I saw the gortex thread, so i thought I'd make one for a car.

So I am thinking about getting a new car. Price range isn't really set, but I'd like to keep it under $20k.

Currently on my list of possible options are:

Mazda3 5door

Mazda6 5door

VW Jetta TDI

Volvo S40 (dreaming here)

Volvo V50 (dreaming again...)

Anything else I should be looking at?

I love the look of the S40/V50 from the outside, but the inside looks like a base model Ford Focus. The mazda6 is really cool IMO.

I woulda said the Jetta, but not the new models ...but otherwise the Mazda3 is a nice looking decent all around car far as i know (plus i like hatchabcks ) and the 6 is pretty sweet too.

but i would REALLY say a 2004 Jetta...those 2005 are ugly imo

The S40 looks nice. Especially when you start adding accessories. I plan on getting one eventually.

sure, and Volvo's are old people cars, Mazda's are kids cars...guess you need to buy a BIG truck Element, real men drive SUVs and Trucks ...dont be a girl !

Nothing beats the 3 right now... it's affordable, sporty, and has great fit-and-finish.
That said, if I were shopping for a car, I'd probably test-drive: Mitsu Lancer, (new) Civic, Civic SI, Mazda3, Scion tC (if you're in the states), Mini, and Impreza.

If you're considering the 3, then you might wanna know that a turbo-charged MazdaSpeed version is in the works as well...

Just got one myself. Very very happy with it.

Though - I was also looking at the Mazda3. Found a good deal on the RSX though. I'd say that both are good choices.

Don't buy a Jetta.. seriously, and not just because it is considered a gay symbol. They're all riddled with mechanical and electrical gremlins, and apparently the new ones are even worse than the old ones.

Right now, it is between the Mazda 3 and the Honda Civic. Take your pick - I can't honestly favor one over the other.
