I would like to be the first person to complain about the animations even though they have stated the animation is something being worked on. :D
 
i actually dont have much complaints with the animation from this newest video. the run looks a bit ackward, but thats about it

game looks absolutely gorgeous.

They have a long way to go yet so fixing animations isnt a big deal.

Man, that looks great! Framerate is much better and he says that he expects to double it by release. Also, thats the first time I saw "roadie-cam"...pretty cool but I expect that it only happens when you sprint, right?
 
Direct feed would be nice. What wasn't washed out looked good. Animations aren't as bad as everyone is making out. Neither is the mapping.

Anybody want to guess at the framerate? 20fps tops? It was stated that the goal was to double it.

I'm thinking about 20fps too. That's really the only thing that bothers me at this point. Looks like they nailed almost everything else.

Their goal is to lock the game at 30 fps. The X05/Zero Hour version still uses only one core.
 
Bah framerate, animations, what the hell. If there is anything that makes any game great - it's badass commandos and catchy one-liners after a kill! Awesome vid. The lighting looks real nice in the forest - e.g the headlights of the... warthog. Also the CNN shaky camera and door bust was wicked.

Did you hear the narrator talk to one of the Locust trying to get on the wagon? "Huh, you wanna hitch a ride?" :)

Because no one cares about such a slow-ish game being 30 or 60 (as long as it's locked) except a few anal people and/or trolls on internet forums?
 
Finally downloaded it and that CNN cam is just fucking stunning! I hope Kojima steals it for MGS4 because it would look great in that aswell.

Nah, they made a point to say how easy it has been to dev for the 360. Blim has it. They would rather put in lots of sparkle at 30 then sacrifice anything to get going at 60, especially considering the flow of the action.
 
Frames Per Second People...... - I'm calling you out.

I'm getting out my mighty Ignore list if I see anyone bitch about a game being or not being 30FPS or 60FPS.

This is getting regodamndiculious.
 
Outside of the framerate, which I hope will be rock solid at release, I'd really like to see them redo the fire effects. At the moment it looks pretty shoddy, certainly below the best efforts of this generation.

Question: What’s your goal regarding the frame rate?

Mark: ...definitely over 30 all the time. Our goal for Gears of War isn’t so much a particular frame rate. This isn’t a fast paced run and gun game like Unreal Tournament where we want 60 frames per second all the time. This is really about using a high degree of visual acuity, lots of great graphics, lots of detail to help tell the story. I don’t know if you noticed but I walked around back behind the room, an area where you don’t have to go as part of this demo so it was fully modelled out, looked beautiful everything is normal mapped. Our goals were to provide this cool believable world; so we’ll be over 30 but we don’t need to be 60. If we find were hitting 60 then were going to throw more visual effects in, throw more things going on, more post effects.

Despite the framerate/ animation/ video quality it looked pretty good. Hope that was not the final voice acting, it was very lifeless. Also hope the guns sound better as the shotgun (I presume thats what it was) in particular sounded dull and didn't seem to have much weight behind it. May have just come off worse with the recording method used.

Finally downloaded it and that CNN cam is just fucking stunning!

Seemed a bit intrusive for me, will probably take a bit of getting used to.

When is this meant to be out again? Early 2006? Looking forward to it in any case.

yeah right. if it was 60fps you wouldn't even be making that post.

I truly and honestly couldn't care less about this game being 30 or 60 fps. This is not a racing game where this actually could make a real difference.
And in fact, 60 fps first person games usually give me motion sickness, so considering this game is halfway between FPS and TPS, I'm actually glad I won't have to worry about this.

I think that's the point, a panicked sprint for cover/light.

Perhaps, I just think it will annoy me during gameplay rather than making me panic. It will be one of those things that until I get hands on I won't really be able to tell if it works or not.

The cam is meant to do two things:

Draw the gamer into the action more

and

Give a feeling of dramatic suspense/action.

I don't think it's intrusive... besides... from the sounds of it... you don't have to use... or maybe you do... who knows.
 
The game looks amazing even in a dark shakey cam vid filmed off of a projector.

My only criticism is that the fuel looked pretty bad when it flowed out of the tanker. The rain flowing down the trees/environment etc in the next level made up for it though. :D

The lighting and shadowing are incredible as well, but that's to be expected since that's the basis for the game.
 
I dunno, the more I see of Gears Of War the more it reminds me of The Thing (the voice acting and the gameplay, not so much the graphics :D ).

Am I the only one?

Anyway, I really cannot wait for this game.
