Gaming Confessions

Plies

GAF's Nicest Lunch Thief and Nosiest Dildo Archeologist
Here is the place to talk about all of your embarrassing secrets, guilts and stupid moves in gaming.

Do you read walkthroughs without even trying first? Have you never finished your favorite game? Do you love a game everyone else seems to hate? Did you trade in your whole GameCube collection to put towards a Wii Preorder? Anything like this can be layed out here, this is a sympathetic zone, so don't be too judgmental.

Alright, I'll go first:

1- My pile of shame is massive , as I have severe motivational issues and spend at least 1000% more time on the internet, mainly on GAF, talking about games than actually playing them. 😆

2- I own every Zelda game besides Four Swords Adventures and I've only managed finish the Ocarina of Time ! 🫨

I enjoyed every moment of Senran Kagura Burst, and I think it has genuinely good plot and characters beyond the ecchi.

I play some games on Easy, and I've never really played Doom on Ultra Violence or higher.

I love Zelda 2 to bits. It's my most replayed Zelda, together with Zelda 1.

I couldn't do the Demon of Hatred skip in Sekiro. Had to beat the guy legit.

I fucked up my first Witcher 3 playthrough and got the bad ending because of it, I also never finished Blood and Wine.
I stopped playing the original Dead Space a few hours before the ending because I was just too fucking scared to continue. I also couldn't make much progress in Silent Hill 2 remake because I'm a pussy. I really wish I could play horror games.
Despite loving Lies of P to bits I had to use a small mod that tweaks the damage output of enemies a tiny bit, but it was enough to make a difference, game was too hard otherwise.
Outside of Oblivion I never liked any Bethesda game, and the reason why I liked it in the first place was mostly because I was a kid that was playing a big open world RPG for the first time. Playing the remaster showed me that I just really dislike their games because I always get bored within the first hour.
I like Uncharted 4 and Last of Us Part 2 the most out of their respective series.

I noticed you could run in Octopath Traveller only half-way through the game (30 hours in).

I noticed you could fast travel in Xenoblade after I cleared part of Gaur Plain. Yep, I went back and forward through Tephra Cave every time I wanted to change zone. Fucking hell.

I bought (and still own) a 3DO.

I definitely get paralysis is any RPG with manual stat allotment and I'll research optimal builds which makes me pine for the days of the early internet where that information wasn't immediate nor as easily accessible. As much as I bitch about modern game design leading players by the nose, being lost in games seems impossible these days with the amount of information available to us, but I still wish that was a design philopshy.

1.
I've replayed and finished Silent Hill 4, Final Fantasy VIII and Syberia 1 almost a 100 times each over the years.

2.
My gaming backlog is massive and it keeps growing. I keep buying, I do finish a lot of games but my backlog keeps growing as well. I just love physical games so much across all systems. I still collect retro games as well.

3.
I have to try and 100% every game I play. Otherwise it always feels like I didn't complete it

I was happy when resident evil 4 finally ended. Lot of times I force myself to play hyped games because "it will get better later" and this one of them.

Anyway, my real shameful characteristic is that I know some games I play are really good. Yet, I somehow end up not finishing them. Might do so in a very far future, but it's an occurrence I do not like.

Recently I have this problem with E33. It's a great game and I absolutely loved what I've played so far. Yet, for now, I can't get myself to fire it up.

And this shit happens from time to time with whatever game.

I rarely finish games. I might finish one in ten. Most are too long or repetitive and I just get bored with them. I think it's because I grew up in the arcades and on consoles where a playthrough didn't last hours and hours. It lasted 3 lives and the challenge was getting as far as possible on those 3 lives. I think that's why I enjoy fighting and racing games so much. A bout or a race typically only lasts a few minutes.

I have 2215 games on Steam, and probably half that much in physical format, from Atari 2600 to modern systems. I'm also 50 years old and will never, ever come close to playing everything.

Does that stop me from buying more? Nope. Can't wait for next week for the Switch 2!

Back when I was a teen I got to the very last boss/tower descent in Zelda OOT and never finished it.

It is the sin I always deny in confession.

- i never buy addons/DLCs
- i put a sinful and disgustung amount of hours into World of Warcraft
- when i play Mega Man i mostly look up the boss order
- i think all fanboys are stupid and some are mentally ill
- sometimes i wish i had a flashy thing just to enjoy Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max, Monkey Island and many more p&c adventures again

Hot take. HL2 is overrated.
I try to convince myself that I'll check it out myself some day. But we'll see. The longer it takes the less likely it is, and the older it's going to feel. Maybe I can go in through some RTX remix version.
I've played about an hour of Alyx at least.

Anyway, my real shameful characteristic is that I know some games I play are really good. Yet, I somehow end up not finishing them.

You might be afraid of it finally being over and you can no longer experience that fresh feeling. If you never finish it, there's always something new to look forward to in the future.

2. I've never played GTA5.

Also, I've played maybe 30 minutes of GTA3 and I doubt I've played more than 3 hours total of GTA4.

I once imported a PocketStation ($90) from Japan, even though it had no use for games here in the U.S. , lol

I keep buying games i know i will never play let alone finish, not because i'm interested in them (albeit i am), but because I'm constantly chasing that high i was able to feel years ago.

And i know fully well it is gone forever.

And yet I'm still buying.

I dumped my first girlfriend on the first day of Spring Break 2002 and bought a PS2 + Final Fantasy X the same day. Spent my whole break playing PS2 and hanging out with my homies.

I preordered a PS5 Pro and it's collecting dust. I probably used it 10 hours total.

I convinced my sister to go halvsies on a Sega Menacer back in the day and I'm the only one who used it (mainly for T2 Arcade)
