NaNoWriMo helps considerably. Then months and months of rewrites.

The cover was designed by a fellow college student friend o' mine. I paid him $40 upfront and he gets 10-15% cut of any profits.

If I do get it printed old-school style through a regular publisher, it might go under a shit-ton of edits and revisions, since I am self-publishing this.

Wow it is great to have a friend who would do a cover like that. You have really given me extra drive to finish mine. Cant wait to read yours.

That's sounds awesome. So, it's only going to be a digital release? If you ever release it on paper, I'll be sure to pick up a copy.
GET WITH THE TIMES, BUY A KINDLE

nah but for real i'll let you know if it ever gets a physical copy

Yeah but I'm expecting you to sell millions.
He's more than an artist to me, he's a friend. And we're a team. I already have him lined up to work on the cover for the second book in the future.

We'll become a force to be reckoned with in the literary world.

I know, I'm sort of old school when it comes to books.

Anyway, I hope your book is a great success! :)

You mean a sequel?

I much prefer physical copies myself. Until ebooks can replicate that feeling of flipping pages, the sound of a book spine when you crack it open, that new book smell, I cant see myself picking up a kindle. But definately goodluck on the novel Zephyr. Your posts makes so much more sense now knowing youre a writer.

The official cover for my debut novel The Dream Metropolis, headed to the American Amazon Kindle store sometime soon. © David Mellor 2011.
That's a pretty cool cover there, Zephyr. Congrats!

My PSN ID is on my profile, if anyone wants to add me. Though, as SpaceBridge must have realized by now, I rarely use my PS3 anymore.

What do you mean?

I've read so many more books since I got a Kindle, and much faster. It's so convenient, would never give it up.

You write really well, and posit your arguments and opinions in a clear and concise manner. Always impressed me. Can only imagine what other ideas and thoughts your imagination can conjure up. :)

Well thanks, but I'm damn sure I am terrible at arguments. The gay megathread is proof of that.

You could try lulu.com and i think they can make some physical copies for you, but for a price.

Yeah, I love physical copies of books, especially for the reasons you mentioned. I love flipping through the pages. <3 I sort of prefer used books, though. I like knowing that others have learned or had an adventure with that book in particular. Each book has a history that I'm unaware of, and I like having those books on my shelf.

I tend to like physical copies of books too, but when I saw the last ASOIAF I sure wished I had a kindle.

That shit's heavier than the weights I use to work out.

ZephyrFate said:
Yep. That's the entire book.
I knew it!!!

I'v e been planning on sitting down and write stuff, but I'm too lazy..so I have many things in my mind that I'd like to write, but never have the inspiration. Same with drawing..maybe one of this days, I'm getting tired of the routine (of not doing anything). :p

I looked at that. I don't have enough funds to go through lulu.com right now, and again, I need some interest generated to see if it's worth going physical.

Plus I'd need to redesign the cover which isn't feasible right now.

I'm the opposite, I find dealing with spines and manual page flipping annoying, I like not having to contend with any bindings to read the text. The smell is nice, and I also like that used books have more history, but I hardly notice the absence. With bigger screens and faster refresh rates, I'd ditch paper forever and never look back. Though I'm kind of biased towards digital media just for being the more convenient format. The main reason I'm motivated to own physical books is more for archival purposes, now.

I used to be the same way even got all the hard copies of all of E. Lynn Harris's books but when you move around packing up books and lifting and carrying them is hard work. I am now just buying digital copies of books, movies and music. I do wish some physical copies of books came with a code to download an ibooks or kindle version of them.

I've always wanted to write a book myself. In high school I used to be part of a writing group but after that things just fell apart, though I do have an idea of a book. I've been toying with the idea of sexuality and what constitutes it, is it personality, emotion, physical or everything that makes us up as a person.

The premise of the book in my head is about a gay couple (hot interracial couple Black & Asian) who are happily married living in upstate new york. On a sudden business trip one of couple have to fly to Thailand and there is attacked and almost murdered. He survives but loses his memory and finds himself in a remote village in Thailand. Not knowing anything about himself he can only go by what people tell him and a nurse tells him he looks like someone that had disappeared 10 years ago -her husband. He recovers from his injuries and belives himself to be this person that had disappeared, the nurse even tells him he has a 10 year old son he never met.

On the other side of the world, the husband (Larry for the time being) hasn't heard from his man (Thomas) in quite sometime and learned from the company he never conducted the business he was supposed to do. Larry gets the runaround by the company so he takes a leave of absence from his job to go to Thailand. When he goes there he is in for a huge culture shock.

So my book is a bit about what if we lost everything that makes up the person we are, does that also affect sexuality. I have a lot of twists and turns and lies that I think will keep people interested in reading. Now if i can take the time to put it on paper.

What do you guys think?

One word of advice already: It's "affect" when you're using it as a verb, and "effect" as a noun.

Amazing story idea there. My novel is pretty much planned out i just nee to write it. It's mostly super heroes, gay teens and the drama that comes with it. I was told i'd be better off with a graphic novel but i cant draw for the life of me.

So it is a good or bad idea? Oh and I called my lawyer :P

Sorry I was just writing down stuff from my head nothing written on paper yet. Maybe I should start using that Pages app on my iPad.

Thanks. I used to dream up comic book characters when I was in high school but comic book fans are so picky about what characters they like to see that new characters are hard to come up with. Its like gamers saying they are tired of bald space marines but the games that sell the most are about bald space marines.

What kind of super powers do they have?

I want to write a story about a jealous, pregnant queen whose king has just died. She is locked in a room at the top of a castle to ensure the safe birth of the heir. She will be killed and buried with her husband when she has given birth. She has to choose between death or cannibalising her baby.

No I don't, I just made that up.

I love my transforming heroes. It's v sailor moonish meets more grim darkness with very heavy character focus. Not always about the powers but the people and how they choose to use them.

Yeah I'd like to know as well. I wished shows like HEROES or Alphas had a gay character with a super power.

Sounds cool. That sort of reminds me of inFamous 2. "Its not the powers that kills people, its the people behind the powers"

Wow now that I think more about it... Delio I think I know you from somewhere else right?
Another gaming site to be exact. Am I correct or not? O_o

I've been working on a series of novels for like five years (speculative fiction), but they've gradually grown ridiculously metaphysical and convoluted, and my philosophy has changed so much that now I can only see it becoming some kind of work philosophical fiction, and I am tasked with reworking most of it. But it seems like a natural shift, since pretty much the main recurring theme could probably only be "what is reality?", and playing with 'reality' and trying to capture transient moments of (the perception of) insight were like my only two significant fonts of inspiration or motivation, and pretty much continue to be. For example: Narcissus and Goldmund by Hermann Hesse is probably my 'favorite' novel.
