If you're going to spend more than $100, then get the best 2.1 PC speakers out there for $150 overall (as opposed to $130ish for those logitechs):

Fuck, I wanted to spend less than 100, and look what you've made me do.

As for a dedicated sound card, I have the Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS Platinum, so I think I'm good in that area.

I'm still using some $40 Altec Lansing 2.1s that are like 6 years old now. For 2.1s, it is foolish to spend more than $50.

I'm not really familiar with lower end sound cards.

I have an Audigy 2 ZS which runs for $75 and I use it for my Klipsch 5.1 Ultras which are slightly better sounding than the 2.1s (+3 channels aside, the sub is much better).

I've heard many people saying that the sound card is very important with these speakers.

I could spring for a 75 dollar soundcard I suppose. Is there anything cheaper that is as powerful and good, but doesn't support 5.1? It'll be a long time before I have room for more than a 2.1 system.

Audigy 2 ZS supports anything from 2.0 to 7.1

But if anyone recommends a cheaper sound card, take their advice I guess. Just keep in mind these speakers are really senstive because the audio reproduction is so accurate. Getting a subpar sound card will make a difference.

I tried hooking my speakers up to motherboard audio once. It was really ugly.
