Gaming Handheld PC vs. Gaming Laptop?

Well, I find myself in yet another quandary. I had been looking at the Lenovo Legion Go S Steam OS with the Z2 Go. But I looked at the HP Victus gaming laptop on Amazon which is just a bit cheaper and I don't know which to go with. I've never gamed on a laptop, so that would be a new experience on my part, but I've also never had a handheld gaming PC either, but I've had plenty of handhelds over the year.

Here's the links to both of the products I'm considering:

Please help me out if you can. I don't know which would be a better fit for my needs. Thanks!

For $50 more, go with the og Legion Go. Go S with Z2 Go doesn't perform that great. I'd go with the laptop over Go S myself.

Well, if I did go for the OG Legion Go, is it hard to install Steam OS? I think I'm leaning towards the HP Victus. My dumb ass realized I can get a gaming mouse with it. It would be pretty awesome then. BUT I kinda do want a handheld pretty bad

I haven't been able to install Steam OS properly on Rog Ally X so can't really answer that. I'm currently running Bazzite. But yeah....that laptop is probably the better option than the Go S.

The only thing keeping me from buying a Legion Go or any other Windows based handheld is people have complained with the long set-up problems and updates you have to keep doing. I'd love to have one, though. I don't know... Trying to fall back in love with gaming.

Don't blame ya, gaming is a turd punch anymore. Steam Deck is what I went with and I enjoy it over any of the consoles out right now.

The only advantage the handhelds have over a laptop is that they're actually portable (though barely) rather than transportable, which is what a laptop is. Laptops will offer a bigger screen and much better hardware, often for a lower price. Plus, you can game comfortably using a Dual Sense or other standard controller, rather than an large, awkward handheld.

Last Black Friday I was debating a similar scenario to yours OP and I ended up going for a Victus laptop with a RTX 4060 and I don't regret my choice at all. When I go visit family I can bring that laptop and game on it while also being able to do a bunch of productivity tasks if need be.

If you do go with a laptop, don't go with the one you posted, a RTX 2050 is extremely outdated, try to go for a 4060 or 5050, those will give you the best bang for your buck while also keeping the laptop's weight (and that of its power brick) in check.
