Games that you wish never ended

Real PC RPGs. You feel so relaxed in them, so out of this world. Complete escapism. The scope is a natural virtue in them.

Fallout series, Baldur's Gate series, Planescape: Torment.

Shame, that good pc rpgs, from my point of view, ended 4 years ago.

The first thing that came to my mind was both Jet Set Radio games, but neither game really ends. In the context of the story, it made sense that things just kept going on. Otherwise, I could stand to play episodic releases of the Batman game Ubi Soft made out of Rise of Sin Tzu, just to see how they handle boss fights with other great Batman villans.

Deus Ex. Man I love that game. Even now when I play through I get this bittersweet feeling towards the final stages because I just do not want it to end! Apparently originally it was envisaged to be an even bigger game with more countries to visit and scenarios. I think I could have coped with that!

I'll second (or third) the Beyond Good & Evil sentiment. It seemed like that game was just getting going when it was over

Also, Banjo-Kazooie, because I love platformers, and IMO this is the best 3-d platformer ever made

Xenogears
Chrono Trigger
Metal Gear Solid
Kingdom Hearts
Onimusha

outcast from appeal/infogrames - i really liked the huge world and the gameplay. also the game ends with a sad ending :(

MGS3. I was nearly in tears at the end of that game because of the sad ending and because I had finished it. Konami granted my wish by making MGS2 and longer game than MGS2 by nearly doubling te length of the game, but I just couldn't get enough of the game. Its also really annoying when you realise that you have to wait another three years to play the next MGS game>:(

Link to the Past
Chrono Trigger
Super Mario 64
Super Monkey Ball
Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate II
Baldur's Gate: DA
Baldur's Gate: DA 2
Icewind Dale
Icewind Dale 2
Planescape: Torment

It makes me sad sometimes when great games end cause I get so attached to the characters.
Shenmue 2 is a game that I wish had kept going. The ending was awesome but all it did was make me want more of the series.
The Jak & Daxter series. It was kinda sad at the end of Jak3 when I realized that I wouldn't be playing any more of these games.
Halo and Halo2 both captured me so well and left me wanting more at the end (I did not have a problem with the ending of Halo2)
GTA 3 and GTA:SA - I enjoyed the game worlds so much in these games that I couldn't have put another 100 hours into each of them if there was more to do.

Not "never end", but be at least twice as long as they were:
Beyond Good & Evil
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
God of War

Technically it was never-ending, but should have had many more short-term goals added to stretch it out:
Spider-Man 2 the Movie the Game

1) Ninja Gaiden
Considering that this game was my GOTY for 2004 and I had so much fun with the fluid and smooth combat system, not to mention each level that I experienced was more fun than the previous; I wanted this game to keep going on and on.

2) Not MGS3
This was my runner up in the 2004 GOTY, I would say it was my number one game with Ninja Gaiden that I wish never ended, but I'm a sucker for a good story line, and well MGS3 had one of the best endings for game that I have ever seen. Even though I had alot of fun playing it, I love the ending. Actually to say that I love the ending is an understatement.
*salutes MGS3's gameplay, story and most importantly, its ending*

3)Valkyrie Profile
This game had a very interesting and fun battle system thanks to Tri-Ace. The game was ok for a RPG but the reason I nevered wanted this game to end is because the Ending was horrible. If anyone is currently playing it (doubtful but) take my advice dont finish it.

Shenmue 2 is good? I only played the first one, it was pretty cool except for the damn "working" part. Do they still have this in part 2?

There are no games that I wish never ended. Part of a satisfying gaming experience is to approach some sort of finality to the story; if the game continued indefinitely, I'd ultimately be disappointed.

Shenmue 2 is considerably better paced than the first game. There is one labor part, but it isn't nearly as tedious as the docks were. You can also skip time forward to plot points. So, if you liked 1, you'll love 2. It's just better all around, except for the goddamn voice work...

lol but it doesn't end lol

also, God of War. It's one of my favorites easily, but I wanted it to be tons longer. How? I don't know, because the story is perfect the way it is, I just want more. I want God of War to be longer and I want a GoW on PSP and GoW 2 and GoW next-gen, all right now.

KoTOR and KoTOR II... I want to really become a Sith Lord...and crush people with my legions... PlaneScape... great writing... Fallout II.... Hope III is half as good...

Most times I'm happy for a great game to end because I look forward to playing it again with increased skills and knowledge.

Super Metroid
A Link To The Past
Ocarina of Time
Metroid Prime
Resident Evil 4
Halo 2 was a great game that ended incredibly abruptly, but we already knew that.

Shenmue 1

Not that it was too short, but I was surprised so little had really happened in the 20 or so hours I was playing it. All this to get on a boat?

Shenmue 2 was of similar lenght, but you felt like you accomplished more during the playthrough, probably because you can do more and visit totally different locales (as opposed to being stuck in Dobuita).

Super Mario Sunshine, just because the ending was pretty weak while the rest of the game, especially the platforming levels, was awesome.

Good thread.

Shenmue (technically wishing 2 to never end since 1 and 2 were the same game split up)
Grandia 2 (I loved the characters and the battle system is still unbeaten)
Resident Evil 4 ('nough said)
Wind Waker
Outcast
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Jet Set Radio

Well, there are probably a few games I could list but there's one that immediately springs to mind. It made me think in terms of "saving" the game...I didn't want to play too much each session, because I was afraid it would end too early. :(
The game is Klonoa 2. I loved it, I loved being in that world, it was super-fun and engaging gameplay. I wanted more, all the time. When I finally finished it, I found every little secret in it...and I rarely do that with games. Even today, I occasionally replay some of my favorite levels in the game, just to remind myself of that wonderful feeling.

Psychonauts, let me explore the campers minds after I recover them, dammit.
Grandia II. It did end too abruptly. Wish it had gone on longer.
Shenmue II
Beyond Good & Evil. It ended right as it was going full swing. I hope they get the sequel out.
Star Fox 64 as well. Short, but I guess if it was longer, I wouldn't have gone through it so many times.

I recently finished Chrono Cross and as soon as I finished it I was dissapointed that it was over. I felt like they could continue the story, but mainly I wish i could've just kept playing through the game and have it never end. Anyone else have that happen to them as well?
First game that came into my mind seeing this thread.

Every good rpg. I feel so sad after knowing the characters that I won't see them again :( Sometimes I just replay the game but it's still sad :(

That's the sign of a good RPG (I get the same feeling from a good book too).

I'll never get the hate KOTOR II gets. I actually found that game to be better than the first but most people disagree. There are some things the first game did better, but overall and ESPECIALLY the story is so much better than the first game. Kreia is one of the best characters in any game I played. I still can't fathom allt he layers to her character and her voice actor is freaking awesome.

It's a tad on the easy side but that is most likely due to you be basically a demi-god the last 1/3 of the game. Dark side jedi's especially.

I'm going to assume you got the A ending.

It took me four years to beat this game, not because it was hard, but because it took so long to get to the meat of the story. After something finally takes place, you're thrust towards the end and the game shits the ending. BTW the dragon boss, two bosses from the final boss in A ending, was hard as a mother fucker, even with PAR buffed characters.

Game had great music though. I bought it because I loved Star Ocean Second Story so much. Thats a game I wish would never end.

Hell yeah...that motherfucker took some extreme strategy to kill. If you fucked up on any part of the plan you needed to beat him (mine involved using bow Valkyrie to ensure max hits, guts+auto item all around, and using two archers and a mage with Celestial Star) then he'd either make you eat meteors or would just heal all of his damage in one shot. You had to effectively kill him in one turn. :\ Intense, but it can take years off your life
