Game display unit at Gamestop?

I went to pick up virtua tennis psp at gamestop, and they told me they only have 1 unit left. So the guy then proceed to grab the virtua tennis display box from the shelf, and pull out a bag from the drawer containing the manual & umd and put them into the box. They told me that this is the last unit they have, and it's brand new because they took the manual and umd out so that they can have a display box on shelf. Is this a normal practice, or were they bullshitting me?

It's normal, don't worry about it. If it really bothers you, don't buy from specialty stores anymore.

Well it's not bothering me that much, as I ended up buying it anyways. I just wanted to make sure that's all.

Babbage's did this when I bought Zelda Link's Awakening DX for Gameboy color. So they've been doing this for a while. I'm OK with this as long as the games aren't used and the box still looks new.

Or just don't buy that particular game.

The Gamestop I go to knows I don't like 'used' copies of games and don't bother when it's the last one, or ask me before they grab it.

Yeah, they call them "gutted" copies of the games. I don't care when I get one too much as long as there aren't any stickers on the case.

Can you return it for a full refund if you don't like it? It's not like they can say you opened it and played it. It was already opened when you bought it.

They usually put a clear sticker/seal over the edge so that you need to break it in order to open it. At least, in my experience this is how they do it. Of course, it's also a good way to make a possibly already crappy "new" copy even worse.

Does anyplace actually still do full refunds (even in store credit) for opened games unless it's defective anymore?
