Gah! Graphic card silliness

Well my X800 arrived late yesterday and I never got a chance to install the damn thing to play Doom3... thats when the questions started in my head....

"Is the X800pro really that much of a superior card to the 6800gt?"

I know my current rig isn't that much of a powerhouse now but i will be upgrading in the near future. Do you guys think that getting the x800Pro was a better choice than the 6800gt?

I have the 6800gt and it's fucking smooth! I run it in ultra speeds without any problems.

Eh. They each have their own quirks, but they are both ridiculous cards. Are you going to be playing HL2? Supposedly ATI cards will do better with it

It's too early to tell. I got a BFG 6800GT OC for pretty cheap (relatively) and am quite happy with it. Early reports claim nvidia will do better with the Doom engine and ATI will do better with the HL2 engine... but in the long run, who the hell knows.

Based on the benchmarks I've read, I've gotta go with the 6800GT (and I did). They are both fast, but the 6800 is better in Doom3. Both cards are expected to push HL2 very well. Also the 6800 was cheaper.

Maybe, just maybe, you chould return the X8, chill a bit, and then upgrade the whole shebang later for PCIExpress and set yourself up for nvidia's SLI.
