Realizing that this thread is indirectly causing my backlog to grow even deeper.
back in my day, zelda is considered as rpg. if yes, my first rpg will be zelda
although technically lotta people won't recognize it as rpg, but back before, rpg is when you are playing medieval or fantasy games in my locale : ))
welp, as I grew, i understand why many people not considered it as RPG, because when people heard RPG mostly turnbased (before ARPG or action games infused with rpg element is widely played two decade ago)
by today standard, almost everything has rpg element now
Yeah we can consider it an RPG, why not!I too am from the time where Zelda was considered an RPG but I'm not sure if it had changed.
The first RPG I completed was link to the past on my SNES. Love that game.
Ultima was great…unfortunately my family Packard Bell wasn't up to snuff to play them much. Only game I could get to consistently play was Kings Quest IV, but my God do I miss that game.Ultima IV

Yea it was. I was the popular kid on the street because we had the PC lolLoved me some King's Quest. I only played the first one since my PC couldn't handle anything else. Getting a new PC back then was as rare as buying a new house. lol
LttP still blows Ocarina of Time out of the water in my mind. So good!Yeah we can consider it an RPG, why not!
I did play Zelda 1, Zelda 2, and LTTP before I played Earthbound.
The Legend of Zelda (NES)

The golden cartridge. The coolest thing, as a kid. I always got stuck in Zelda 1 and had no idea where to go. The music and sound effects always pulled me in, though. I played it dozens and dozens of times, even though I knew I couldn't beat it.
The Legend of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES)

Zelda 2 was insanely hard and I'd quit after 5 minutesI still can't beat it to this day. Another incredible soundtrack, though. I have a lot of respect for this game.
The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past (SNES)

My friends and I called it Zelda 3. My god. Talk about a masterpiece. First epic game I've ever beaten and can still play it to this day. It's probably my favorite game of all time. I really hope they remake this in the style of the newer Link's Awakening games.
I believe Zelda always had the distinction of being classified as an "action rpg". To my mind this meant you didn't have use numerical stats to get stronger but items/armor/hearts/ you would find on the journey. In other words not leveling up in the traditional sense of the RPG mechanic.I too am from the time where Zelda was considered an RPG but I'm not sure if it had changed.

Was and still is an awesome game
My wife is intimidated by the RPGs I play, but she can wipe the floor with Pokemon. She doesn't realize she's playing an RPG lolThis is the one. Perfect baby's first RPG (not in a derogatory way).
