GBA Starting Out

I'm going to set aside $100 and get myself a minimum of 5 GBA games, and preferably closer to 10. I'm not getting anything for the full $30, just on principle - I'm just looking for the must-haves that have come down in price.

I'm a total Nintendo newbie, never had an NES or SNES, but on the other hand, I'm not interested in Mario. I've played all of those games and they were never my cup of tea. I've already got Mario Kart Super Circuit, Metroid Zero Mission, and Advance Wars 2 available to me since my brother has them.

What should I get? Are there any nice bundle packs I should be aware of?

You need Fire Emblem, my friend.

Get all the Mega Man Battle Networks, the Castlevanias, Konami Wai Wai Racing, and the Pokemon games, as well.

Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis, too.

You should get EFWIS. It's a great game!

What is EFWIS? I tried doing a Google search and got a thread from a year ago on the archives where you said the same thing. :lol

Ninja Five-0 and Astro Boy both sound like they're right up my alley, as I grew up on the Genesis... thanks! I would've overlooked them.

Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald (psst... don't listen to Amir0x! =P)
Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green (see above comment)
Fire Emblem
Wario Ware

Metroid Fusion
Golden Sun: The Lost Age
Fire Emblem
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
Pokemon Ruby/Emerald/Sapphire
Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror
Bubble Bobble Old & New

I recommend you stay away from Golden Sun, Wario Ware, and Mario & Luigi, if you're going to buy them straight out.

Fire Emblem
Metroid
Castlevanias
GoldenSun
Wario World
advance wars
Mario + luigi
Mario series
and
kurukurukurin if you can find it :lol

No offense personally, but this thread happens like clockwork.

I don't think it was a week ago. I was going to post the same response but ahh.. yeah.

SEARCH ENGINES. This discussion between you and me is also like dejavu

I did get my phrasing wrong the last time though :)

You'll have to excuse me, but I had to give the handheld contingent their weekly workout. :lol

Metroids
Castlevanias
Advance Wars
Fire Emblems
Wario Wares
Mario Advances
Zeldas
Ninja 5-0
Astro Boy
Advance Guardian Heroes

More iffy on the enjoyment:
Golden Suns
Pokemons

Wait, is this your first Nintendo handheld ever?

Yes, it is. I bought it off of AlphaSnake with two games (JGR and Oddworld Munch's Oddysee). I've never owned a Game Boy or any other handheld before.

Kirby's Pinball Land
Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land
Wario Land 2
Wario Land 3
Super RC Pro-Am
Wario Blast

Why not Oracle of Seasons as well? Sure it's not as good as Ages, but it's still great. And the password system is kind of cool.

I'm going through these and checking prices to see the best collection I can get for $100...

Are Sonic Advance 1 & 2 the same as the Genesis games?

No, but they're 2D and new Sonic games. Some people don't like 'em, but I can't figure out why (they're not as good as old Sonics, but still fun, in my opinion).

1 is okay, but 2 sucks(really bad level design, and the characters were retooled to remove their individuality a bit-Amy in particular.) Advance 3 is better than both of them, and is basically like Sonic 3 & Knuckles in portable form

I played Tetris on my Amiga. Time to move on.

Well check out The Minish Cap or LADX at least (someday). They're the two best 2D Zeldas, in my opinion.

Check your local store, but I know at a couple Gamestops I go to, you can bring back a used game in 7 days if you don't like it.

Unless you live outside the US...

Minish Cap was seriously the most fun I've had with videogames in *YEARS*. Advance Wars 2 is also good. CIMA:The Enemy is quirky but charming, Golden Sun I and II are alright, Phantasy Star Collection is great (I'm hardcore into that series), Fire Emblem looks awesome (I still need to get it - but my brother got it for $10 and I'm too cheap to spend $30 on it :P). I ordered Ninja Five O from someone off of Ebay but hasn't come in yet so I have no comment on it.

Ew, you removed GTA Advance and Kingdom Hearts: CoM. I don't like you no more.
Sorry. But they're average games with above-average titles. :P

Same with Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.

I dislike FFTA, I included it there because it has overwhelmingly good reviews. So obviously certain people will like it even though I didn't. GTA Advance is good, but I bet you're the type of person who shuns GTAIII/VC/San Andreas, three of the most critically acclaimed games ever. Of course, GTA Advance isn't in the same league, but it's still a solid 7/8, imho. And Kingdom Hearts: CoM was also neat, a solid 8.

I'd highly recommend the following for a medium sized collection of GBA games.

Advance Wars 1/2
Astroboy: Omega Factor
Boktai 1/2
Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
Fire Emblem
Kirby and the Amazing Mirror
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
Metroid: Zero Mission
Ninja 5-O
Phantasy Star Collection
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
Wario Ware Twisted!

Don't forget to pick up a title from the excellent Survival Kids series on the GBC.

Sonic Advance $20
Ninja Five-0 $28
Astro Boy $20
Fire Emblem $25
Breath of Fire II $20

OK, now I'm set... I'm going to Fry's. I reserve the right to change my mind. :D

And no thanks to those of you who didn't bother reading that I didn't want to buy full price games...

You can get like 80% of the games I listed at this point for dirt cheap :P

Actually, I liked GTAIII and SA (VC I wasn't too fond of), and I thought GTA Advance sucked. :/

Why do you gotta go prove my generalizations wrong? You know I'm just f00lin' with you! We talked about GTA Advance before, I can't believe you forgot :P

I thought GTA Advance was pretty much as good as the other 2D GTAs, so it's a love or hate thing.

Awright. Fry's didn't have any good deals, so I went to a local EBG. I got:

Fire Emblem $22.49
Breath of Fire II $17.99
F-Zero GP Legend $12.99
Sonic Advance $14.99

Good haul. :D I wanted to get Astro Boy and Ninja Five-0, but they were out of stock. And I certainly couldn't pass up F-Zero at that price.

Astro Boy's been 20$ at WalMart for a while know. I picked it up a week ago and am very happy I did. best GameBoy game I've played in the last few years, save Aria of Sorrow

Final Fantasy Tactics
Final Fantasy Dawn of Souls
Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories
Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap
Pokemon series
Tactics Ogre
and

Golden Sun 1 and 2 - these games are amazing. Definitely don't miss out on these games. You'll be able to buy a PSP down the road if you want at a much reduced cost.
