Mario Kart World Review thread

I don't have the game. But another website I frequent has lists of missing basic features and just weird choices. And that character selection screen... Does not scream new and improved.
Like what? I've heard people complain about the intermission tracks but not much else.

The open world being empty ass, apparently even worse rubber banding than Mario kart 64, a stupid way of unlocking extra characters, battle games being lame. Again I don't have the game, but this doesn't seem like new and improved.

def missing features. I wish they'd divided the regions in the world map and show how many medallions and P Switch you have left in them, just to hint at you. Like they did with the character costumes and ? switches.

Mario Kart 8 launched with 32 tracks, 30 characters, lacked Battle Mode, 200CC/Mirromode, a lot of vehicles - it took 10 years for it to get to its current state.
Mario Kart World is likely to get at least a comparable amount of post launch support likely leaning more into the Open World aspects of the game and the multiplayer experience.

Right now we are looking at the vanilla game, and 80+ is a fair score considering how casual multiplayer games rarely hit 90+. A lot of the lower scores are because of the price / empty open world - rather than the key gameplay elements or how fun it is to play with friends online/locally. When the majority of new owners actually paid $50 for it the price shouldn't really be an issue.

To be such a system seller I reckon critical reception vs actual player recepetion has diverged a lot, you don't sell a record breaking amount of systems on the back of just a "decent" game. In the end World is what Nintendo reckons will sell its more expensive online service and game chat to early addopters. They will be continuing to build upon this solid foundation for the next decade.

No doubt for them the target is to end up close in terms of overall sales to Mario Kart 8 provided that the Switch 2 is also 8+ years without a successor.

Damn, that's a long list lol. Hope they are able to improve it and that they do so for free with some updates instead of DLCs.

Yes. Some are subjective, and some are definitely not, especially with decades of preparation.

And the following is not personally to you, but this attitude of "the game launched with nothing! But don't worry, dlc/updates will fix it" is absolutely terrible. It allows these giant corps to just fling out every turd unpolished/unfinished to then "make better/improve" when the money tap is already on, usually with way too much time taken. It's horrible.

Weeb level 1000. I think Danjin44 Danjin44 and I found our closest competition.

Just got this today and done a few cups. Are most of the tracks just transition with a straight rally type stage? I can't see myself replying this with tracks lacking unique character and not having proper laps.

If I can buy all the additional tracks I may just buy 8 deluxe... not a great feeling after 10 years and spending £420 to play a new Mario Kart.

Today I learned that you can destroy a blue shell before it it hit you if you have that noise thingy picked ( the one that makes a surrounding noise around you )

But, How do people do flip while driving or drive through walls ? ( not rail driving since that is automatic )

1. a feather
2. hold down the drift key while driving straight and when you get a boost you can jump (left, right, etc)
3. From a successful jump using the drift key that gives you a boost

There are number of items that can be use to survive blue shell, like speed mushroom (if you use it in right time) and ghost.

In all the previous versions, so presumably MK World too you can also time driving into a small item (banana, rebound hit of a green shell, etc) so that in the tiny invulnerability recovery window if the blue shell(Spiney shell) hits you, you are invulnerable to its effects.

Driving off the track can work too for invulnerability timing but the recovery time for being craned back onto track might be the same or not far off blue shell recover time, only potentially giving a saving of a boost start if perfectly pressing accelerate exactly as your wheels drop on the track - or at least that has been a technique in prior versions.
