It's more 80s-esque rock with prominent synth elements. The way I'm describing it sounds really shitty, but it's quite entertaining and fun to listen to. I'm not much of a metal fan, so this is the first time I'm listening to them, but I'm liking this direction quite a bit.

I've never listened to Ulver past their Metal phase, so weird how they changed.

I thought it sounded too much like a Depeche Mode cover band. I like the album but it feels a bit derivative imo. kinda crazy how that band goes from straight up black metal to synth pop tho. that thread for their new album got me to check out some of their old stuff and they've changed quite a bit.

Just listened to this for the first time. Shit is hard. Reminds me of Schoolboy Q's darker shit fused with Ka style.

Is it wrong that I think that Channel Orange is better than Blonde?

Maybe it's just my nostalgia talking. Channel Orange was on repeat during the summer of that year.

No this is actually a really sane opinion. It's been varying degrees backwards for Frank ever since the mixtape.

All Channel Orange was for me, is the album that has Bad Religion, Pink Matter, and Golden Girl on it.
Love those songs and I still play them regularly, but Blonde, as a cohesive piece of work and song to song it has to be one of my favorite albums ever.
Take out Good Guy, Andre, and that other 1 minute half song that all make the album feel jumbled up and it would be even better.

I agree, although it's not like he's gone really, really backwards; Blonde is a great album.

Future, to me, is a hit-or-miss artist.

When he hits, like with "March Madness", "Codeine Crazy", "Razzle Dazzle", "Mask Off", or even "Coming Out Strong", he hits hard. "March Madness" is undeniably a classic song of this era, and the other songs I mentioned are great enough that they still retain what makes them exciting months after I first listened to them.

When he misses, like on every other song in his discography, he's just meh. I'm sure the songs he has are songs I'd dance to if I were drunk enough, but there's nothing really memorable about them. They fall into that same slickly-produced, "money, women, and drugs" trap that's just saturated popular hip-hop.

That's not to say I listen to Future for the lyrics, but when the production backing your vocals isn't memorable to sustain interest or the hooks aren't catchy enough, it exposes the generic nature to your song material. All in all, I don't think Future's going to be remembered as a legend. He doesn't have the innovation, the creative vision, or the willingness to change things up that I think defines a legend. He's good at what he does, but I think people like Clipse or Pusha T or Danny Brown or ScHoolboy Q do the whole "drugs, women, and money" better and more consistently produce great songs.

This is the conclusion I've came to as well. I won't deny it. I have a playlist of Future songs (at least 2-4) from each album/mixtape because he can't hold my attention for the entire thing. Just grab the singles and gems and be on with my day.

Andrew I've finished Chapter 2 but nothing really stood out to me. Da Unbreakables on the other hand has been a bit more memorable so far probably due to the production and hooks.

edit: Yeah I'm liking these songs a lot more. Bin Laden *whew*

Really? He sounds rejuvenated on here to me. He actually switched his flow up on a few tracks but kept the content grimey with Daringer sounding as good as ever. I was fearing the Shady co-sign would water Griselda down but if this is what we can expect...shit..we're good.

Just wasn't feeling the production thought it was wack.

Seems like I'm not the only one who opened their third eye. I can still sense him too. When I scrolled down it felt like someone was dancing in front of me. Can't explain it, tbh... it felt very strange.
