Crazy thoughts time...
1) What if the "standard" control for the Rev is actually the "traditional shell" -- and the remote-thing was designed to easily pop out and be used for special games? That would make a little more sense than it simply being an add-on, but by showing off JUST the wand device, Nintendo makes more of a splash. You'd lose no gameplay functions by having it in the shell, but it wouldn't be as easy to wield in 3D space... you could still do it, but it would have a bulky Wavebird shape.
2) Nintendo is unlikely to do this, but.... provide some velcro straps and attach a Revolution controller to each arm and leg -- you now have the rev tracking your four limbs in 3D space. You could directly control a game character through normal walking and punching.
3) The Dancemat thing someone mentioned... instead of a wired one, I can picture a simple plastic mat that slips on the floor. The mat is merely a piece of plastic -- but a Rev wand wired to each knee allows the system to track foot movements. Simply calibrate the system by standing on the extreme Left and Right position at the beginning of the game... and foot position can then be tracked. This would allow you to use -any- "dance mat" without an expensive extra controller... even an outline painted on the ground.
