GAF My Dog is Lost.

One of my dachshunds got out a few days ago.

My wife has been really upset since it happened, my daughter keeps talking about him, and then correcting herself with, "Oh, wait... he's lost."

Ever since he got out, we have walked every road in out neighborhood calling his name.

He's not the smartest dog, one of the goofy, happy-go-lucky types, I know he couldn't find his way back after leaving the door.

I think someone has my dog.

I don't know who, I don't know where, but someone has him...

I only have puppy photos of him digital, which is strange since he is 6 years old now. We had to scan some printed photos to make some fliers that we finally got to put up today.

Some more info:
He had just got a bath, so he had no collar on. He dug a hole to the neighbors yard and got out from there. We checked every road in a 2 mile radius, no sign of the worst.... also no sign of him...

Has anyone ever had a lost dog, that later got found? My family is sad right now, especially our female dachshund... At the very least I would love to hear some advice and hopefully a success story or two...

Edit:

Puppy photo(I have 3 on my pc, this is one...)

Edit 2:

No he was not chipped. We called local shelters and vets to see if any dog matching his description was brought in. We also put up fliers today.

I am thinking about getting business(lost dog) cards made and putting them on every door in out neighborhood.

i'm guessing you didn't give it a smart collar, that sucks. hope it's not too cold over there.

No we did not, no chip or anything either, unfortunately. His collar has our address and info, but like I said he didn't have it on, sadly.

Have you been calling local shelters?

Yes, we called all shelters withing 20 miles, and all nearby vets in case someone tried to see if he had a chip.

Since you didn't mention it, I assume you didn't get him chipped? With those things you also have to register your information online.

Best piece of advice is go around to local vets and ask if anyone has brought in a dog fitting the description. Next go to your local animal shelter if you have one and ask around/put flyers up in their lost and found area. Outside of that Good Luck and keep an eye out.

Don't give up hope. Put up posts on local websites like Craigslist and the classifieds. Someone might have found him and assumes he's abandoned. Also check those sites to see if someone has posted about finding him. Keep asking around and putting flyers up. Leave something that smells like him (his bed, for example) outside where it would draw him of he's nearby.

I'm so sorry, and I hope you find him. I have a doxie myself.

Put up lots of posters and use social media, even without a picture just get people to know that there's a missing dachshund around can help.

We have put up fliers in our neighborhood and the closest ones around us, my wife has also made a post on facebook. I think it was for the Houston area lost dogs page. (Guess its okay to say that.).

We lost a dog and found him three days later.

My dad dropped some clothing around our farm, the dog showed up the same day.

Maybe thats something you can try? Drop clothing at walking spots or something.

I really hope you find him! Please keep us updated :)

This is something that a few people have recommended us, along with take out other dachshund on the searches. We will definitely try this tomorrow!

Wishing you and your family the best. My lab always has his collar on for possible instances like this. Though not sure he could possibly get away because he has had a serve case of separation anxiety since he was a pup.

I hope that whoever has found him has the festive spirit to try to return him to his home for christmas via the dog shelter. Dachshunds are wonderful dogs, hopefully getting one next year =^_^= Best thing to do is go door to door locally with fliers--maybe someone will have seen their neighbour with a dachshund. Their adorableness is a pro and a con, sadly. Stay optimistic!

He's one of the friendliest dogs that I have ever seen. All of my daughters cousins, including(all of them) the ones who are afraid of dogs love him.

I am really thinking more and more to make business(lost dog) cards and putting them on every door that I see.

It really sucks hearing my daughter get excited to go down and play with her dogs in the morning, and then ask...

"Where is Hachi?"

"Oh yea, he's lost."

"Lets go find him."

No one asked but our other dachshund is named Chanclas.

Your poor daughter :(

Business cards are a good idea. I think if he has been taken in then maybe it will have been within a couple of roads distance (assumption based oh their tiny little legs, haha)
