They couldn't have picked a worse release date.
You mean while the show is getting crazy high viewers and acclaim?
Yup agreed, they should have waited til late summer when GOT fever was dead.

I just want to stress that you should be very cautious about this game. Wait for reviews, especially if you were crazy enough to want it depite lacking money these days.
Like I said in the other thread, I know people who were working on this. I'll be a little bit more specific this time.
To be perfectly clear, this is a game that wants to be big but lack the budget, the talent and the direction to back it up.
They didn't know what to do with the combat system and redid it from scratch multiple times. They didn't have any experience doing this type of game. They got in contact with MArtin and his assistant twice at most. The "Martin approval" thing was just to be sure that the storyline doesn't contradict the books and future books.
Writing is bad and doesn't match the books or the show at all. On top of that remember that a French team did it (with a guy as lead writer who was described to me as "an idiot and Anakin Skywalker fan"), and the french translation of the books are atrocious and chaotic. Now imagine that then translated in english.
I won't even bring up the horrible balancing and the graphics.
Watch for reviews. It will tell you want you need to know. This will fool no one. When people working on a game use "unplayable and zero fun" to describe it, there is little hope.

Sad, if true. But like this game, I will be skeptical of this post as well.
I intend to leave the game wrapped until I get some impressions from GAF. If it sucks, I'll trade it in for Dragon's Dogma. No biggie, I'm covered for my RPG either way.
....
Why would someone bother to lie about it?
Think people should trust the post, tbh.
But he never even claimed to have played it. So at best he's relaying 2nd hand information, if not third hand.
And from the preview I saw earlier on gamespot the game didn't look nearly as bad as he claims.
I'm still waiting for reviews but I'm hopeful.
No review one week before release is suspicious by the way.
In any case even If I hadn't any insider info, I know the state of the videogame industry in my country. This doesn't bode well.
You're right. I didn't play it. And there is always a small possibility that I've been lied to until this day or maybe those people have weird taste or that their judgement was clouded by the problems during development.
That's why I said people should wait for reviews, and to be cautious.

The thing about that "cautionary" post is that it said the writing is shit. I find that one a bit tough to swallow since George RR Martin himself helped pen it and made sure it was all canon. I don't think he'd just rubber stamp it and collect a check.
So you're saying it'll be $5 during the Steam Summer Sale? Sold!I just want to stress that you should be very cautious about this game. Wait for reviews, especially if you were crazy enough to want it depite lacking money these days.

Keep in mind that Martin has a shitload of things to do and in any case sure didn't write the dialogue and text of the game. This is basic PR stuff. In theory it's awesome, in practice, someone else did the job.
It is also a videogame and not a core piece of the franchise. I was also told they made the dialogue "accessible" to a broad audience, aka, dumbed it down. I don't know who translated it, though. It may save something.
On a bright note, most of the team is made of fans of the books.

Releasing a PC RPG on the same day as Diablo 3 is retail suicide regardless of what license they have.

Now read Shahadan's post :lol
I was fairly excited for this until that post. Let's hope it doesn't turn out too bad. If anything we might see the license go to a more deserving developer in the future.

I canceled my preorder, I will still keep an eye on it and as long as it gets ok reviews I will pick it up. That post made it sound like it may turn out terrible though.
Shouldn't we see some reviews soon? I mean it comes out next week.
Review embargos that don't end on launch day are a rarity these days.
Are we sure the only place to get the art book is preordering from amazon? Nobody else will have it?
here ya go buddy..
http://www.gameofthrones-thegame.com/purchase.html
Games + Artbook preorder is only on Gamestop,EB Games,Amazon.com,Amazon.ca,HBO store
Looks like it has the production values of an Xbox1 game.
Is this a situation similar to the Vivendi-Universal Lord of the Rings games, where the publisher has the rights to the novels, but not to the likenesses of the actors or art design of the filmed adaptation?
