Games you've recently beaten

I don't believe you have to play a game to the very end to enjoy it, but what are some of the games you've found to be great enough to warrant playing to the very end?

In the last couple of days I've finished up SotC (PS2) and Zelda: Four Swords Adventure (NGC). SotC was OKAY, but after the first half of the game I really only finished playing to see the ending since it wasn't all that long (under 10 hours total). Nice atmosphere with some lazy controls (which are NOT a requirement of "epic" battles or "mood"). I played Zelda over the course of several months, and finally finished up the last level the other day. Fun game that let me play through in short bursts when I had the time.

Other games I've been playing recently:

Rygar (PS2): Near the end of the game.
Castlevania: CoD (NDS): Near the end of the game.
God of War (PS2): About halfway through.
Mario Kart (NDS): Finished all of the 50cc cups.
SMT: DDS1 (PS2): Just started.
Dragon Quest 8 (PS2): Just started.

Hmm. I'm at the last boss in Castlevania: DoS.. I haven't played ot for a month, though. So I guess it's Genji for the PS2. Yeah, that's the last game I played through.

Oh, I could post a gigantic list of games where I made it to the final level or boss, and then put the game on the shelf to sit forever, or sold it off. My biggest offender was probably Suikoden 3... 57 hours and made it to the final battle, and that's where my game save has been sitting for the last couple of years.

Well recently I just beat both Tales of Symphonia (GCN) which I thought was good just because of the battle system. The story was okay, but I could predict it from a mile away. Then I've beaten Mario Kart DS which isn't saying much. But I'm having tons of fun online. Then there is Sam and Max that I've finally beaten. This is absolutely hilarious. I wish Lucas Arts could go back and make more of these like the Grim Fandango and another Sam and Max. Sam and Max was so mind bendingly hard and random....... that it was awesome. :)

Last game I finished was Call of Duty 2: Big Red One. Not too long (13 missions), I enjoyed it quite a bit. Going to try Call of Duty 2 for X360 today, will be an interesting comparison.

Beat RE4
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory
F.E.A.R. almost beat it but the game was getting meh so I deleted it, nice gunfights and thats about it -_-
Jak III < My GOTY :D

Starting Shadow of the Colossus

I always play my games to completion. If a game doesn't keep my interest enough to finish, I get rid of it. I also tend to get 100% on each game, although I'm trying really hard to defeat that particular disorder.

At any rate, the recent games I've beaten:

Spartan: Total Warrior - Pretty neat beat-em-up with lots and lots of enemies and allies. Enemies block and dodge like crazy, so dealing with groups away from your allies takes a bit of thought. Unlocked everything except one piece of concept art.

We Love Katamari - I like what they did with some of the oddball level variations, especially the racetrack level. I used the rubberband trick to get the million roses, coz there's NO FUCKING WAY. :P Managed to set it aside instead of going for 100% completion on the item list.

Heroes of the Pacific - Fucking awesome air combat, a truly great game. One of my favorites this gen. Beat everything 100% on Ace difficulty. BUY HEROES OF THE PACIFIC!

God of War - Beat it on Spartan difficulty, then beat it on God diffuculty. Unlocked everything, fantastic game.

Currently I'm playing MX vs. ATV Unleashed, and the game is alternating between tons of fun and SNAP THE FUCKING DISC IN HALF ARRRRGGGHHHHH. I still love the rhythm based jump gameplay, and the track design is excellent, but some of the tracks are fucking brutal and the AI is magically pulling off shit I just can't get a handle on. Then there's the retarded challenge races where you race a bunch of dumb crap that isn't an ATV like golf carts because extreme sports have become infected with this Jackass shit. >:| I also don't think I'm going to bother with the MX half of this game, since I only bought this game as an ATV Off-Road Fury fan, so I guess this will be the first game I'll have not "beaten" but still kept in, I dunno, years. :X

Shadow of the Colossus

I'm pretty bad about not playing a game to completion, but I couldn't stop playing that one.

castlevania DS: great played it to death got to the end on the other mode, save file corrupted. beat it again anyway.

advancewars DS: great. beat campaign have s ranked half of one mode of war room. will go back to this for years, had to stop cause I got...

tony hawks DS: awesome awesome awesome. Its made me a tony hawks player again (not since THPS) graphics suit the system perfectly and its as good as THPS but with more moves.

soon to be mario kart/tony hawks combo when I get my online adapter. that should hold me off for a while.

Last game I've beaten: Shadow of the Colossus

Games beaten this year that I can remember:

Resident Evil 4
God of War
Devil May Cry 3
Brother In Arms 1
Star Wars Republic Commando
Ninja Gaiden
Ratchet and Clank 2
Ratchet and Clank 3
Killer 7
Wario Ware Twisted
GTA: San Andreas
Burnout Revenge
Burnout 3

NDS: Castlevania (best ending, first play through) and Nintendogs (just got to a satisfactory point, as it doesn't really end)
GBA: Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones x3 (working on the x4th time ;) )
GCN: Metroid Prime 2, Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat (w/ all golds, no platinums), and DDR w/ Mario on Normal (want to get back to it, but Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance says NO! :lol )

On an unrelated side note, I'm only in the mid-20's on Fire Emblem, but I have to say that I am beyond ecstatic on how well it has translated over to the GameCube. The emotions, story, and gameplay are all some of the best I have ever seen. The only bad part is that it will have to end after the final chapter (and subsequent play-throughs). :( I really like how Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones lets you continue playing after you "beat" the game to level up your people and
gain new party members that you fought/saw in the main game, including people who "died." :D
In short, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance is the best game I've played this year, by a long shot. :)

Last night I beat some game I got used a few weeks ago. Devil Am CRy or somthing. I heard 2 sucked so I'm going to try to get 3 soom.

finished it up on sunday, and i second the "wtf" :lol

fucking dreadful ending.

Painful abscence of narrative in the game didn't help matters either.

Who are the Combine?
How did they take over Earth?
Why are the aliens from HL1 now your friends?
Who is G-Man?
Has Gordon been cryogenically frozen?

Zero answers!

Infact the lack of Gordon interacting with the characters was kind of absurd in this game, much more painfully so then HL1 where the story basically tells itself.

Beat the past 4 months:
Half Life 2 (PC)
Star Ocean 3 (PS2)
Shadow Hearts (PS2)
Shadow Hearts 2 (PS2)
GTA: LCS (PSP)

Shadow of the Colossus (PS2)

Currently working on:
The Movies (PC)
Mario Kart DS

In Backlog:
Digital Devil Saga 1,2 (PS2)
The Warriors (PS2)
Metroid Prime 2 (GC)

Will buy after backlog:
Dragon Quest 8 (PS2)
Suikoden Tactics (PS2)
Radiata Stories (PS2)
Indigo Prophecy (PS2)
SOCOM (PSP)

I should be ready for next gen about mid next year I'd say. :lol

Metroid Prime Pinball (Beat impact crater and saw the credits)
Super Mario Kart (150CC GOLD)
Shadow of the Collosus

In the order of more recent

I agree to some of that. But I recently discovered that half life plots make sense and are fairly complete. For some reason value didn't feel like telling us any of it. In HL2 most of whats happened is shown, but in tiny blurbs and on newspapers on the wall. Some of the plot is only said in the HL history and art books. Did you know that the Combine had nothing to do with HL1? They were drawn here by the portal you make in HL1. I didn't know until i read the book you only got with the limited edition my freind got. WWTTFF!! I would have spoilered that, but you won't find it out playing the game.

Cant find it now, but search for half life plot websites. Some of your questions are said, including Why the Xen are now helping you.

The Mark of Kri. I only finished it because I knew that would be the only way to vent my frustration with the last part of the game, not because it was a great game.

O-o. I LOVED Mark of Kri. I thought the lvls were a bit too long but thats it. I had a much harder time with the mid lvls, the ending was a breeze. I'm playing Rise of the Kasai now. It's ok. More chars, faster fighting pace, but alot of the same. The death of the online co-op really killed it. If I could have a real person help me instead of the shaDdy a.i. I would love that game to death.

Beat Kameo last night. Overall good game, kinda underwealming final boss. Not easy, just
he was shown to be enormous in the cutscenes, but when you face him he's only twice the size as Kameo, wtf?
but I've already complained about this.

Well, the frustation mainly came from the stupidly longwinded midgame animations (particularly when switching weapons). I loved using the axe, but I hated the bow. The last level had several rooms with archers and melee enemies, and because of the animation, it was hard to switch from axe to bow to shoot down the archers, and then continue fighting the other enemies.

Ending was very weak too, imo.

I loved the style of the game though, especially the waterpainting like pictures that 'warped' into ingame gfx at the start of each new level.

Still, I wouldn't touch Rise of Kasai with a ten feet pole.

The last game I played to completion was The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (GBA) earlier this year. I have a bad habit of starting a game, getting halfway through, and then stopping. Not with this one, though.

About 50% of my total gameplay time was spent doing the Kinstone fusings, which was a system I actually liked a lot. This system would've been painful if not for the extremely useful and updated map, which showed where all your goodies were waiting. Minish Cap was an easier game overall than the GBC Seasons/Ages titles (also great), but it was so fun and polished that I didn't care.

It's definitely one of the best games on the system. I can't wait to see if they do a DS Zelda eventually, although with online being such a big focus at the moment, I have a feeling they'll do a Four Swords-style online title before they do a dedicated single-player adventure.

Recently:

Mario Kart DS....well all 50cc & 100cc anyway
GUN
King Kong

Just Started:
Trapt
Smackdown! vs Raw 2006
True Crime: NYC

I've beaten more titles in the past 2 months than the previous 2 years.

Trace Memory - so-so game. it was about as expected, but I hoped for more.

Advance Guardian Heroes - considering i hated original GH, I was surprised at how good this one was. they changed the game so much that it's actually a new kind of beat 'em up. i've got no complaints. went through it on normal and hard. superhard is insanely difficult. i haven't beaten the first stage.

Halo 2 - while the first halo was an awesome experience, i couldn't get into this one. it felt different the whole way through. i think it's stupid that people complain about the ending, yet ignore the mediocre blast-fest direction this game took.

Mario Kart DS - my favorite Mario Kart game. the multiplayer/wifi options are just bonus.

Gunstar Super Heroes - it was fun to play through the first time, but playing it through again has made me rethink my position. in terms of cohesiveness in game design, it's actually worse than Astro Boy. i like it more than AB and that's only because i like run & gun more than beat 'em up. both games are entirely skippable though. my theory is that people are so starved for 2d games like this that they'll praise any decent effort made. i say, better to not waste your time on merely competent.

Conker Live & Reloaded - also a surprise for me. the humor was pretty hit 'n miss, but i thought the game was pretty clever throughout. i mean, when you cannot even damage bosses with your regular weapon, and have to figure out how to use the environment around you to hurt him, then it becomes a thinking man's game. the control is somewhat loose and imprecise as platformers tend to be, but the variety of play styles and puzzles won me over.

Just opened and aiming to topple Panzer Dragoon Orta.

Amen brother, but they dropped the ball with the ending I'm itching for a sequel with the same characters(sure I want new ones too, but some returning characters please:)) I love that cast.

btw Awesome Soundtrack :D

stuck at the parents with only my psp... i've beaten vs mode twice now, and finally got 999,999 points in the challenge mode :)

The last game I finished was Rez. Before that, it was Paper Mario 2. I don't finish many games. I'm hoping to finish Warioware Twisted! by riding the public transit as much as I can, and I'm making it an imperative to finish Valkyrie Profile at least once - even if I get a bad ending.

the last game i have beaten, was stuart little 3: the big photo adventure.

Sweet as soon as I finish up this amazing Winnie the Pooh game I'm moving onto that one. :D

I beat GUN on the Xbox last week. Hit 100% completion in a rental. Such a great game. So much potential. But just not enough game.

Sakura Taisen V - Mostly garbage. A fundamental series implosion.

G-Darius, Taito Memories PS2 - Still good today, and even better in this version. PS1 version is completely obsolete with this out.

Sexy Parodius - Never played this before, seemed pretty interesting. Is the PS1 version any good? Seems like it would have suffered in the conversion.

I just beat Shadow of the Colossus a week ago, which is a shame because the game was so good it was painful to end it.

In the past month or so....

Perfect Dark Zero
Call of Duty 2
Castlevania: LOI
Rygar
Soul Calibur III (100% unlocked)
Shadow of the Colossus

Beat Silent Hill 2 recently, but only one ending so far (water). I really can't think of logical things I could do to get different endings. Not decided yet, if I should look up the solution or not.

Earlier: ICO.
Still earlier: MGS3
That's it for this year, I think.

Ah, forgot Super Mario Sunshine.
