Thank you for being a loyal customer of Xbox for 20+ years. To celebrate you, we are going to fuck you in the butt with no protection and increase your Game Pass Ultimate membership price to $30 a month.

This price change allows us to continue to bring you more value and great games for the very best gaming experience. Starting 4 November 2025, you will be charged £22.99 plus applicable taxes every recurrence period unless you cancel up to two days prior to your next scheduled payment date.

They want to consolidate the base. Current subscribers will stay long term if they increase prices while they pay same. Makes it more valuable.

I sure will be, new rates are 3 times what I pay monthly now.

That would be a good way ro reduce Churn rate. For those churning, they pay more for the Day 1 games.

If you get price increased, you could always secure Ultimate for $15 month for 15 months via the Essential to Ultimate conversion.
 
I'm in France and looks like my GPU subscription is still at 14.99 € for now (but that's not even the right current GPU price, I think it should be 17.99).

But yesterday night I received an email saying my GPU sub would go from 215.99 € (17.99 * 12) annually to 323.99 € (26.99 * 12).
I'm not annually subscribed, only monthly, but I did not directly pay since years thanks to Rewards and redeemed codes, that may explain the old 14.99 price.
 
They don't want to mess with EUs consumer protection laws.

But this also tells you a lot when they don't have any sympathy for people in their home country - American law is organised to serve corporation interest only. I think US folks needs to start watching Luis Rossman more, nothing will change unless people start to protest this bullshit.
 
I have heard that the price increases have been absurd in some countries, including less-developed countries where people are least able to afford the cost. I could imagine them walking it back in some select regions.

They aren't doing anything tho, it's a phishing scam (apparently) o.0

Quick question to everyone who did get this email...did it go to your main inbox directly or your junk email pile? If the latter, it's probably fake. I've never gotten legit emails from Microsoft that go into my junk email area.

Would people stop sharing pictures of their Renewal page? The price hike doesn't go into effect until 4 November so if you're sharing images with a renewal date before that day, you're not proving anything.

Didn't know this, thanks. This entire situation hasn't been…very clear, to say the least.
 
No. This is new, last week this wasn't on the cards.

Before canceling, I saw what would I have to pay with Auto-Renew come March 2026 when my GPU went DoDo, it was 26.99€. So was my brother's further along the line, so was a few friends. We all said hahaha NO, FUCK YOU. 😄

They probably got such a ludicrous deluge of CANCEL in EU they got VERY NERVOUS and had to do this, but as far as yesterday, it was still 26.99€.

EDIT: Just checked, still 26,99€. Nothing has changed. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Here is the twist. If you already have an active game pass subscription. Everyone who was upset pretty much cancelled their subscription already. So they don't have an active subscription and therefore fall under the "new rates" should they resubscribe. Also the rates have already gone up for new subscribers so what kind of "offer" is this?? It's more of a PR prayer to keep from bleeding more users, oh and how about they tell you what regions MIGHT be saved…

I read some dude will get the new price hike in February when his sub ends with recurring on, but his son with monthly recurring is getting old price. If i find the tweet i'll link it.

If you want loyalty, buy a dog. This increase is bullshit, man. It could work in a completely closed off environment, but there are many options outside of Xbox.

I have to commend Sony's PS Plus, you actually get to own the games they offer for the sub, and they also don't suddenly go schizoid with pricing.
