Seems like the one most people go for. Would put 3 Stacks in usual suspects tho but that's a personal bias

Took 3 days to realise Drake wasn't in lol

I just realized I probably never posted a Top 5 GOATs. Somehow I find it really hard to even come up with 5 that I would call the greatest of all-time. Hmm...

#1 André

and

uhm

#2 Jay?

#3 Nas, probably.

Who else? Biggie and Pac unfortunately haven't lived long enough to prove their longevity and body of work. Don't care about oldschool cats like Rakim, Big Daddy Kane & Co. Still could't even tell them apart when I heard their songs.

I can see Kendrick getting #4 in a few years and maybe even higher depending on the next 5-10 years. His last 3 albums are better than even most rappers' full discogs including many of the biggest 90's rappers, honestly.

#5 would go to Logic. He's a legend in the making.

I just realized I'm not a Kendrick fan, maybe it's because he's the rapper who really got me into music which made him an automatic entry into my top five, but going through his Genius and listening to each of his albums makes me realize that he just doesn't click with any of my other favorites lyrically/match up with my general style preferences prose or wordplay wise.

Like I don't even believe he'd be in my top ten if I bumped him down.

I'm having an existential crisis, gonna have to sleep this out and reevaluate in the morning, this is a big shake up.

I'm uncomfortable.
Curious, do you guys here like any 80's Rap like Rakim & Co?
Not at all.

Edit: I mean reevaluate in the afternoon since I'll be falling asleep in the morning

any chance you could upload an imgur album of all of the ones you've made so i can save all of them?
Probably not

Best thing you could do is stay vigilant and "right click + save as" whenever you see something you like. There's also tons of other smilies like the ones I make on the coli for example

Here we go with this American Express presale bullshit AGAIN. I can't believe I really have to apply for another credit card to avoid these lol

Alright, so after a week of listening to this new Kendrick album I have come to the conclusion the 'Damn' is a hip hop classic. A much better album than TPAB. Some great story telling, almost Nas style raps on some of the tracks. There isn't actually a skippable track on this. A solid, solid album and the best album of the year so far.

gah

I thought Cooachella live streamed a lot of the shows on their youtube page?
They stream most of the performances on week 1, never 2. Most of the sets are exactly the same, but some artists switch it up to surprise the audience. Seems like Kendrick didn't change shit lol.

Damn Blank Face LP is FIRE

Definitely my second favorite album last year.

It's one of my favorite eras. Aside from the big three, I tend to love the classic New School era due to how fun and simple the music is. Definitely dated at times, but still classic.

Plus I'll never get tired of the classic Run DMC sound employed by them and guys like Marley Marl.

Juice Crew all day every day.

Marley Marl
Kool G Rap
Big Daddy Kane
MC Shan

The finest hip-hop of the 80's and gave birth to that Queensbridge sound that got popular with Nas & Mobb Deep.

Absolutely incredible hip-hop.

Albums to check:

Marley Marl - In Control Vol 1
Kool G Rap - Road to the Riches, Wanted Dead or Alive
Big Daddy Kane - Long Live The Kane, Its A Big Daddy Thing
Masta Ace - Take A Look Around
Bizmarkie - The Biz Never Sleeps
MC Shan - Born to be Wild
Roxanne Shante - Bad Sister (Kool G Rap & Kane wrote her lyrics)

Also during the Bronx v QB beef, KRS One always went after MC Shan. Always left Kane & G Rap alone as he knew they could slay him on the mic.

Rakim was a beast though.

Great list, but don't forget The Adventures of Slick Rick.

Hm, I see. I gave some of those a listen a while ago and can appreciate the historical value, but personally I just don't like the sound and (goofy) flows of that era, especially stuff like Run DMC, Public Enemy, or Beastie Boys. Actually, I also don't like De La and Tribe's earlier albums when they still had that flowery Jazz-y 80's production. The Golden Era starts around Illmatic for me.

You don't fuck with jazzy shit like Diggable Planets, Tribe, Pharcyde, Camp Lo, Main Source, The Nonce, or Souls of Mischief breh?
Okay, that sounded wrong. I love smooth, jazzy shit, but not that early De La kind, know what I mean?

EDIT: Not saying I hate it. It's lighthearted fun, but I just don't like it as much as the 90's sound.

Love Tribe post-Midnight Marauders and De La post-Buhloone Mindstate the most. Pharcyde's Labcabincalifornia is one of my faves (never heard the first album, though). The Diggable Planets album that Andrew once recced was nice too. The rest I don't really know.
