Gamefly vs. Gameznflix

I've only had Gamefly for about 3 weeks now and the turn around time is pathetic compared to netflix, I wish they would start renting games. I'm doing the queue trick for Too Human and if it works, I'll be saving a lot of money on Viva Pinata, Banjo Kazooie, Fable, and Gears of War

GnF for games is about the worst choice you can make. They really only have a few copies of each of their games, and have around 9,000 members. So yeah, you won't be playing much.

Luckily for them they have enough older movies to satisfy me. That's been the only thing that's kept me from canceling.

EDIT:

oh, and their web interface is about the worst piece of shit imaginable. They give you result groups in the thousands, with no way to fucking sort the lists. Miserable.

That was my main problem with GF (the long turn around time) especially compared to NF.

GnF is basically a giant scam at this point. I can't believe I got bilked into switching back... if anyone does in fact want to use them for their movie services, make sure to use some of the coupon codes on the web when signing up. You can get 3 out at a time for like $12.99 that way.

Yeah apparently they are opening a center in Philly and stress testing it now. Should be available to all subscribers in the very near future.

Hells yeah, I live about 2 hours from Philly. Can't wait to start getting my GF games in a day!

I've been using Gamefly for a couple years now. It's not perfect and turnaround times can be long, but as long as you manage your queue correctly (plenty have posted about how to do it best), it works well.

The best part is that they give you the option to keep your games at a discount. So I had a new copy of GTA4 a couple days after release and then kept it for about $40-$45. They even send you the case and manual for free.

Gamefly hands down. GnF was alright when I first signed up some years back, but their service slowly got worse until basically nothing ever shipped out, and I was paying to get absolutely nothing... I don't even want to think about what it's like now. Switched to gamefly and haven't had a single complaint since. On top of that, their membership discounts and buy it now prices are awesome.

Woah, when did GameFly start doing Fast Return?

"FastReturn will start the processing of your next game as soon as we receive confirmation from the U.S. Postal Service that a game has been returned in the mail. You may no longer need to wait until we receive the returned game in our warehouse before we send the next available game in Your GameQ!

NOTE: The USPS does not have scanning equipment in all locations. Therefore, not all GameFly members will be able to participate in this service."

I just checked my queue and this is the first time I ever saw that, I just sent the games on Saturday. Either way, I live in Pennsylvania and get the games quickly now thanks to the close shipping center. I've been a member for 2-3 years, so having a 10% discount on purchases means if I couple that with a $5 off coupon I can buy new $60 games for $38. So it's pretty much a great service, atleast in my experience.

Gamefly's a completely flawless service, at least based on where I live (Maryland). It never takes me more than 2 days to either send games back or receive them after they've been shipped.

And the ability to buy and keep games you've rented for considerably cheaper than retail (even if the game just recently came out - the "keep it" price for SCIV is just $47.99 right now), which also includes Gamefly actually sending you the box and manual for it within a couple days, is simply superb.

Just a great service, and an enormous money saver. I have no complaints at all.

my problem with both of them is the price. i dont have a lot of time to play games anymore, so doing $15 a month for one at a time at gamefly (or $23 for two) sucks. It takes me a couple months to finish most games, so at the price, I might as well just buy them outright.

i do like gamefly's commercials though.

Man, next-gen is just too expensive.

I am in the same position; as I listed Soul Calibur 4 on Ebay this morning, I realized how sick I was of buying $60 games and them selling them a few weeks later. It's just not worth it any more. Time for a rental service..

I used GameFly for about 9 months, but stopped last March because I was out of work and couldn't justify any expense that wasn't tied directly to clothing/housing/feeding... but now that I am back on the upswing, I will be getting GameFly again in the fall.

I just need to get through my damn backlog a bit before I can justify it.

I think GameFly is absolutely phenomenal. Yeah, you know, sometimes you don't get the exact game you wanted, but you'll get something, and usually pretty quickly.

I'm about ready to give up on Gamefly, they just failed on me. Too Human has been in my queue for 5 days prior to release, and now I've waited two days for it to be shipped so I assume I won't be getting it. Kind of a let down because I was hoping to save some money by using Gamefly, but if I can't get the new games when they come out it's not worth it.

Well, it looks like Gamefly has let me down with Too Human as well. But I can let it slide this time as it's the very first time they didn't produce for me as far as new games go. I got Call of Duty 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, Grand Theft Auto 4 and Soul Calibur 4 (that's a lot of 4s) on the very day or very next day of release.

You've been good to me GameFly so I won't fault you too much this time.

I've come to accept I won't be getting new games most of the time and prepare for it by keeping another game I want to play in my Queue. Though, I did get MGS4 after waiting for about 5 days with it as the only game in my queue before they shipped.

10% off, $5 every 3 months, used game prices that beat retail by a bunch and relatively good turn-around make it worth it to me.

Hey everybody. I've decided to finally try out one of those rent a game through the mail services.

I'm curious as to which one is better based on your personal experience. I live in New York City, so I'm on the east coast.

Thanks!

I will not be renting movies.

STAY AWAY FROM GAMEZNFLIX

I live in NYC, too. But that's not the point. Their online "indicator" of having games in stock always lies. You have to make a 15 or more queue just to have 1 game sent out. They have such a small supply. It's only good if you want to play really old games and are willing to wait 3 weeks to get it in the mail.

Seriously. Stay away from Gameznflix. They have no stock.

Are you saying you pay $5 every 3 months for Gamefly? If so how did you do it because I want in.

I did the $5.95 for 1 month + 400 MS points. Plan on dropping the membership before the month is over.

Put Too Human, Force Unleashed, and Gears of War 2 in my queue. Too Human shipped this morning. Figured it's worth $1 for a rental.

lucky bastard :( If Too Human doesn't ship by tomorrow I'm cancelling and buying the game at Gamestop

I blogged about GameFly earlier this week:
https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/blogArt.cfm?artid=16563

Unless you live right next to a distribution center, the turnaround is pretty much unacceptable. You could have a game consistently by paying for the two-at-a-time plan and staggering the discs, but then you're really only playing one-at-a-time.

Still, I have so many games to catch up on with my new 360 that I may keep the subscription for at least one more month. I have plenty of other games in my backlog to get me through the week-long wait between games.

Unfortunately not. I was referring to the $5 gamefly credit they give you every 3 months towards used games.

Gamefly just sent me too human. For a second i thought this was going to be the first time they didnt send me a game on day 1. I should have it by saturday

I signed up for gamefly during the 8 bucks the first month, 400 free gamerpoints thing... and fuck is it awful in my area. It takes about a week and a half to get a game back from sending it out, and anything worthwhile or recent is "low"; which basically means you don't get it. Ever. I was going to use it instead of having to buy games so often, but anything relatively new doesn't seem like it will be available. Which defeats the purpose.

I used gamefly from 2005-2007? I quit last year because I could never get any games. Everything was out, even when I timed getting the new games on release day.

I live in MN, and it was usually a 5 day turnaround time. In a few rare cases, I got the game in 3-4 days, but that was very rare.

I now do the model of "buy-play it-beat it-ebay it." It works better for me.

I had GnF. I hated it. Sure it's cheap, but their collection is horrible. And I had to wait for more than one week many times even though they have distribution center where I live and games are available. So I closed my account.

Yep, same story here.

Gamefly is awesome to me, but it all depends on where you're located in respect to the nearest distribution center.

I live in Houston, and they opened up a center in Austin (about 2.5 hrs away) a few months ago. I get games usually 1-2 days after they ship to me. I'd say about 75% of the time I'll get the game the next day.

Before the Austin center opened up though, my distro center was in Cali and it was TERRIBLE. Turnaround times was often a week if not more and it just wasn't worth it, so I canceled. I resigned up again about a month ago and I've nothing but great experiences.

I have the 2 game plan, and my Q is filled with nothing but upcoming games. I've had Madden 09 since it released and this morning they shipped Too Human to me. If you want a new game when it releases always keep a slot open. I had Soul Calibur IV since it released, and I dropped it in mailbox last Thursday and they received it on Monday a good 3 days before the next game in my Q (Too Human) was scheduled to ship. Next game in my Q is Mercs 2 which comes out in about a week, so I'll play Too Human probably until the middle of next week before sending it back to get Mercs 2.

I have it set up like this with all upcoming games I'll want to play from now until the end of the year in order from closest release on down. This way I can always look and see when the next game releases that I want to play, and can decide how long I have to hold onto the games I've got.

I've got no problems with the service. If you manage your Q right you can essentially get new games for $46 (even less if you've been a member for awhile and can get discounts and coupons) with their keep it option. Says I can keep Madden 09 for $46 as well as Too Human.

2 Thumbs up from me!

I'm looking to start gamefly. I live in NC. I'm mainly subscribing to get this fall's lineup. What can I expect as far as being able to play games on release, if say I want to reserve Dead Space, LBP, and other biggies?

Will I have to wait weeks to get to play new releases?

They opened up a distribution center in Tampa which I would think mean you'd be able to receive your games within a few days. It takes me 2-3 here in Chicago with a distribution center in Pittsburgh.

If you have an open game slot, it's pretty reliable that you can get the game shipped to you when it's available.
