I joined for Erin Brockovich discussion
It's hard for me to tell how powerful the dragons are. They certainly looked powerful, but it took them a fair amount of time to ruin the ship, which I'd think would be pretty easy to destroy given that it was wood and had flammable material for the catapults. My takeaway from that (which could be completely wrong) was that the dragons were not as powerful as they looked. With that said and army with dragons would, of course, have an advantage over an army without.

You are mistaken. That boat was done for inside 5 seconds, they just went overkill on it to break it in half. Crew was toasted, and everything on the deck of the ship were completely on fire. That ship was nullified long before it broke in half.

"playing" dumb? unpossible
The other day I said that I also believed Dany would finally set sail this season and this week's episode made it seem like it's gonna happen. She now has the Iron Fleet and The Master's armada and she even asks Tyrion if it was "enough" and I said something like "it should be".

>No more Masters
>Enough ships
>3 armies
>3 fully controllable dragons

IT'S TIME BABYYYY

Yeah baby! Now that she has wrapped things up in the east, it's time to boot those western, golden haired cunts, off of the throne.

So allies and possible allies in the West:

Dorne
Greyjoys (I fully expect a massive naval engagement against Uncle Ramsay)
Maybe Tyrell due to prior allegiance (true to the bitter end during the Usurper's rebellion)

King's Landing is in disarray.
Who is even running the Stormlands?
No one likes the Lannisters
The North are worried about the wall.

She won't even be facing stable nations united under their kings like her ancestors did the first time. I fully expect the true major war to be against the White walkers.

It took them mere seconds to completely sink a ship outright. They could have strafed and just set fire to the sails and decks to let them sink in a couple minutes. The goal though was to inspire terror among the fleet and nothing quite does terror like being burned alive.

Subbing to new thread. Hopefully episode 10 can keep up with the last one.
Same director as 9. I have high hopes

At the very least, they have to have Zombie Mountain go on a rampage, right? Like it would be a waste for him to only kill two people this season.

Edit: just realized that Sapochnik also directed Hardhome. Dayum

This is pretty amazing.

http://www.ew.com/article/2016/06/19/game-thrones-battle-director

One day in the middle of shooting BOB, there was a moment when I realized we just could not complete the sequence as planned. Three days of consistent rain had turned the field into a bog nine inches deep with mud so thick things were slowing down, and morale with it. The crew are a tough bunch but when the wind and rain is blowing in your face 13 hours a day and for weeks on end and it’s literally a game of death to make it up the hill to grab a drink or use the loo because it’s so slippery, everyone gets a bit down.

One evening I got home and I kind of knew we couldn’t finish in the time we had left so I wrote a long email to David and Dan and the other producers to suggest an alternative that I thought we could achieve in the remaining time, but that would mean going “off book” for three days. That is to say, we’d be shooting without a script. I finished the email and made a cup of tea (no whisky in the house) then waited for the response, which I fully expected to be a public chastisement and general reaming for even suggesting that (Dan and David like their scripts executed the way they wrote them, and with good reason).

It was late already and if were going to do this we needed to employ this idea first thing the next day. But I couldn’t move forward without their consent and they were in L.A. at the time. I hadn’t even worked exactly out how I’d do it, I just knew we need a Plan B.

Anyway, not 15 minutes later, I get a ping on the email and David and Dan have replied. They said it sucked not to be able to finish as scripted but they also understood the crunch we were in and that they trusted me and to have at it.

I think that this section of the fight — in which Jon is almost buried alive by a stampede of panicking wildings — turned out as one of my favorite little moments in the sequence. No VFX, no fighting, just Kit giving a stellar performance and a crazy top shot as he pushes his way back out (we affectionately called it the “rebirthing” shot). The other reason I liked it is because of what it meant to be allowed to follow my gut and go for it. That kind of trust you can’t buy and it felt like a privilege to have been given that kind of support to go into unchartered territory by the producers in such a high stakes game.

She spent so long building and army and getting ships, when she finally gets to Westeros she would realise she didn't even need any of that and there isn't anything to 'win' as such... until someone tells her of Jon and the White Walkers.

I do wonder why White Walkers can't have ships or go over the sea though, that's an easy way around the wall. Another magical barrier along the coast?

Stopped watching after episode 2 for some reason, only just now caught up and hell, it's actually been a pretty great season. Far better than season 5, that's for sure. Still kinda iffy on the whole hold the door thing, but otherwise I've liked.. Well, everything!

Had the biggest goddamn smile when Sandor returned

Idk I feel like Zombie Mountain could go toe to toe with Wun Wun.

Strength vs Size

Strength vs Size AND a whole lot more strength.

As Drogon and the other dragons continue to grow in size, do their skin/scales also become increasingly stronger as well? Video games typically have a dragon scale type armor so dragon scale must be tough.

If they only do 13 more, I feel it's because they want to have bigger budgets for each episode.
It also takes much longer to film the big action scenes. Think about how long most Hollywood movies spend in production vs. how long the Thrones crew have got to make 10 hours of comparable content.

It's the same thing AMC did with Breaking Bad.

They're just extending the amount of time people watch the channel. Why keep people tuned in for one year when you can keep them for two? Especially on a subscription-based service like HBO.

Money is the only reason for this decision.
Watching Breaking Bad's last season and Dexters last season back to back was the most jarring shit I've ever experienced.
Wun Wun v The Mountain wouldn't even be a contest.
He's a freaking giant ffs.
This is like discussing DIO vs Polnareff.

I read this yesterday and would love to know what the original take was. Though I'm not disappointed they changed it.

It makes me wonder about some of the other things people might not have been keen on in the past when he mentions that DnD "like their scripts executed the way they wrote them".

I wish they could get Sapochnik to direct more episodes because even non action sequences were so beautifully shot. Though due to time constraints I'm sure that it's impossible.

I wonder how it must feel for everyone in the north to see something like Wun Wun. Pretty sure even Littlefinger must've been taken aback or at least intrigued to learn giants still exist.

Wonder if LF even cares about the White Walkers at all to be frank.

Sapochnik should direct every episode for the rest of the show,

and the dude that directed No One and S05E06 should never direct another episode

So Ghost has to be The Wall still right? We didn't see him when Jon and co. departed and we haven't seen him so much as sleeping in the background.

Smart move. No way he would have made it out that battle alive.

Since there are spoilers, can someone who has clicked on it find the name of the song from last weeks ep when Jon was facing the oncoming cavalry.

It's only up for preorder so far, and there aren't previews so we can't listen, but I'm gonna guess if it's on the soundtrack it's probably part of track 14, which is titled "Let's Play a Game." Presumably that's the music that starts with Rickon running and ends with Jon facing down the charge. Might also be track 15, which is titled "Bastard." Tracks past that look like finale stuff.

I would like a side series, animation perhaps, just about the adventures of Ghost on his days off.

i'd laugh my asss off if little finger pulls a necklace up from under his shirt and reveals he is the lord of the light's servent. a priest as such and then super sayins into a firey blob killing 3/4s of the white walkers/wrights only leaving the night king and his guard to fight against the rest of the main characters.

"I too, have secrets, Sansa...."

Vied for a tag related to cocks, so here it is.
That was possibly the most satisfying 15 minutes of television I've ever watched. I mean the whole battle was absolutely fantastic, fucking brutal but to watch Ramsay get absolutely battered AND eaten by his own dogs. Christ I didn't think this show would ever reward us with something like that, it was like the exact opposite of the Mountain vs The Viper.

I reckon King's Landing is going up in flames next week, though we'll have to see, I imagine that storyline will be the focus of the episode. Also great to see Theon and Yara get to Daeny first.

Two possible tracks. 14. Let's Play a Game & 15. Bastard

Edit: beaten : D

Thank you both.

Thinking of Dany's invasion of Westeros and the state of the country as of right now, I started having fun with the numbers of the remaining forces of Westeros.

The North:
The Boltons, Umbers, Karstarks, Starks, wildling and minor houses forces have been almost completely depleted. The remaining noteworthy houses are the Cerwyns and the Manderlys.
I want to say there are 2,000 Cerwyn men, but I have absolutely no idea where that number comes from. Let's just go with that number for the whole North.

The Riverlands:
Right now, most of the Riverlands forces are Freys :V
Adding to that whatever the Blackfish managed to get, and assuming most of the forces Frey gave to Robb came back, this should put the Riverlands at again 2,000.

The Vale:
Highly speculative, but someone once said that the Vale's army matched Robb's. And since they were untouched by any war until BastardBowl (and they still were pretty much untouched after that), they probably have around 20,000 men.

The Westerlands:
It seems other people speculate the Lannisters to have between 30,000 and 60,000 men. Don't know if that number is before the wars or not. Let's take the average and give them 45,000.

The Reach:
I think it was Jaime that mentions the Tyrells have the second biggest army of Westeros. Not accounting for the size of the Dornish army, as of this line in this post, the second biggest army is the Vale and the biggest the Lannisters. Let's give them a point between those two, I'd say 35,000.

The Stormlands:
An important portion of the Stormlands army was lost to the Blackwater, and the siege of Winterfell. Doubt that there is much more from them. Gonna give them another 2,000.

Dorne:
God, do they love to be different. Anyway, the Dornish numbers are all over the place. Apparently, GRRM has said that Dorne is as strong as the North or the Vale. That would put them in the 20,000 range. I think that's a nice number.

Summary:
North: 2,000
Riverlands: 2,000
Vale: 20,000
Westerlands: 45,000
Reach: 35,000
Stormlands: 2,000
Dorne: 20,000

Total:
Westeros: 126,000

Dany's army was around 8-9,000 before she got kidnapped by the Dothraki considering all the loses from the Harpies and whatnot. The Khalasaar she got is said to be 100,00 though it is not clear how many of those are fighting men. Everyone is assuming 50% of that are fighting men, so let's go with that. That puts 60,000 men on her side, and 3 goddamn dragons above her.

If and only if, the entirety of Westeros is summoned to fight Daenerys, There is a chance she could be repelled if for example they focus on the dragons first.

But, Dorne is likely to side with her, because feminism and Lannister hate. And I don't think anyone but the Lannister-Tyrell forces would even bother.

That puts the resulting armies in
Westeros: 80,000
Dany: 80,000 + 3 Dragons

Of course, this is mostly speculation and I may be wrong about half of it. But it was fun to come up with all of that, and I already spent too much time to throw it away. If those numbers are somewhat correct, she has a clear shot to invading Westeros, but it won't be pretty, and it won't be easy.

Did I miss a hint before that Cersei was considering using wild fire?
She was talking about the rumors in episode 8, before that we had a few shots of wildfire breaking out in one of Bran's visions. In episode 9, Tyrian was talking about wildfire in king's landing which hardly seems coincidental.

Put two and two together, Cersei will use wild fire in sure of it.

I feel like the last few episodes of the series will be like movie length (and almost movie budget). I dont mind 7 episodes or so a season if each episode is like 70+ minutes.

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
That wild fire is definitely getting used in some way soon. No way around that. They've been nudging the viewer and reminding us of it all season. It was the same thing with Cersei's trial by combat. She kept bringing up winning as a certainty (or should I say Cerseinty), so something had to go wrong with it.

That EW article is so good. I can't believe the best moment of the episode was something they did off book.

Indeed, a few weeks ago it seemed like a theory but now I just don't see it going any other way.

Jon Snow's ultimate ability needs to be nerfed

I still think Jon, Dany and Bran will be the ones controlling the dragons once we're in season 8.

However, if we see a goddam White Walker dragon, I'm going to have the biggest erection known to man.

What if the ending to the series is just that whoever wins the iron throne just ends up getting annihilated by the winter and the whitewalkers. All of humanity just ends. Then all the struggles and pettiness would be for nothing in the end.
