Anyways this is kind of OT but what kind of music is everyone into? I assume anyone that's spent some time at clubs has developed a taste for electronic music, if they hadn't before. My favorite genres seem to be more often than not electronic.

Funk, soul, jazz and hiphop. I'm the only gay person I know of who's heavily into that stuff :/

No you're not! I've got a Stax collection that would make Isaac Hayes jealous. And don't get me started on Sly and the Family Stone...

Actually Sly and the Family Stone (and Funkadelic) are some of the few I'm not a fan of.

My favorite artists are Herbie Hancock, Parliament, James Brown, The Crusaders, Maceo Parker, The Meters, Tower of Power, EW&F, AWB... I could go on forever.

Everything but Rap really. I've gotten into more dance stuff lately thanks to Kitchenmotors and Sai kun but i also really love bands like Breaking Benjamin,Tool,Perfect Circle and the like.

Hm. There's some crossover then. I love me some P-Funk and Sly, but damn! I never thought I'd see anyone reference Tower of Power on NeoGAF...

And I'm a James Brown fanatic, especially the stuff from People Records. I must have listened to "Think (About It)" thousands of times by this point.

Yeah, People Records is the best!

I saw Parliament live two months ago and I don't think I'll ever see a better concert in my life.

Other music I love is D'Angelo, Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, Isley Brothers, Grover Washington Jr., Pleasure, the early Kool & The Gang (everything after 1979 is shit imo), early Commodores, Brothers Johnson, the first 3 Prince albums, Roger Troutman...

As for rap: Biggie, The Roots, The Fugees, Lauryn Hill, Common, N*E*R*D

As for Jazz, nothing beats Wayne Shorter, Cannonball Adderley and Davis.

You're a good person.

this thread is dying... :(
Seriously. Who do I have to blow to get things going again?

I really shouldn't bake. I made macaroons, ate half of the batch in the space of an hour and now I'm trapped in a shame spiral.

Anybody who frequents the monthly music threads probably knows that I'm all over the place, heh. My habits are mostly split between drone/ambient and pop or R&B, with a handful of my essentials (Fleetwood Mac, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, Cat Power, etc) scattered throughout.

I tend to get hopelessly hooked on a few specific songs periodically. Right now, it's like there are no better things in the world than Jhene Aiko, "Snapped" and Shane McGowan and Sinead O'Connor, "Haunted"

~ I've only seen the first season of US Queer As Folk, but as good as Hal Sparks is, I much preferred the UK version's characters: Stuart and Nathan, djafhadklhg yes; Vince and Stuart at the wedding in series 2, gaaaah yes again.

~ Delio's situation is d'aww and makes me hopeful for my own future (with the obvious flashes of intense skepticism and trepidation too).

~ Positive I saw Darren Criss (okay, his doppelganger) walking around shirtless in the Capitol Hill neighborhood yesterday. I do not gawk at guys, but I couldn't help it this time. :(

~ Got my grades for the summer classes I took: 4.0, baby. Nice way to go into my culinary course in January. And the new job I've got at Yellow Leaf is going sooo well; I actually feel totally at home and confident for the first time in a few years.

The extent to which you are my clone concerns me. Have you heard the new Tori tracks? I prefer SHattering Sea to Carry but I'm really liking the tone of this new album so far. Tori Amos + full orchestration is always going to be good.

I'd listen to Tori Amos more if she'd done something good in the last 9 years. But no, I have Scarlet's Walk on constant repeat.

I haven't checked out any of the new material yet; Tori is one of the few instances I prefer to hear an album in full and totally fresh. Going to see her in December, too!

Knowing your love for cooking and food porn, that job seems fantastic. I'm really happy for you! :)

You've probably never heard of them.

On a serious note, a lot of electronic music lately like Crystal Castles and Justice. However I always fall back on the classics (for me) such as Tool and A Perfect Circle.

That's pretty sensible actually. The new album is modelled on classical song cycles so probably works better taken as a whole. I'm so jealous, I'd love to see her live. None of my friends like her though so I never have anyone to go with. I think I need new friends.

Favorite bands are Ben Folds Five, the Squirrel Nut Zippers, and Radiohead. Other than them, I haven't followed new music in about a decade because I'm an old fuddy-duddy. I also love Nina Simone and old musicals.

..

On a separate front, our house here in Austin has sold. It was only on the market for 6 days. Our realtor talked us into bumping up the asking price quite a bit, and - lo and behold - he was right in that people would accept the price. We're still in shock. We were staring at the prospect of having to move separately, with me moving to New Orleans to start a job early and him staying behind in Austin to finish tending to the sale of the house, but now that's no longer a worry.

Also not a worry? Our old akita, Jake, might live long enough to make it back to his hometown.

We'll be rolling into town just in time for VooDoo Fest.. hell yeah!

(and I don't know who those folks are either. Sorry.. I'm a bit out of touch..)

I like ska and punk mainly, but I tend to delve into other stuff on occasion. In fact, I've been on a huge dance-club-pop thing lately, and I don't know why.

Also, I got my haircut, and it looks really good. I just need to shave 'cuz I look like a hobo.

Glad things are working out better than expected, Tom! Cute family you have there!

Funny umop should mention Aaliyah. She died today ten years ago (August 25th, 2001.) I think I had just bought her record that July... It was one of her best.

Man, I've never really liked the big brother guy, but I know a lot of people find him pretty. I don't like Stephan's head. It looks huge. I wish he'd get a new haircut. They're both pretty good looking though. The Elena girl has always been hot.

On the subject of music, anyone a metal fan? I don't venture into metal-gaf much because I didn't have money for music, but spotify has let me listen to a whole lot of stuff now.

So I just got back from the FanExpo here in Toronto. Lots of fun. Saw Robert Englund, and Lance Henriksen. Assassins Creed Revelations and Batman Arkham City demos. 3DS demo station was empty...lol.

Lost of cute nerds too.

Had sex with a straight friend in his swimming pool to Rock the Boat when it came out :)

Thanks Aaliyah!
