GBMicro launch in japan = successful

Well, considering I've been in probably (no joke at all) 80 game stores over the past couple days I'd say my observations are probably pretty accurate. There are stacks of the things everywhere, including the Famicom version. In contrast, today Advent Children went on sale and there were lines everywhere. The LTD. edition is already sold out.

After the predicted gloom of the DS launch even after the first day of sales IIRC, it might be wise to hold off observations. Observations had the PSP doing the DS in, although my memory is a bit fuzzy.

i guess it just depends where you go.

I've been in 8 shops today and saw the absolute opposite - absolutely 0 Famicom machines available, no mad dashes for FF7...

Where abouts are you at at the moment Steeler?

I'm at the Century Southern Tower in Shinjuku. Was in Akihabara all day yesterday. Are you going to the Tokyopia party tomorrow night?

I'm not saying the Micro is gonna bomb, and honestly, I'm really fighting the urge to buy the Famicom version, but it's kinda strange that I haven't seen a single unit sold since I've been here and I see stacks in every store I go to.

No it's not.

Where did you find them? I have a crew of about five who are trying desperately to find one with absolutely no luck. The Sofmap told us that the entire city is sold out.

Yeah, i'll be there.

Might be worth checking out some of the smaller out-of-the-center places.

There's a couple of places round where i live, so i could check there and let you know thursday.

Don't forget the DS.

Tamagotchi and Phoenix Wright are out this week as well and both could be big sellers (in terms of software and systems).

According to a Reuters report, retailers in Japan have reported better-than-expected orders for the Game Boy Micro on its debut today in Japan. The new iteration of the existing Game Boy Advance hardware is only 4 inches wide by 2 inches long, and weighs just 2.8 ounces.

Although Nintendo have not yet revealed any figures for the launch, retailers have estimated total orders as less than that for the Game Boy Advance SP – which sold most of its stock on pre-orders alone in its first week, with approximately 114,000 sales. Nintendo’s initial shipment of the Game Boy Micro was believed to be put at 250,000 units, according to reports last week.

The 20th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. has also played a strong role in the console’s advertising in Japan with a special limited edition Famicom (aka NES) themed version selling particularly well alongside the Famicom Mini version of the game. In fact, online reports indicate that the strong design and 'wow' factor of the compact Game Boy Micro may be tempting consumers, despite the identical functionality to previous Game Boy Advance hardware.

Referring to criticism that the console is too expensive at ¥11,499 ($105) Reuters cites analyst Yuta Sakurai at Nomura Securities, who claims that: "The company aims to expand the gaming population, and with the Micro it wants to attract adult players, especially those who used to play games but stopped because they got busy or for other reasons. Adults have different budgets [from children]."

Nintendo aims to sell a total of 10.2 million Game Boy Advance consoles worldwide this business year (ending March 2006) of which 4 million are expected to be Game Boy Micros. The North American release is scheduled for September 19th at $99.99 and on November 4th in Europe at approximately €99 ($130).

This is why nintendo will never go out of business (not that i want them to)... They keep selling the same thing over and over in different packages and nitendo fans keeps buying it.... I can't believe it.
Actually, I thought of a better way to put it...
