Game Boy Micro <3 Thread

I succumbed to the GB Micro love this month as well.

Most of you are already owners or like me, have been intrigued recently by this little system.

I thought I would give a mini-review on my thoughts on it to help some of you who might be on the fence and what a current day review of this thing.

First of all, I've been through all the portables starting with the original monochrome GB. I've had just about everyone of them except for the GBA SP versions and the GBM. I was completly uninterested by the GBM when it came out and had I been on GAF (if there would have been a GAF back then) I would have bashed this little system.

At the time of the GBM launch, I think most folks were thinking of moving ahead to newer systems and newer games, rather than the allure of playing GBA games on a minature system with a tiny screen. I think the system was just way ahead of it's time.

We seem to have reached a time in gaming currently where many folks enjoy sitting back to "simpler" times and less fussy games as evidenced by the popularity of XBOX Live Arcade and the like. As much as I like our current gen stuff, it's nice to sit back to something more simple and basic.

That's where the GBM takes the spot light. You can take it anywhere, fit it anywhere and it's such a chic system with so much charm. When I finally got my system in the mail, I was taken back by just how TINY the whole thing is. Every other tech gadget we have today is bigger than this thing. The control pad and buttons all feel GREAT and the screen does great justice to most of the GBA library. The only draw back is that the screen is so small, it makes it difficult to read some text in certain text heavy games. The speakers on this little guy are also lacking even in an empty room. The only other draw back is no sleep function which I have become spoiled by the DS/PSP.

Overall, I am very happy to own one now and if you are the least bit interested I would recommend you pick one up before they become to scarce to be found in good condition.

I finally picked up one of these things, and FFVI is awesome on it. I just hate the dpad, though, because I always screw up the blitz techniques. Anyway, it set me back about $26 dollars with no charger. It has some power, at least.

Do live in the states? If so radio shack sells (the last time I checked) a multi tip charger for the car with ds lite, gba sp, gb micro, and I believe PSP. If you know how to convert this you could make it into a USB charger.

So is anyone on these forums presently selling one of these, by any luck?

Got a cheap used Micro locally, quite dirty under the plate and the silver is starting to wear off from the buttons, but the plate itself is scratch-free and I'm very very pleased with the feeling of unit. I hope it will get me to play my GBA games more again (the SP was just too big to carry around).

I too got mine at a Walmart sale, it was a bit more then 50$ but still a good deal. I find it hard to play the MMZ games due to the shoulder buttons so I mainly play RPG's on it.

How do you guys take pictures of your Micro showing off the screen so well? I've tried, but I can never get a clear shot.

I was playing mine last night, and the red lights in the start/select buttons would flash very seldom. At first I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, then I kept noticing. I had it on a full charge.

Has this happened to anyone else? Could it mean the battery is dieing?

Anyone know where I can get a micro here in Australia? Or anyone that would ship to Australia?

That imported games shop in Sydney Chinatown usually has a couple for some insanely expensive price, but I got mine for around $50 from some Myer clearance table.

That was a few years ago though, but it's still worth checking the games section of your big department stores for old stock.

I finally took this game down, after 20 odd years. Feels like a major gaming milestone.

Haha nice, I also managed the same feat on a GB Micro not that long ago :) Great game, and insanely hard! Surprisingly suitable as a handheld title too.

Well, it's about time I added my Micro Love to this thread too.

Awesome pics, radiantdreamer! :O I can't wait to be reunited with my micro when I'm going back home over the Easter break. Somehow I convinced myself I wouldn't be using it while at university, but this thread has proved me wrong on a daily basis :P

What? What collection is this that includes SMB3?

Edit: Read your blog and realized its an emulator. :(

On a different note famitsu named GB micro as the lightest console ever.

I ordered a few flat color stickers for faceplates, to use on my camo/flower faceplates. Hopefully they will cover the bad design enough, and still have a pristine clear faceplate.

Oh shit FFIV Micro! Congratz! Post pix soon!! :D :D

All this thread does is make me regret not picking one up at a Walmart few years back in Kansas City for 15 bucks even had a bundle with Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga.

I think I'm gonna try and get a black Micro with a camo faceplate to couple my Famicom one... I'm bored of the Fami one. It's so gaudy looking, the faceplate is distracting.

Thanks a lot guys, I had to finally track one of these down. Not bad, $30 w/ charger at Gamestop. I used their website to find one close to me. I love it already!

I think I am going to jump in the Micro train tomorrow and get a new one off ebay. They look so good, and GBA has the greatest lineup of any system ever for pretty cheap. Will post some unboxing photos once I get it.
