I pity the fools that spend so much money on these scams.

google commute GIF
Most of these are meme prices I assume. Just kids having a laugh at GameStops expense. The lower end are probably people trying to make a quick buck or artists genuinely trying to get a couple bucks out of their ideas.

Genuinely feel sorry for the latter though because they are having to resort to this kind of thing to get money out of their passion.

Even 1 cent, is too much for NFTs.

Nah at that point I don't see it much different than someone on DeviantArt selling a print. It's only when morons start throwing up obviously terrible jpegs and dumb gifs for thousands of dollars where I draw the line.

If somebody somewhere wants to make a dumb little Avatar and sell it for a couple of bucks and someone somewhere else wants to give them that couple bucks in order to use it then I'm not going to complain.

But it's not a collectible. And it sure as shit is not an investment.

Will buy something for 10bucks, I have some left overs in my ETH account. Maybe when it's displayed like that, it can be profitable, if I don't forget about it : D

I would sell that if I had one. You have any idea how much it’s selling for?

GameStop is selling "Falling Man" https://nft.gamestop.com/token/0x6b...fbec2a706e46bad74b2b93f61b791e6ba36a4c8aa1fa2

If that looks familiar to you, that's because it's just an edited version of the iconic photograph taken on 9/11 of a man that jumped from one of the World Trade Center towers. Background on the photo if you don't know of it or don't remember: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Falling_Man

So yeah, GameStop went and decided that this is ok. I've included a quick screen grab of GameStop's listing for it in case they come to their senses sooner rather than later.

Fuck GameStop and especially fuck NFTs. This goes beyond the usual bullshit of NFTs and takes it into all new depths of fucked.

It's not like buying a print at all unless you're planning to hang the NFT on a tokenised wall of your tokenised digital house. You can also use the jpg or whatever linked from it under fair use laws, if you want to make money from it, as in use it as a company logo, you'll need a separate license agreement from the artist anyway. Just like any other piece of art.

You're better off just giving that cent to the artist personally rather than contributing in any way to this scam economy.

Fucking imagine paying 1 Ethereum, currently $1576.43, for this bad furry Tumblr Twitter sketch.

Just fucking imagine

I have real tangible art which I have done high end glass and framing for less money, but then I value much more than that cost, when compared to some shitty jpeg you could find in any 4chan official thread on any day.

Who in their right mind would pay or pictures you can just copy and save?

You're not paying for the picture, you're paying for a unit of cryptocurrency that has a speculative value based, in some part but not all, on whatever has been minted alongside it, in the case of a picture its a URL that currently probably points to the picture.

Okay, but who decides that a link to a trashy gif is suddenly worth millions?

I dont get it

people are buying them in the hope they accumulate in value and that they get some return on the investment, much like cryptocurrencies but actually more like land...the idea is that the NFT is unique, and if it's unique it's rare, and if it's rare then it must have some sort of value, you just have to get into the commodity trader mindset and you're all set

the optimistic view is that the entire thing is predicated on NFTs being the norm for contractual transactions on the internet in years or decades to come, after all in a world where everything digital is tied to an NFT those that have got on the train early are set to get the biggest rewards

the pessimistic (realistic) view is that it's primarily being used for money-laundering and scamming poor people, like a pyramid scheme, who are buying into the hype of the optimistic view...either way, right now it's just gambling

if you've got two hours, which you probably don't, this video is the full tour of them:

I still have no idea WTF an NFT is and I think I'm good with that

A common picture/gif that anyone can take, but it has a unique receipt attached to it. The receipt is the collectible bit. The art isn’t.

Imagine going to a store and buying groceries. Your receipt is what they think is going to be collectible.

Only painfully slow, ignorant children would fall into this scam.
