GAF E3 2006 Disneyland Outing

DavidDayton has mentioned this idea in the past, and it's about time someone actually made a thread about it.

Basically the idea is to do a GAF Disneyland outing around E3 time.

Personally, since E3 closes on Friday at 4:00pm, that would be the best time to hit the park aside from a weekend.

Hitting the park on Saturday or Sunday would give you more time in there, yes, but a Saturday in May is PACKED. 90-120 min wait on Space, 175+ min wait on Splash, etc.

If you goto the park after E3 closes on Friday, you'll avoid most of the crowds and you'll likely get there before the local Friday night fireworks and Fantasmic crowds get there.

Since E3 closes at 4:00 on Friday you can leave directly from the convention center to Anaheim and get to the park with enough time to do some of the big stuff like Space Mountain, Indy, etc. and then see the 50th Anniversary fireworks at 9:25 and Fantasmic at 10:30. The park closes at midnight that night.

Too bad I've already booked my flight. I'm leaving Friday evening at 8pm, or I would seriously consider doing this. I've never been to Disneyland.

If you leave the expo at 4pm there will be hella traffic.

You wouldn't get there till 7pm at the least . Which means all of the locals will be there. Saturdays and Sundays (Sun.being best) are not that bad as long as you get there early and get the correct fastpass.

Just my 2 cents..have fun

I'd go if I still had an AP... more standing/walking is the last thing I'd want to do after E3, though. :lol Have fun if you guys go!

I'd go if I wasn't sure you are all creepy and slightly smelly in real life

Disneyland rules at night, though, get the steak gumbo in a bread bowl and you'll be in heaven. There's a secluded little outdoor patio in the art gallery next to Fantasia lake that makes you forget all your worries

disneyland with manabyte would likely be the most disturbing and depressive outing I could think of. in other words, the trip of a lifetime.

I might be interested. Problem is I'm going with a few non-GAFers, so I'll have to see if they would be interested in Disneyland. Would definitely be cool to meet up with some GAFers at E3 though, and hit a bar or something after.

I dunno about that. Even with bad traffic, you should be able to get to Disneyland from the Convention Center in an hour and half. 3 hour minimum? You could probably get to San Diego in that amount of time.

E3-as-vacation threads usually have some jackass or another saying shit about shit, and yeah it gets a little old, but I would be willing to float the possibility, just put it out there, that anyone who could even consider a road trip to Disneyland on Friday afternoon probably does not need to be at E3 in the first place.

I'd be down for it, but I have to see if I'm still going... the kid I was going with just got into a nasty skiing accident over the weekend... should hopefully be better by May and still wanting to go.

Six Flags Magic Mountain is a much more fun destination ;)

But Disneyland usually does have something for everyone.

Six Flags has the world's worst lines, the most walking (Important to consider after E3) and is way too god damn far away.

I have a theory called the disney theory. For some reason if i havent been to disneyland in a while, i have a huge urge to go. Then when i actually get there, i remember why i never go :) And it goes in an endless circle. I much rather go to magic mountain, even if it is dirty and "gang infested"

This is a bad idea, you do not have enough time.

Better idea is to just do a meetup at a bar or at E3 itself, have a little mini nerdvention.

That's the freaking worst ride on Earth, you actually waited in line for it? Just wow.

Bar idea is cool, last year was fun even with the controversy.

balding. You haven't lived until you stand in line for "Its a small world" with group of 26, 30, and 45 year old men. I felt like such a pedo.

What was the occasion that you met up with them for? A Michael Jordan fan club perhaps?

I'll never go to Disneyland. Looks boring to me. Plus I hate rides.

I hear in tomorrow land at disney you can glimpse the wonders of the future!!! Like you may be able to go and see what that cool new 'nintendo 64' thing is all about.

I make this trip once or twice a week at about the same time of the day as is planned. Traffic can be random. Some days it will takes me less than hour, other days 2 hours. Of course, I know the route now and know which lanes to stay out of and when, so it may take anyone not fimilar with the area even longer.

My recommendation would be taking the Metrolink. There is a subway stop right in front of the convention center that will take you to Union Station and then from there out to Anahiem. I don't know the cost of the train tickets, but it'll be made up in saving on parking ($10).

At the moment, only Pirates of the Caribbean (and thus Blue Bayou), Golden Horseshoe, and Mulholland Madness are planned to be closed.

Can I recommend going on the Monday before E3 instead of Friday? The lines will be a lot shorter (though the park does close sooner). It's not like anything important is happening that day! The weather will be nicer too! And it's Super-Model Bikini Day!!
Also Friday is a blockout day for my season pass.

As a SoCal native who has been to Disneyland more times than any sane person should have gone, I think it's still a lot of fun if you go with the right people. That certainly means no GAF'ers.

Speed pass ftw!

Anyway, do you know how long it takes on a FRIDAY at 4/5pm to get all the way from downtown LA to Disneyland? It's fucking insane.

they were cousins from out of the country, so obviously, no matter how old they are, they want to see Disneyland. It just didn't hit me until Its A Small World. I was like "Holy shit i have to get out of here."

No fireworks or Fantasmic! on a Monday, so it's not worth it.

Hey, Disneyland would be nifty keen.

(Granted, I was planning on possibly going over the weekend just because I'm a Walt Disney fanatic... the problem is that Friday would be a rather lousy idea, what with traffic and all.)

I'm probably going to be staying in the Anaheim area anyway...
