GameSpot: Mario Superstar Baseball Review

Fuzzy

I would bang a hot farmer!
8.0
If not for the baserunning blunders and some misadventures while playing defense, Mario Superstar Baseball might have been yet another in a long line of superb arcade sports games from Nintendo. As it is, the game is still a lot of fun and offers plenty of charm to offset those gaffes while still presenting itself as a great pick-up-and-play baseball game. Depending on how many innings you set each game for, contests can go for 10 or 15 minutes, making Mario Superstar Baseball an ideal choice if you want satisfy a quick hardball fix.
It sounds like a title that I'll pick up (from reading the entire review) once it drops in price.

It's a quality rental to play with friends, just like Tennis was. I'm hoping soccer will be a must buy.

Power Tennis was way more than a rental, that was without a doubt a must buy. Probably my favorite arcade sports game this gen. So much replay.

I bought Power Tennis and liked it a lot.

Skipping over baseball (though the comerical is great!)

but JUST from what I've played from Soccer at E3, it was awsome!!!

MUST BUY

Def. best of the sports titles

Power Tennis was great, except Power Defense shots broke it. Any time in the upper levels against the CPU that you got close to winning a serve, they'd user a Power Defense shot from ANYWHERE in their area, even it was completely behind them, and 99% of the time they'd be able to return it. (Funny that one of the characters I prefered, Daisy, was one of the few who could "fail" if the distance was too long.) Within a few volleys, they'd have another one ready to cover their arse.

I know you can turn off the Power Shots in the options, but that didn't affect the Tours, just the seperate matches. And to be honest, I didn't mind the Offensive Power Shots, the Defensive ones were just way too capable. Even just limiting their effective range for most of the characters would've been so much better.

You could always use a power offensive shot to counter their power defensive shot, and generally guarantee a point.

Exactly why I thought it was a great rental. Single player was ok IMO. With friends these are must buy games, but I don't have friends over everyday and I can't justify buying them for the single player aspects. Of course I feel the same about most "extreme" sports games like NFL Street.

True dat. If you liked Sega Soccer Slam, you will LOVE Mario Strikers. It plays largely the same way, with a few character-specific powerups thrown in. Word is that Nintendo even licensed the Soccer Slam engine from Big Blue Box. My hours of experience with that game paid off, I was owning fools left and right on the E3 demo. :D

Sounds promising.
