Sony DSC-P100

And of course, don't forget about the only digital camera guide written by a GAFer...

Sewer-run off captured with the creativity of a digital SLR. The white boulders are actually sandbags! This slow shutter speed would not be possible on a standard digital camera.
creative cameras? digital cameras that lack manual shutter timings? great site!

might as well add something useful though, my camera, Sony DSC-W1, with (gasp) manual shutter timings

WRONG. No, try getting that exposure. It was f/22 and 1/25 seconds ISO 100. It was a bright day. Your magic DSC-W1 can only close down to f/5.6 ISO 100. That means your shutter speed would have been 1/500 sec. You can't do it. If you slow down your shutter, it'll be overexposed.

Edit: I take it back, you could get something close to it if you tried and had money. You could stop down your DSC-W1 to the f/10 by doing full tele. You couldn't do that in real-life, because you wouldn't have physically been able to position yourself, but pretend you can. That brings you to 1/160. Too fast a shutter still. You could buy the Sony VAD-WA and Sony VF30NK to get a neutral density filter. That would take you down 3 f-stops, which gives you 1/40 sec. STILL TOO FAST, but closer... It's still the equivalent of 2/3 stops away. At this point, you might be able to get away with overexposing it in the field and then using photoshop, although you'd end up with essentially 22-bit color instead of 24-bit color. Again, not so simple.

The point still stands though. If that's a photograph you frequently want to take, it's better to get a used D30 for $350 than your DSC-W1. My bet is that you don't take that kind of photo, which is why you didn't know that it was impossible to do on a stock DSC-W1 without extra accessories, which is why the DSC-W1 is still the right camera for your needs, which is why you're happy with it.

silly man. i wouldn't need to take that picture in real life. that's what the interweb is for. i use my camera for drunk picture taking and the occasional skirt shot.

thanks for the photo tips though ;)

Nah that's the whole point. I added the extra line to my edit. Because you never take that kind of shot, the DSC-W1 is the better camera for you.

But that's what I said in the article. The DSLR is good for taking shots like that. Your DSC-W1 is the better camera for what you use it for. It's all about the right tool for the right job.

We're actually in perfect agreement ;) But that's why I push the article. ;) Other guides don't do a good enough job of letting you know the differences. Of course, now I need to add one of those "pearl things" to explain it.

Of course, you're right. If you ever needed a picture of sewer water that looked like a waterfall, you could just borrow it from the Internet.

Thats the same one that my dad has.

Im planning to get one for myself, My dad wont let me take his with me when I go out, He thinks that I will get drunk and lose it (cant disagree, its a fair point). Im not looking for something too expensive, so could someone recommend me something with a reasonable price.

this one is overexposed though (on purpose, i like to get an ethereal quality). however, your point stands, im finding setting up certain shots very difficult with my G5, that's why i wanna get the 20D eventually.

really nice pics 3pheMeraLmiX. Is the Olympus a PnS? (Pns = point and shoot)

I was looking at photos taken on PBASE.com for cameras and a lot of users had no clues and took the most ridiculous photos.
