Not to be confused with Rockman Rockman!

Capcom's been going back to its roots a lot lately. The storied publisher is redoing the original Resident Evil for the Nintendo DS, readying the retro compilation Capcom Classics Collection for release later this month, and now remaking the first games in its two most popular RockMan series (Mega Man and Mega Man X to American audiences) for the PSP, according to the latest issue of Famitsu.

This isn't the first news of a RockMan RockMan for the PSP, but is the first detailed explanation of the title, which is actually a remake of the original 1987 NES release that started the series. The game features familiar (albeit noticeably cuter) graphics redrawn with 3D polygons, but the gameplay has stayed strictly 2D. RockMan RockMan also has a stage edit mode, where players can create their own missions and trade them with their friends. No release date has been set for the game yet.

The second title, Irregular Hunter X, is a remake of the SNES game Mega Man X from 1993. The game features visuals redrawn in 3D like in RockMan RockMan, but the characters here have a more mature look to them. In addition, the game features arranged stages and new modes. Irregular Hunter X is slated for release in Japan in winter 2005.

Both RockMan RockMan and Irregular Hunter X will be on playable display at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show. Visitors will be able to download a demo of RockMan RockMan if they bring their PSP to the show.

:D

For all those who complained - mature Rockman for you :lol

What the fuck is happening at Capcom ? They seem to be doing all WE WANT ! :) Now add some substantial content to SFZ3 Upper Upper like...ehem...SFZ2 backgrounds+music...ehemm and I'd be happy!

Good. It isn't like I need TEH MATURE in the game.

I just don't want Megaman to look like something out of the Teletubbies.

Awesome!!!

Extreme G&G, Rockman Rockman, and now this. I love Capcom.

Now we need SFAC and a new Puzzle Fighter and we're set.

Can't wait for TGS. :D

Wait, is Rockman Rockman a remake of the very first Mega Man, or is it a remake of the first Megaman spinoff's (X or Z or whatever)? I haven't played the original Mega Man in over ten years, and if Capcom is remaking it, I will so purchase that on day one!

It's the remake of the very first one.

Oh shit that's awesome. I see my question was kind of stupid actually, because it states pretty clearly that Irregular Hunter X is a remake of the first Mega Man X title, the one on the SNES right?

Hot damn I think I'm buying both.

Cool, but they better be budget titles.

And I'd like to see something original for PSP from Capcom. Show DMC or RE already. Enough with the ports/remakes.

It just seems silly if this is 40 bucks for a simple remake with better graphics and an arranged mode, when the X Collection comes out this fall for 30 bucks. Weird timing.

Of course I'll get it, heh.

Goku Makaimura is an original game.

Wow.... Some PSP owners seem to be latching on to any psp game been released, even games that were released over a decade ago and could be downloaded for free or bought legally for a much lower price :lol

But... I can't download a fully remade Rockman X with new modes and visuals and Rockman 1 with new visuals and a level editor. If I can, that's cool. Just link them for me so I can start downloading, 'cause 56k takes a long time with these things.

I think it's more about PSP vs. DS. I was complaining almost as much about the ports on GBA as I am with ports on PSP. But really, we are getting a lot of current console ports on PSP that cost more than their superior console versions. No one finds that.. shitty? I'm really anticipating RE, DMC, FF7, and GTA. I just think stuff like Juiced is a bit much, that's all.

Stuff like THIS is at least interesting. Cool new graphics, music, arranged levels, level creator? That's kickass, but I don't think it'd be worth $40, that's all.

Are you using the well "GBA has ports too" argument againts someone who neither owns a DS or GBA. Sorry but I actually agree with you. Try again. :lol

You know, at this rate, the PSP is easily going to surpass the GBA in ports and remakes by 2007.

Capcom is testing the waters first.

With ports and remakes.
[man...GAF is losing it =/]

Before they take out the big guns that will cost a lot to develop: like original Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, and Onimusha titles.

This should be obvious ladies and gents--although luckily, majority here don't care and are glad that Capcom is supporting the 2D gameplay style on the PSP medium. Whatever it may be, enchanced port, remake, retelling etc...Which is good, I agree.

I don't like ports, but I do like remakes. I love replaying games I loved in a new vision. Remakes are something I generally only like in the videogame world, too.

Well, maybe.

With GBA it was like "cool, a port/remake of a 10 year old game in handheld form, with extras for only $30". With PSP it's just ports of current console games, just not as good in terms of graphics or controls (MAYBE with some extras here and there, but sometimes it scales back like in SSX4, giving you regular levels instead of one big streaming mountain) for MORE money sometimes.

Unless you play handhelds more often, which most people don't, it just seems kind of pointless. And then you have some people spending $80-$90 buying two versions of the game just so they can play the handheld version when they're out for 20 minutes. I don't get it.

Finally.

It feels like I've been waitiing forever for Capcom to start mining my favorite segment of the Mega Man franchise.

I heartily approve of this.

Of all the X games, X1 had the absolute BEST music. It was almost like music from the first 4 8-bit titles, only with a much more heavy metal twist. I'm very excited to hear some rockin' remixes from this one!
