Gamefly vs. Gameznflix

I've had a terrible time with GameFly. I live in Ohio, and I usually got my new game about a week after I sent the old one back. At one point I didn't recieve any games for a month due to a glitch. And when I tried to cancel they charged me $60 for a game I had sent back two days before I cancelled. I went through a lot of trouble with customer service, and three weeks later they finally got the game and gave me my money back.
They do have a really great website, and I might resubscribe when they open their east coast center.

Pittsburgh? That pretty much would guarantee 1-2 day deliveries for me...

I've been a member since friggin '04 and have been subscribed to their 4 out plan as long as I can remember, why didn't I get an email from them about this east coast center? The bitches....

gamefly is more expensive, and has terrible shipping times (unless you live on the west coast). they do, however have good customer support.

gameznflix is cheaper, has better shipping (due to more distribution centers), and movies. but their customer support sucks.

Same except the 4 game out plan. Still sticking 2 but they won't stop sending me emails about upgrading to 3 games. Delivery time has been pretty strange for me. I could have sworn I've got games in what seems like 3 or so days, but others It's like I've been waiting forever ( I live in Florida).

Living near the distribution center rules.

I get games from GameFly the next day I get the "Your Game has Shipped", and a new one ships 1 day after I put in in the mailbox.

I get about 6-8 games a month from it for 15 bucks (1 game at a time). I haven't bought a game in a long time...

But in terms of availabiity...with third party titles that are not big releases, and they're new...they usually get a wait fast, and if it is a major title, better plan your timing.

How I do it for a major title is clear my list and only have the 1 title I want, and I make sure my games are returned. Always works.

It's also a life saver for sites like mine which don't always get advance review copies of product so we don't go spending a shit load of money and then losing some on trying to re-sell them back.

I use Blockbuster's service for movies and GameFly for games. I ass rape Blockbuster...for 9.99 a month I get a free in-store rental, and I get 1 movie out at a time from their distribution centers. I live near one here, and when I get a movie, I watch it that night. I take it back to Blockbuster and get ANOTHER free movie. Plus, because it was scanned in at Blockbuster, they ship out the next movie faster.

I go through literally 20+ movies a month for 9.99. And their online selection of anime is very good for the price...much better than any of their in-store selections.

I'm getting really get disappointed with Gamesznflix myself. For some reason they have trouble getting my returned games even though their address is in a neighboring state. It has been about 10 days since I sent it and still no change in my queue. The last time this happened they finally received it a week later. I was gonna report that it may haven't gotten lost in the mail but I gotta wait 10 working days to do it heh.

I've sent over another movie soon afterward and they haven't received that one also. Maybe I'm just having bad luck with mail service. Long game exchanges was the main reason I switched to it from gamefly.

And of course the shoddy website and wierd queue system (first 3 games bypassed even though they all have full availabilty) is really pissing me off.

I really can't reccomend this site to anyone even with the price and options it brings as I've really been getting more and more frustrated with the service. Hope it shapes up soon or I'll have to just do gamefly/netflix or something.

How long have you been in a member? I want to say 18 months but I don't think that's right..on the other hand I've been with GF since 04 so it could very well be 18 months.

:O

Two weeks:lol

i would go back to gamefly in a heartbeat if they had distrubtion center in the midwest. when i was with them i had a problem with a game getting returned, but all i did was the wait 7 days from the date that i put the game back in the mail and emailed them like it says in the faq. they took care of it right away.

with gnf they make you jump through a lot of hoops whenever you have to contact customer service.

how long is forever?

3-Game Plan (requires an active account in good standing for at least 60 days)
Three games out at a time
$28.95/month + applicable tax

4-Game Plan (requires an active account in good standing for at least 60 days)
Four games out at a time
$35.95/month + applicable tax

lots of good info here I'm thinking of going with Gamefly to rent games I'm not sure about and also buy games at a lower price.

so maybe I'll try it when I have more than one console at home

hai. >_> I have a question. I just signed up for the gameznflix free trial, mainly so I could rent Super Paper Mario. Unfortunately, they still have SPM listed as a March 28th 2007 release, and for Gamecube. Does this mean I won't be getting it any time soon? >_>

they'll probably update it tomorrow. kororinpa wasn't even added to the database until the week of release. thus far i've found GnF to be inferior to GF in every regard except the cheapo price (and movies i guess, but i don't use them at all).

In terms of speed Gameznflix is great (michigan), but I hate how they dont add games to the site until after they are released... its really hard to make a decent queue

Hm... alright. Well, if I already have 2 games in my queue, but SPM is at #1 priority (and it's on order, not in queue), will they probably automatically move it into the #1 spot on the queue before the 2 games are shipped? I don't want to be stuck with SSX Blur instead of SPM... it's just the game that I picked incase they don't ship SPM. :/

Awesome. Sucks that I live in Virginia and didn't get the email (apparently I'm not in the initial rollout) though. Once this gets into full swing there's really no reason not to go with GF.

the game ships tomorrow, right? gameznflix sucks at updating their website. i'd check back over the next couple of days to see if the game has been listed correctly.

alternatively you could contact customer support

I'm bailing out of gameznflix, I'm starting to get some crappy games or sometimes they don't even fill my slots immediately. But I had a good damn run with them for $20 something bucks. I think I'll go with the Gamefly 1 out at a time plan with that site that lets you watch commercials and get $10 off your monthly bill. That'd be $5 a month...perfect for me

OK, I did. I doubt they'll get back to me tonight though. >_> I probably should've went with Gamefly. :/ Dammit. I'm already going to be spending a shitton of money on NiGHTS, SMG, SSB, Pokemans DP, etc. this year... I just wanted to play through the entirety of Super Paper Mario without spending any more money... :(
My wallet am cry.

brightspot? that does sound like a good deal

Gameznflix SUCKS, in my honest opinion. They ask you to prioritize the games and movies you want in numerical order and even if those games/movies have the same 'availability' status they ship them out of order. I've had Elder Scrolls Oblivion and Zelda: Twilight Princess in the top two spots for weeks but they keep shipping around them. Incredibly aggrivating AND slow.

Gamefly all the way.

my brother has had gnf for a little bit. hes had zelda and oblivion at the top of his list for weeks, and still has yet to receive them. when he made an inquiry into it, they wrote up a ticket about it, then a little later, they deleted the problem from their system. i had gamefly for a while, and besides the shipping times it was good. once the east coast center opens up, i might consider going back.

WickedLaharl said:

Yeah, brightspot...although I hear it takes like 1-2 months for them to credit your account, which is a bummer. But after that, $5 a month just for 1 out at a time, or $12 for 2 at a time.

I've still had great luck with GNF personally. Pittsburgh is a horrible distro spot if you live in the South.. that'd still be multiple days. Less than CA, but can't top Orlando and Kentucky.

Has anyone here tried Gamerang? I've heard NJ residents get games quickly with it.

It's great that Gamefly's opening up another distribution center, but I wouldn't want to sign up until that would definitely be available to me.

I've been with Gamerang for a couple months and so far its been pretty good. It's prices are about the same as gamefly but you get better shipping and availability (least on 360 games, for me anyway). Only thing I don't care for is the deposit for 3 out plans and above, but so far I like it more then gamefly and gameznflix.

I'm in VA and I just got the email today. check again.

GameFly is pretty nice so far.

A little uneven. I got sonic and returned it to the mailbox one Tuesday. The next THURSDAY I got an email saying they got it. I was so happy. However, I sent them Rainbow Six back and it took a week. So I guess it's fast return not activating all the time?

Great quality of the disks, always ship fast...even when "sort wait." Beautiful site....little expensive.

Fast Return only kicks in for me about half the time. Seems like it should either work always, or not at all; all these games are going back through the same PO.

Fast Return is entirely depending on your postman, so it's always YMMV. Mine always used to do it, but it's become less frequent lately.

I'm in MD and still didn't get a friggin email... grrrr. 4 games out bitches I demand priority!

Gamefly rocks..and it has the "keep it" feature that no other rental place has...the fact the prices on their games is so cheap if you keep them more than makes up for the monthly cost to join....I just wish they would do the same for hd dvd and blu ray movies. I woul be in heaven.

I went from Gamefly -> Gameznflix -> Gamerang.

So far Gamerang is by far the best. They have four distribution centers across the country and I have been able to get all the 360 games I've wanted so far (Lost Planet, Virtua Tennis 3, NBA Street, and Kameo) without any waiting.

They're definitely not the fastest--I have like a four day total turnaround even though they're in Minnesota and I'm in Wisconsin--but they aren't plagued with "Short Wait" like Gamefly and (especially) Gamenzflix.

Maybe it depends on the mailbox I use?

I live in NYC (116th street) and I have no idea where the post office is, so I guess I could bring it right there for faster times if I had any idea.

WHY THE HELL DOES GAMEZNFLIX TAKE SO LONG TO POST GAMES!!!

Super Paper Mario is still not listed, in fact, it is listed for the Gamecube. I added it to my queue in hopes of getting it, but still, rediculous

I just got a press release from GottaPlay.com, has anyone tried them? They have a rental and trading service.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp!

I live in South Florida so I don't know which service would be best for me to use. I don't need to rent movies since I'm quite satisfied with Netflix (next day for dvds).

I am more concerned about turn-around time, quantity of stock, and how quickly they stock new releases (in that order) instead of price.

Well the last 2 are easily Gamefly's advantage, the first one though varies because sometimes gamenflix is damn slow shipping them out, but since it will have a center closer to you if they ship it at a normal rate it would be Gamenflix.

Living in So. Fla, you'll be seeing 5-6 days to ship.. so as much as say 10-14 days from the point you ship the game, until the point you get a replacement if you use GameFly. That might go down a slight bit to Pittsburgh, but it's still a similar distance so I can't imagine any less than 8-9 total. For Gameznflix, it will probably be 4-5 at most to send it in and get a replacement.

As far as stock goes, you can't beat GF. Speed though, there is just no comparison if you're in FL to GnF.

Funny, I came into this thread to say I got SPM from Gamefly extremely fast. They said it would ship on the 11th, but it actually shipped yesterday and came in this morning (obviously I live close too). This is the second time this has happened; I think they used to wait 2 days after release to even ship new games, but it seems their shipping center has gotten faster.

Here is my experience with Short Wait Fly.

Crackdown
ESRB: Mature Short Wait
Not For Sale

Earth Defense Force 2017
ESRB: Teen Short Wait
Not For Sale

Bullet Witch
ESRB: Mature Short Wait
Not For Sale

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2
ESRB: Teen Short Wait
Not For Sale

Which has caused me to rent things that I don't really want until those games become available, like Enchanted Arms, Mario Party 7(which was defective), they also sent me the wrong game once, I rented SCDA for Xbox and they sent Spongebob Squarepants for PS2 instead, so my month with GF has not been a happy one, but I will stay aboard though because i'm stupid.

By the way, those games have been on Short Wait ever since they released, and I checked every day.

I live in S. FL. and went from Gamefly->Gamerang->Gameznflix.

Bottom line: They all suck.

Gamefly has the best stock but the most expensive and the SLOOOOWWWESSTT shipment. It would easily take 10 days or more from sending to receivng - and a lot of times I wouldn't get the game at all! They actually cancelled my subscription because their games didn't arrive to my mailbox.

Gamerang's the middle annoyer. Their stock isn't as good as gamefly and their shipping dpt is a little closer, but not much. Turnaround time was around 7 days.

Gameznflix. Great Price. Speedy shipping. They have a distro in Orlando so it takes one or two days for them to ship something. I even get shipping notifications on Saturday which is nice. They also have Blu-rays and HD DVD if you're into that sort of thing. Their selection however is ATROCIOUS. I had Rainbow Six Vegas for about 4 months (on "short wait" :lol) before they decided to send it. Super Paper Mario apparently isn't listed and even older games like Guitar Hero1 (game only) shows up as "On Order 11/8/2006". Oh I can't wait!. :p

I guess I lucked out on Gameznflix. Shipping turnover for me in California per game is about 3 days (2 days to receive a game, 1 day to ship it back). I've rented about 12 games since I've registered in Mid January, and I've only paid $10 for the service so far.
I'm in NY and I have the same experience. I have the 6 out at a time plan which is $250 a year or the equivalent of $21 a month. The mailer is scanned at the post office so they always send out a new game or movie within 1 day of putting the disc in the mail.

So...
Gamefly = $22/mo. for 2 games out at a time ($264 a year)
Gameznflix = $21/mo. for 6 games or movies out at a time ($250 a year)

My biggest complaints are that they don't put any descriptions on the movie sleeves like other movie rental services. Their HD DVD selection is very disappointing, they are very slow to get in new HD movies. The website could be a lot better.

I'm on the east coast and I have used Gamefly, and it's one of the worst services I have ever used. It took a game 4 days to get here and three days to send back. On the other hand, it takes GnF two or three days to get to my house. and when I want to return the game, it ships the same day I put it in my mailbox GNF for me has been amazing.

Thanks for the responses! Looks like I'll probably not be using any game rental services for the time being until they vastly improve.

I don't rent that often (I buy more) and usually Blockbuster gets a new release title the same week.

Has anyone experienced this yet? I sent a game back yesterday and today on my account they shipped out my next game with FastReturn:

What is FastReturn®?

In partnership with the U.S. Postal Service, GameFly has launched our FastReturn® service to improve turnaround time. This means improved shipping times for GameFly members!

FastReturn® will start the processing of your next game as soon as we receive confirmation from the U.S. Postal Service that a game has been returned in the mail. You may no longer need to wait until we receive the returned game in our warehouse before we send the next available game in Your GameQ!

NOTE: The USPS does not have scanning equipment in all locations. Therefore, not all GameFly members will be able to participate in this service.

How does FastReturn® work?

When you return a game in the mail, the U.S. Postal Service will scan the return and send a confirmation to us. We will then send the next available game in Your GameQ BEFORE we have received the game in our warehouse.

Your GameQ may temporarily show that you have more games out than your plan allows. This is because we are processing your next game via FastReturn®. Rest assured, Your GameQ will be updated as soon as we receive the returned game in our warehouse.

Quicker East coast turnover FTW!
