Games you've feigned sickness to play

Being home due to illness today, you know, incapacitated enough not to work, but not so incpacitated not te be able to pick up a controller ;), I was thinking about catching up on some of my games. I have Killzone waiting to be finished, and I definitely didn't feel like palying it earlier, since my dizziness would've become vomit-inducing had I tried to add KZ's special brand of magic. Then I was thinking, maybe I could go out and buy a short game to wile away those uncomfortable hours - I've always wanted to play Another Code.

Then I was remembering back to school days, and other such times. I remember, well, not being THAT sick, but reasonably ill - I could've gone to school, but I didn;t, and instead, I stayed home and plaeyd Secret of Mana all over again. I also distinctly remember playing games such as Majora's Mask, Perfect Dark, and Metroid when I was supposed to be somewhere else.

So ahs anyone else wagged school, or pretended to be sick to play games?

I only did it twice. Once in elementary school to play Castlevania and once in high school to play Phantasy Star II (a friend let me borrow it at lunch and I called home immediately with some pathetic excuse).

Halo2 and Madden 2006. I have a job where I work from home and my headoffice is on the other side of the country so it's kinda easy to get away with.

Only games I've ever done that for are FFVII and FFIX. I had to have pretended to be sick for 4 or 5 days back in 6th grade for FFVII. 2, maybe 3 days for FFIX in 9th grade, I think.

I might have done it for Super Mario 64 too, back in the 5th grade. Not sure..

Ocarina of Time. If I remember correctly it came out on a Tuesday... yep, I missed most of my classes that day, called in sick for work, and was pretty much glued to the game until I finished it.

I did have to cut my zelda-thon short to take a huge exam that week..I think the exam was the day right after release day. I studied as much as I could the weekend before, but I was completely unable to study the night before the test.. that blasted gold cartridge was sitting there taunting me.. it was kind of stupid to put Zelda before schoolwork, so I was worried about the test, but luckily I got an A so it worked out OK =)

Also, the day Super Mario 3 came out was a school day if I remember correctly.. it wasn't a birthday or on any major holidays, but my mom still bought it for me, and surprised me by waking me up so the first thing i saw was that yellow SMB3 box. I was so damn excited!!
That was one very agonizing school day for an elementary school kid, trust me..

A pharmacy just happened to be next to the EB Games I preordered Halo 2 at. Fun times AND a legitimate excuse to get cold medicine.

Never really had to miss a day.

I lucked out on Dreamcast launch and had been suspended from school. Before that I got sick from food poisoning and was able to play my brand new collectors ocarina of time.

First game I faked being sick to stay home and play on my mom's ugly old Curtis Mathis set was Pitfall! on the Atari 2600 back in '82. Also did that for Raiders of the Lost Ark for the A2600. After than, I can't remember any other games beside the original Castlevania (NES), Legend of Zelda I & II (NES), Phantasy Star I & II (SMS/Genny), Faery Tale Adventure I (Amiga), Stunt Car Racer (Amiga), Starflight I (DOS), Populous (Amiga), Wasteland (Apple ][), Prince of Persia (Apple ][), and Super Mario Bros. 3 (Famicom) where I faked to stay home from school and/or work.

Chrono Trigger. 7th grade, 1995. Faked sick for an entire week.

whoah, you must have some lenient parents. I could get away with *one* feigned sick day, maybe in the whole school year. But consecutive days? I would have to have been terminal with a doctors note or had some broken bones :p

I called in sick to work when Morrowind was released. I get paid anyways.

How'd you get suspended on Sept. 9th? Isn't that like only a week or so into school? My first day of school this year is Sept. 9th.

hell where I am some people started school this week. It differs.

I lived 2 blocks away from my highschool, and had PE (physical education) right before my hour long lunch break. One dark November, a little game called Zelda: Ocarina of Time came out. I wasn't looking forward to it at all, but once I rented it, I friggin fell in love, still my favorite videogame of all time.

Anyway, since I lived so close to my school, and since I hated PE (I was really fat back then), and since the prospect of skipping PE would allow me over 2 hours straight to play Zelda.. well, it was a fairly easy decision to make. My best friend was in the same PE class as me, and for the first two weeks (which would be 5 classes of PE), I got him to cover for me, telling the teacher I was sick. By the beginning of the third week, it was fairly evident to everyone I was skipping class, so apparently when my teacher asked where I was, my buddy just said, "He's skipping this class to play a videogame called Zelda".

So I skipped another.. I think 4 straight PE classes before I'd beat the game. I finally showed up after missing nearly a month straight of PE classes. The first class back, we were all lined up against the gym wall as he called attendance;

"Kevin McKecknie... present... Andrew Norser... present... Michael Orlando.... oh, wow, Mr. Orlando! How nice of you to join us... so, did you beat Zelda yet?"

I froze up, since I didn't know my asshole friend had told him WHY I was skipping class. Fucking jerk.

This is sad... but in 7th Grade, Rival Schools for the PSX and Vandel Heart II I don't know why but I couldn't stop playing Rival schools the mini games were awsome "HOOOMMMMERRUNNNN!!!

OHH and Final Fantasy 8, there was a supply shortage in my area and people who preordered had to wait 3 weeks to get their copy, lucky me my brother had friends with connections and they let us borrow a copy for a couple of days during those couple of days I was overcome with a high fever and hacking caugh :D All in Grade 7/8 :lol

None in the last 15 years :P

But Elite and Autoduel, Ahhhh, I seem to remember pulling a "Sickie" for both of those.

I had the flu for about 10 days, more than enough time to play through FF7 and FF8 whilst hacking up snot that was thick and the size of quarters.

First game I feigned sickness to play was the original Dragon Warrior for the NES. To be fair, though, I was actually sick at first, then the game arrived in the mail so I faked being sick for a week longer to play it.

I faked being sick for Phantasy Star II, as well.

The first KoTOR... and was really thinking about doing it for Dungeon Siege II... :lol

My parents were cool (irresponsible) when I was a kid. Games I got out of school for:

Super Mario Bros. 3
SNES launch
Chrono Trigger
Zelda: OoT

And when the DC launched my mom told me that they were sold out, but when I got home from school I found the system box, NFL 2k, Soul Callibur and Sonic in front of the TV to play. Good times...

The only game I remember faking sick for was Castlevania SotN. And, you know, it was worth it.

I once played through Sonic 2 with a really bad case of the flu. Running through those rotating tubes in Metropolis made me puke my guts out -- but I kept at it!

FF3(VI) on SNES

or Star Wars Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight on PC....

Goddamn I loved that game.

I loved Dark Forces one and two...

Let's see...Snake Eater, The Wind Waker, Halo 2, Resident Evil 4...I can't remember too many from back in the day, but I know I stayed home to play those.

Oh, and by the way, welcome ToyMachine to the 3,000 post club :)

I faked sick to stay home and play FF6 the day after it was released.

While I played I ate an entire box of ice cream bars and got sick for real.

*cue "just desserts" pun

Many times I've feigned sickness for other reasons, and ended up playing games the whole day, though the only time I think I did solely because of a game was Final Fantasy Tactics.

WAY to many to list....most of the time, playing the game was only half the reason, i usualy was "sick" so i didnt have to do a test or hand in an something i didnt do (or would do ...) and wanted to play games instead....

i missed school a lot :P

Original was Ocarina of Time as far as I remember. But actually, I wasn't even feigning sickness. I just outrightly bunked. I remember hiding out in my room when my dad came home to grab some lunch. Good times. :lol

More recently I took 3 days off to play Resident Evil 4, that and I was having problems at home and was pretty depressed and really tired.

Mike works: Yeah, but it makes an excellent story!!

Oh yeah, I was meant to be writing up some stuff, and instead, I spent about a week playing Shenmue. then I spent the rest of time on and off tending for me Seaman...

Never really. I'm at university now and there are the occasional hours we skip to play PES or Halo with some people. Don't even have to skip anything now to play a game on my psp :lol Just make sure you don't attract too much attention.
