1. go to setting / apps then hit the all button at the top
2. scroll down to google services framework and then press it to open
3. hit the clear data button
4. go to settings / about phone / system updates
5. hit the check now button
6. you should get the 4.0.4 update
7. hit install and enjoy
Always seems to happen after a session in Chrome.
GSM Users rejoice. Found a new yay to force down the OTA onto your phone
May have to redo steps 3-5 a number of times (for what its worth, worked on my second go)
Downloading 4.0.4 OTA now![]()
This only really works if the update has been pushed to your device, but for some reason the phone hasn't told you there is an update.
I did this a few times and nothing happened. Hell, I think it actually killed push notifications on some of my apps, notably twitter.
Anyone else on GAF with a GSM model has received the update?
How does this work? Do they push them out to specific serials or something? Mine was one of the first batches from Handtec! I should be the first to get it.
(didn't work, tried 6-7 times)
Anybody have a current contract that they ordered their upgrade phone on Amazon? I'm on Verizon but I have unlimited data grandfathered, but I'm afraid if I upgrade my phone through Amazon I will lose my unlimited data. Anybody know for sure?
This phone is 99 bucks and I figured that was a pretty good deal.
I posted this in the Galaxy thread, but I don't know how fast it moves so I'll ask here:

Amazon Wireless said:Im already paying for a plan with my carrier. Why am I asked to choose another plan during the ordering process? Am I going to be charged more?
When you upgrade an individual line of service, you'll choose a new plan based on the carriers current plan offerings. The new plan will replace your existing plan; any differences in the plan price will be reflected on your monthly bill from the carrier.

So someone told me to call this to force OTA:
*#*#2432546#*#*
I get a 'checkin succeeded message' but no update. Anyone want to try it (GSM)?
it does the same thing as the "check now" button on the updates page.
If I leave my phone idle on wifi for a while, it loses Internet connectivity, while still being on my network . I then have to turn wifi off and on to get Internet connection back. None of the other ~4 devices on my network experience this.
This is on the leaked 4.0.4 VZW build, rooted. Any insight?

According to an increasingly vocal swath of members at xda-developers (and confirmed by a listing on Google's own Support page), there are mysterious signal issues now troubling the device. For many users, there's an inexplicable loss of signal -- a complete inability to make or receive calls and text messages -- after applying the v4.0.4 update, though it's beginning to look like Sleep is the issue.
Galaxy Nexus is such a cluster fuck. What a shame.
It fucking is. I want Google to move away from Samsung spare parts leftovers. Give Sony a chance at the Nexus, or design your own hardware.
yep, Sony old parts in 'amazing' design will be much better...
If Google is going to bend over and take it, at least the Sony stuff is nicer than Samsung.

only in the eyes of people who want something different for the sake of being different.
At least Sony tries.
only on the outside. Samsung tries on the inside.
Not on the Nexus S they didn't.
Oh for fucks sake !

Looks like this OTA might get pulled. I have a feeling we won't see it hit the GSM model any time soon.
They're talking about network signal though, not wifi.Happens to me too. There's a 5-page thread on XDA about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1555733
Do you happen to know how much this affects battery? You could set wifi to 'Always on' so it doesn't disconnect in idle/sleep mode.
(wifi settings, menu button, advanced)

It will increase battery life by a large margin if you let wifi stay on.They're talking about network signal though, not wifi.

Here's the situation: (reposting here to get a better idea of how nexus users enjoy the device for browsing)
Wife broke her back (all is well now though, been a week, she's at home) which means my computer usage has been all but taken away. In addition, I have the go-ahead to get a business line so I can work out of my home while watching over her for the most part. Have a G2X now, and my go-to couch browsing device has been my Transformer Prime. However, wife is basically the owner of the Prime now.
I got used to a speedy tablet, though I found it was a bit too large most of the time, especially when it comes to doing something like trying to post on GAF. I actually prefer typing on my G2X over it but G2X is too small for browsing. Though the business will cover the monthly cell bill, I will need to pay for the phone myself.
I am drooling over the Note super hard, as it seems to fulfill all of the functions I'm talking about here. However, I am really really apprehensive about going with AT&T between the rates and really crappy data plans. Additionally, Galaxy Nexus is 80 friggin bucks right now on Amazon. I'd imagine if I went with this route, I'd just have the Nexus hold me over until ASUS releases the rumored Nexus Pad at which point I'd go back to my two-touch-device system.
So, what say you GAF? Note and crap AT&T or not-as-awesome Galaxy Nexus and much better Verizon? Is there another awesome really big phone that I'm overlooking?
tl;dr: Got used to Transformer Prime, don't have it anymore. Want something smaller, but 4" G2X doesn't cut it. Go with Note, or go with Nexus and hold off for Nexus Tablet?
Do you happen to know how much this affects battery?
Some big news for those into the custom ROM scene, fully customize able nav bar in the latest AOKP:
http://m.engadget.com/default/artic...t-navigation-bar/&category=classic&postPage=1
...and I think this will be the last smartphone I get for a while. While I enjoy the experience, using the aosp built custom roms, the nexus platform has become an unmitigated disaster. That's not to speak of the shitastically supported ICS, the greatest Android OS no one knows about.
Seems like you can't fully win with any phone, can you?
*sigh
I'm kinda hoping WP takes off by the time I want a new phone.
