Finally got it to install.

For those who have redeemed and don't see it in the Games & Apps app, try turning off your Xbox and turning it back on. Make sure the console isn't set to 'Instant On' because that doesn't really shut down the box.

Once you've done this, go to Games & Apps and go all the way to the right in the Games section. From here you should get a list of things ready to be installed, and Gears should be one of them.

Hope MS gets their shit together real soon. I want to play!

I'm in the same boat. I want to played the flawed original for all its worth, although I believe after the nostalgia factor weighs off a lot of these arguments will become much more valid.

game doesn't work right now. all you can do is press start and then a message comes up saying you're not authorized to use this software or something.

The backwards compatibility doesn't work, I can't say that for sure. I've tried both Perfect Dark and Kameo and the console won't install either of them.
