Depending on how long you wake up after a wet dream, you may not even realize you had one. The semen will pretty quickly decoagulate and get absorbed by your underwear/sheets. If your underwear is dry by the time you wake up or you get right into the shower, you may not put two and two together. I think waking up in the middle of ejaculation like OP is atypical.

To me, wet dreams will only come when you are in a complete state of utopia. Not worrying about the world around you or caring about critical issues.

I think our minds get too filled or we become hard headed and that takes control of our mind giving back to us what we want.

My experience was when I was around 16 or so. I didn't think about anything. It was all free from the world around me. Sadly, we put things in our minds, that can come from thoughts or stress; I believe these things prevent us from experiencing such things.
