Recently, the Gaming Force Audio forums have been conducting a contest to decide which VGM music stands above the rest. The contest started with 64 pre-selected tracks and currently sits in the semi-final stage. We are nearing the end and, while I totally disagree with what I believe the winner will be, it is interesting nonetheless...

Not too long ago, a nice compilation disc was created for the tracks which made it to the top 16 (OK, the final track is a joke). Shortly after that, a companion disc was made to represent songs which ALMOST made it.

Anyways, here are the two albums that were compiled for this contest. What do you think about these results? There are certainly some good tracks in there, but I can't say that all of them are favorites of mine. I'd also suggest that a lot of these tracks were chosen solely based on nostalgia...but of course, I'm not suprised. I gotta say, though, the second disc is a lot more appealing to me than the first.

All I can say is that Into the Wilderness from Wild Arms is one of my favorite game music tracks of all time. Especially when you beat the game. God, the whole soundtrack was just ridiculous. Alter Code F can't come out soon enough.

I assume you played Wild Arms 3 then, yes? I really loved the small tribute to "Into the Wilderness" during the opening credits sequence (after you complete each of the four characters opening segments). That was fantastic!

The lineup looks pretty good. It's not too often you see Napple Tale getting the recognition it deserves since most people have never even heard of it.

Although I don't see how not even 1 song from SoTN managed to make the list.
