I dunno...I feel like, in a perfect world, age really wouldn't matter. But in reality, sometimes pronounced age differences tend to speak to the insecurities of one or both parties. You kinda start to wonder what the two actually have in common at such different stages of their respective lives. I've been hit on plenty by significantly older men, but I can't remember the last time a much older man hit on me because he found me attractive and intellectually appealing. A lot of older men tend want younger guys to flaunt as a symbol of their virility. And a lot of younger guys who go for [established] older men tend to like to take advantage of that.
Of course, this is just my experience. I'm certainly not speaking for everyone.
And, of course, there is such a thing as two people meeting and genuinely falling in love despite any age difference. Old souls, young hearts, and all that jazz. So I'd say keep your heart open, but have realistic expectations.

I don't feel it matters, granted my relationship is with an age difference of only 4 years (3 and 10 months if you want to be picky). I think it would matter if you were dating someone that is around 16~17, and you are on 2nd or 3rd of university. I have a friend whose girlfriend is about to finish high school, and you can tell their relationship works because he's a bit immature and dorky.

I think age difference is not such a dealbreaker, especially in the "generational gap" department. I've had feelings of generational gap with partners where the age difference was almost neglible while not having it with people much older than me. As always, depends on the person.
