Fairly challenging, from what I've been told. 4 puzzles of increasing difficulty.

I made this little one to get going. I was surprised at how quickly everything piled up and became a total clusterfuck when I started; it's so easy to throw everything in there! I manged to let myself tone it down a bit, though.

Might be easier to post my Community Workshop page, since I've been pumping out a new map every time I get a good inspiration for one. I generally start out trying to see what weird Rube Goldberg devices I can build with the supplied tools, and then see how I can adapt what I end up with into an actual puzzle chamber.

My Community Workshop

I'm getting better as I learn, and it shows. But it might be kinda fun to start with 1-1 and see the way I mess around and figure out how to build things, I guess. Otherwise, 1-4 is where they start really feeling like actual decently-put-together puzzles.

If you only want to try a couple, please try:

2-3: Tunnel Snake Pools
600x337.resizedimage

AND

2-2: Accident Storage
600x337.resizedimage

Please try one or a few or all of them! I'd love to hear feedback, new tricks, and maybe get a good rating or two.

I made another map. I tried a lot of different things with this one:

Glass Ceiling: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=71194849

Terribly misleading image. :(

Solved it, but it took a while. You can solve it without using either the blue gel or the water. And you can also bring the excursion tunnel into the final room, but it doesn't help accomplish anything.

Pretty good puzzle. Only complaint is that it's pretty much impossible to tell what a button is going to do until you press it. Luckily most of them were intuitive. Also, you can get stuck or screw up somewhere, like accidentally destroy your cube, and you'll have to restart. All minor complaints really, it's a pretty good, if messy, puzzle.

Image is intentional, of course. I want people to not really know what they're getting into.

I meant to add an additional light fixture to prevent being able to place a portal on the ground there. I've added it in now, so blue gel should be required again. Water wasn't really meant to be part of the puzzle, just there to get rid of anything annoying. I was worried that it might confuse people, so I may take that out.

The companion cube will respawn up at the top, but the first reflective cube doesn't have a respawner. I wasn't sure where to add it without breaking the profile of map and I figured the odds of someone destroying it were small enough that a restart wouldn't be a big deal.

Thanks for playing!

I think that's kinda the point.

I'm aware.

2-2: Accident Storage

Nice and simple. And easy. Only thing is you can snatch a ball from the first room and get back to the main room before the door closes, skipping that little staircase part.

Only complaint is that it's too easy. Otherwise it's pretty good.

Not sure if I'm playing the updated version or not, but here's the video of how I skipped the gel: http://youtu.be/t_GeHDgjf4c

At least, that's where I'm assuming gel is supposed to be required.

Oooh. I thought something like that would be possible. I literally said to myself, "if they can do it, they can have it." But I didn't realize it would be that easy. I've made a few changes to the area and added some flourishes to try and draw the player's attention to the area.

While I was doing a quick playtest of the area, I remembered why I probably wanted the water in there: I accidentally covered the cube in blue gel, which made things really fun.

Thanks for running through it! I tried pretty hard to make things fair on the player (I hated having to put the death lasers in because I hate death in Portal). It's always nice to have another mind putting the map through its paces.

Ha! Last night I was working on a similar concept:

Under the Sea: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=71191322

[IMG]http://i.imgur.com/0gCY0.jpg

The idea was to put all the puzzles in a big and complex environment you could observe freely from above, to make sense of how the web of buttons and switches is supposed to work. Some feedback (and reports of possible exploits) would be very appreciated!

Also, the map features a Companion Cube hidden somewhere.

KScorp

Pretty good! Didn't find anything you could really exploit. (In the initial drop to below the glass, you can put a portal through the crack between the fizzler and the glass. I don't think you can exploit anything with that though.)

Was fun. Companion cube wasn't very hidden though.

New map!

Painters' Pit: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=71438353

Featuring no portalable surfaces!

If you manage to paint tiles white higher than 3 tiles above the ground, or a ceiling tile, that's unintended. Please tell me if you're able to do so. (From all my testing, I was only able to paint up to 1 tile above the ground with white paint.)

As for difficulty, I'm not sure. I don't expect it to be too difficult. Feedback always appreciated.

Just finished my third chamber, this one is way more straight forward than my previous ones and only took like 10 minutes to create. As for difficulty I would say it's between easy and medium.

This one took me some time to get the timing to a point where I felt it was imposing but not restricting. The chamber shouldn't take longer than a minute to complete, but figuring out its tricks should pad several minutes onto it.

I made this chamber with the focus on time trials rather than logic although there should be some brief moments of headscratching. Would love to know your times on it. I am curious if anyone can complete it in less than 30 seconds (I haven't gotten it yet, but I haven't really tried... I believe its doable assuming the run is flawless and
you are incredibly lucky :p
)

Comments and Critiques welcome! (here or on steam)

Thanks man, glad you had fun with it.
I was aware of being able to put a portal through there, but I couldn't find a way to exploit it (you can only use it to go down, after all).

Companion cube wasn't very hidden though.
Yeah, I guess the second revision will add something optional to uncover it.

Making this map came as a lightning bolt idea. Definitely using the map editor in ways that are not normally apparent. Automatic-Timed Hazards FTW! It's more of a proof of concept but it's a damn good concept lol.

With this platformer style gameplay might be possible lol.

Neat concept but seems buggy. A few times the first portable surface would never flip long enough to support a portal, and some wouldn't flip at all.

After figuring it out another run took me about a minute. Nice and easy.

Just finished my first map. I'm amazed at how easy it is to adjust the tone and atmosphere of the environment, even with the small amount of tools given.

I ended up just making cool spaces, and then a puzzle started to form around them. I think with future maps I would aim to approach it the other way around, but as a learning process it was great fun.

I would appreciate feedback if you play it. As it's my first one I want to make it as good as possible, even if it means redesigning chunks.

Still playing, but after you go through the first tall fizzler, you can shoot a portal to the ceiling panel (there's a very small gap between the fizzler and the wall), which allows you to bring blue gel back to the first room with the exit. This probably allows you to break the level.

e: oh soon after I disabled the fizzler anyway
I covered the area in front of the funnel with red gel, put one portal in the wall next to the funnel and another on the angled wall up top and catapulted myself to the cube+button up top. Is that how you are supposed to do it and some areas are just redundant?

This is what I did. Not sure how this made other stuff redundant though unless I missed them entirely!

Enjoyed the map. Short/sweet - but I think that worked in its favour.
Nice puzzle :)

Yeah, the method to get the automatic stuff is a bit unorthodox. Was able to streamline it better on a later map.

Firstly, thanks for recording the play through, really interesting to watch and incredibly helpful.

I'm love that I missed that short cut. I tested the level for ages until I thought I had blocked like that, and then go and miss the simplest one. Brilliant.

Edit; I've updated the map so this solution is no longer valid (and hopefully fixed the 'bug' Syllogism found too). I mulled over whether to leave it in or not, but i'm hoping for new players the intended solution would make for a more satisfactory play-through than just using the floor.

It was good! I was a bit confused about the turrets and such but then I realized they're only for decoration, I thought they were part of the puzzle.

Both were pretty good. On the second map though it's possible to get the sphere stuck in an unintended room (such as one of the rooms BEHIND the fizzler the sphere is supposed to deactivate) and then you have to fiddle with the first excursion tunnel to destroy the sphere by pushing it into a fizzler just to try again. Just attach a button to the sphere dispenser so that you can start over whenever you want and the problem is fixed.

Shiiit double post.

Hot off the presses is King Dome, a multi-room funhouse with a giant suspended dome in the middle. Focus is more on figuring out how the rooms connect, but I did try to telegraph the proper sequence when you first enter the room.

Started a wee collection/series I hope to add to:
The Vault

So far two maps:
Employees Only
A Polite Reception

Its got a very simple story - breaking and entering. So am hoping to make the atmosphere quite dingy. Not like walking through the front door if that makes sense.

Still - its just for me to practice on. Hope people enjoy them if they have a go :)

So this is probably going to be my last chamber for a while (Diablo 3 is going to own my life)

I have heard that there might be issues with solving the puzzle. Looking for more feedback. Might be a revision coming tonight. Thanks! Really liking a lot of the chambers im seeing from you guys as well as just ingeneral.

That is the problem .... i'm having so much fun that I still didn't finished the main game =x

So i'm a little afraid of spoiling myself some of the features ...

But I do have some of the ideas with what I know now =3

Mechanics are not a spoiler in any way. It's not a spoiler to know there are flip panels.

There are no story spoilers.

[Cross-post from Gaming] People apparently really like this level I made even though I haven't done any promotion for it, so I thought I'd share it here. My favorite comment about it so far:

"This is the longest and largest custom map I've played. None of the challenges were too taxing but they were all logical and interesting. What impressed me most is how the player's path twists through the space so you keep getting close to the exit (or entrance) and then moving away again."

I've had a few people beat it, so it is definitely winnable. Did you do everything in the room?
Did you raise the stairs?
That makes up for the mandatory portal placement.

I won this time! I think you changed some things, but I definitely finished it this time. Not sure what I wasn't doing previously. Ah well.

HP, Wet Hot American Summer can be beaten literally as soon as you enter the room. Not sure if intentional or not. Playing some more maps now.

Just did this one. I liked it, although once you get rid of the turrets the challenge is gone. Is there a way to deploy them when the player hits one of the buttons? That would pad out the difficulty some. Also, it's possible to bypass part of the puzzle by moving boxes you've already put down, but I don't think it hurts the test chamber for that to be possible.

EDIT: Sorry about the triple post; I wasn't really paying attention. Mea culpa. :/
