I'm looking for some advice cause I'm ever so confused...
So my ex dumped me in a rather hurtful/sudden way 2 months ago. I didn't want to split and had lots of feelings for him but he obviously didn't so he ended it. A few weeks of trying and still wanting to be his friend while again he didn't seem to want anything to do with me. So we kind of spoke our true feelings for one another... nothing nasty or personal, but got a bit heated and we "fell out" and never spoke again throughout December...
But time is a great healer. I sent him a little thank you/Xmas gift a week before Christmas because I felt it would be nice as we never really thanked each other for the good times and I'm a nice guy. Didn't know how he'd take it and he didn't txt me to say he'd received it or anything. So on Xmas Day I wished him a happy one and that I hope he got my gift. He replied back wishing me the same and thanked me and said it was greatly appreciated.
So the next day I asked if he'd want to see a movie at the cinema sometime this week while he was off uni (I had 2 free tickets from when we were going out that needed using), but he replied with his usual "he can't, he's busy all week". I said it was a shame cause it be nice to catch up, he replied sayin, they'd be nothing stopping us another time (though he's said that before and nothing came). Then a bit later he asked how life was. We txted a little about stuff and I thought no more. But later that night he randomly txts me about how he'd "randomly" looked through our holiday photos, which I thought was rather strange, not because he looked at them, but because he was wanting to txt me about it and tell me. This was a guy who was trying hard to not want to even be my friend some weeks ago, now chatting away quite happily about our hols and potential future hols/plans.
Then a few days pass... and he txts me again asking how I'm doing, so again we talk for a bit until bedtime, catching up with life.
So I don't really know what's happening here. Is he just bored/does he want to be friends now/is he looking for another holiday out of me? Or maybe it's cause his birthdays coming up and he wants me to buy him sommat? I don't quite understand or how to progress with him, in case I read him wrong. Do I simply just ask him if he's ok with stuff now and wants to keep in touch? Or am I just over thinking things and let them just play out :/

To me it seems he himself is confused about the situation. i say you take it slow, and go with the flow for now. if he keeps hitting you up and texting you, i think it's pretty obvious he wants something to happen between you two again.
