GAME cancelling Switch 2 preorders less than a week before launch (UK)

I can't remember another console launch where I was thinking "man, the US of A and little Britain get royally f*** here, thank god I'm a continental European". I guess Nintendo really is a leader in innovation.

I mean, if you read the article, you'd see it's a Game problem and that the store is trying to reinstate as many of the preorders as they can. Far be it from me to get in the way of your compulsive hate wank though. *shrug*

To be fair, I don't understand why anyone would order anything through GAME anyway. They have been crap for years, and have been on the edge of bankruptcy numerous times.

Didn't read, what's the reason for the cancellation? I hope it's not unit allocation as we were under the impression Nintendo had literally years to mass produce the console well before launch so that everyones grandmother and her dog can get a Switch, too 😂

Do a better job with thread creation next time. There is absolutely no reason to start a thread just giving a link to a video or website. I'm not clicking your dumb link just because you're too lazy to put the details in the thread.

Respectfully.
So you'd rather I duplicate what the article says and then post link as source? Doesn't make sense mate. The title specifies what needs to be said, and there's a link if you want more info.

GAME is just a zombie right now.

Not long for this world. A shame as it was the only real videos game store in the UK left. Now most stores are tucked into stinky sports direct stores.

I called Walmart to try and change the payment method and got a little snippy with them because the agent was lost and his best solution was to cancel and re-buy it even though their help page says you can do it (and contradicts itself in several places regarding how and when you can). They promised higher management would contact me and it never happened.

Then I learned that Walmart was cancelling preorders just for calling and asking a support question -one guy lost his preorder just for asking which store it was shipping to, in another case Walmart nuked his entire account. Suddenly I felt the urge to send an apology note with a cupcake insisting that the existing payment is perfectly fine and there is no problem here.

The title doesn't say what caused this, if the company is doing anything about it, et cetera. It's a shitty thread.

That said, GAME says that it is "working hard to reinstate as many affected pre-orders as possible", which suggests that perhaps someone made a bit of a boo boo and accidentally hit the 'cancel' button somewhere.

Thread is a little exaggerated considering it sounds like it was an error on their end and not them actually cancelling the orders for shits and giggles. Lol

And yet here you are posting multiple times! You do realise a heading is just that, a heading. You expecting what's caused it and what company is doing about it in one thread creation line? That's what the body of the post is for, or a handy link that takes you to source.

This is what happens when you announce dates and times to order high in demand items. You not only crash the websites making it hard to order, but you oversell and have to screw people over. I said it time and time again, retailers should shadow drop pre-orders so only the most dedicated get them and fewer will get screwed. Also, no website crashes(at least initially).

It's not the first time GAME have cancelled pre orders at basically the last minute.

They're a shit company and somehow even shitter under Mike Ashley.

I bet some people in germany will have a similar rude awakening if they pre-ordered from MediaMarkt/Saturn, as those preorders seemed suspicious to me as well.

they still took preorders 24 after they started, and I doubt they have enough for all the people who tried to get in on that.

It took you longer to get there than it should have, but that was the thesis of my original post. Glad you could finally bring some braincells out to play! :messenger_winking:

You seem to have conveniently not highlighted the next bit "or a handy link that takes you to source.". Strange that?
Maybe you couldn't scroll the highlight that far?

Edit: oh sorry, and... :messenger_kissing_smiling:
Also: I've better things to do, so congrats, you have my first ever 'ignore' against your profile. 👋

Honestly thought I heard a few weeks / months ago that GAME was (for the final time this time, no backsies) bankrupt / closing for good.

Seems nonsensical they would accept pre-orders for anything, let alone something this big.

Sucks for those customers effected.

Dont get the drama of preordering, I signed up to loads of stock alerts, one day 3 weeks ago went on nintendos website and preordered one mario kart bundle straight away .. hopefully its dispatches

I picked my original Switch up at launch day from my local Game.
It was pathetic.
No fanfare, no excitement, no enthusiasm, no pageantry, point of sale consisted of black and white images stuck to a small sandwich board.
The Manager looked miserable and everybody there looked glum.
Dreamcast launch there was similar.
Staff who work there are usually (in my experience, don't come at me) only marginally less disinterested than the greasy, up their own ass alternative snobs at Cex.
Sorry state of affairs.

This really sucks. I managed to get 4 preorders in for launch, one with game, one from Smyth's Toys, one from Amazon and one from Shopto.

I canceled the game one because charging 9.99 for shipping is absurd and I'm keeping all the preorders until a few days before launch.

Shootout already confirmed the order is in their warehouse and that it will be shipped, so I will probably just cancel the Smyth's Toys and keep the Amazon one since canceling/returning is a painless experience. I would have gone with them but for some reason they are going to deliver them on the 7th instead of the 5th and I'm a baby and want it on day one.

If anyone got fucked over by game, let me know and I can keep the preorder from Amazon and sent it to you.

They still get exclusive editions of games. I was thinking about getting the MGS3 one but if they declare bankruptcy everyone who puts down money will be up shit creek.

If you must insist on pre ordering from places (for EU at least), do yourself a favour and use a credit card. If the company disappears, or you don't get your items, then you get the money back. Credit debt is not yours until you accept the debt in exchange for goods or services.

Don't underestimate Mediamarkt, they get huge shipments.

I seen they got the Silent Hill 2 steel case edition months ago, which was bizarre then tbh as I thought they were dead, but somehow they still get exclusives and deals with companies. Although, they did have some issues with supply and demand for those as far as I remember people saying.

Just seems weird to then announce a massive pre-order knowing they're in the middle of being closed. Feel bad for those getting screwed over.
