I have been listening to the latest Chelsea Wolfe record and I truly love the eerie/spooky/creepy atmosphere.

I was always a sucker for eerie music but could never find much that appealed to me because a lot of creepy stuff often skews into the "sick and twisted" stereotype that bores me.

I don't want the musical version of "Saw", I want a good eerie ghost story.

So Gaf, please recommend good spooky music.

Edit: Thanks for the replies so far. For future recommendations: I'd rather prefer original music over soundtracks, though. If you have some outstanding OSTs feel free to post, but I would be much happier to find some new original music.

Some examples of what I mean:

LUSTMORD is probably the creepiest stuff I've ever heard. Very, VERY, dark ambient. Warning: do not listen to it if you are depressed in the slightest.

Most of the stuff from The Residents is creepy, weird and still relevant today.

Gingerbread man Theme song from one of their CD-Rom games.

Hello Skinny

1 minute movies

My window

Burn my bones This one would be perfect for a Silent Hill game.

Their music can vary from melodic song with weird sounds & arrangements to creepy and fucked up experimentations, depends of the album / project. The visuals are often tied to the songs and were thought as a whole.

Also : Coil

A lot of the Skinny Puppy discography. I'll pimp SP as much as I can for as long as I live.

Also I'll throw Velvet Acid Christ's 'Phucking Phreak' in there just because:

I probably didn't pick the best examples, the ones I picked are more traditionally structured whereas it seemed you wanted more atmospheric tracks but people already gave a shout out to Silent Hill 2s OST and Goblin so...

Anything from The Caretaker really. It sounds like music from out of a horrormovie. Creepy, eerie icecreamtruck music. I would link but I'm on my iPhone atm. I just sneezed so fucking hard

Anyone mentioned Siren soundtracks?

Easy to find (almost no release outside of Japan) but if that is not a hightmare fuel, I don't know what is.

Astonishing production too, technical guys who dis the recordings for all 3 games are geniuses.

Throbbing Gristle - Hamburger Lady

Doesn't get more unnerving for me.

Seconding these.

Skinny Puppy are one of the very very few EBM bands that don't suck. If you like SP you might like early GGFH.

Coil is a little fucked up. I like it.
One of the best bands ever. Sadly, both of the main guys behind Coil are dead :(
Cold Dream of An Earth Star

Here's some more stuff to check out.
