The fact I got my second code after launching the beta might've just been a coincidence last night. Seems like it is just a random timer. I would guess it took maybe 5-6 hours after activation to get my code during last nights mess.

Community Question Update - Major Community Questions (Updated 6/15 11:33 PM)

Q: I downloaded my code but am still not able to access the beta
A: You must download TWO 5x5 codes that may be sent at different times (one is a download code, one is an activation) to access the beta.

Q: Why can I not invite friends to join my party (squad) in the beta?
A: Unfortunately we are currently undergoing issues with our party system in Gears: UE that were not able to be fixed for our beta, but will be fixed for the live game. For that reason, party systems had to be disabled for the beta.

Q: I received an activation and download code that are the same
A: This is a known issue that we are working hard to resolve (as of 11:17pm PDT 6/15)

Q: I received my two codes, but they were listed as "already claimed" when I entered them.

Q: What about the unlocks and rewards for beta? How does that work?
A: Each day you play has a weapon skin unlocked. If you play that day, you unlock that weapon skin for the full game. Thrashball Cole will also be available to unlock if you play from 3-8pm PDT on Saturday. NOTE: Due to issues on Day 1, we extended Day 1's reward (Mars skin) to Day 2 as well.

Q: What are the overall maps for the beta, and why are there limited maps to start the beta?
A: The overall maps for the beta are Gridlock, Canals, Courtyard, Goldrush, and War Machine. Each day we will be deploying a new map based on YOUR community votes (on these forums and on Twitter). Day 5, 6, and 7 will feature all maps.

Q: How long is the beta for?
A: The beta is currently set to run for 7 days, or until Monday at 11AM.

Q: What other settings and changes will be made to the game throughout the beta?
A: Important in-game features like active reload, self-revive, and respawn timer will be tweaked throughout the beta based on your feedback in the forums.

Q: What are the game modes being used in the beta? Where is Execution?
A: The game modes for the beta are only our brand new modes, Team Deathmatch and King of the Hill. The old staples like Execution, Warzone, etc. will be in the final release of the game, but for the beta we wanted to show you our newest game modes you have never played before in Gears 1.

Q: What is the difference between Competitive and Social Playlists?
A: Think of it like Quick Match vs Ranked in Gears 3 - competitive also features leaderboards whereas social will not int he final game.

Other Important Notes:

- One weapon skin will be unlocked per day. If you play on that day, you will unlock the weapon skin for the final game release.

- There will be many more characters and weapon skins available in the full version of the game.

Got the download code 45 minutes ago and the redemption code 5 minutes ago. Registered yesterday afternoon if that matters.
 
Can you record with the beta? It was 3 v 1 and I took them down for the win and I kept saying xbox record that but the videos aren't in upload
 
Literally just got a notification from Smart Glass saying MS just sent me my code. (Love this app)

Can't wait to go home tonight and download it. I had a lot of fun in my teen years with Gears... It'd be awesome to relive some of that.
 
Well my buddy who signed up today texted saying he got his codes... Closed my Steam game and sure enough I got my DL code about 10 minutes ago and beta key about 3 minutes ago. Don't give up hope people. Does suck that day 1 skin earning time is winding down though, hopefully it won't be that great but hey it's just a dumb skin.

Glad we both got in I figured he was to late but sucks that you can't party up. Can you at least play in same lobby?
 
Actually a little confused. Here is the first message I received:

You're registered for the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Beta. While you wait for Beta access choose Redeem code to pre-download the beta onto your Xbox One. Then once you are granted access you'll be ready to go!

The second:

Congratulations! Your token for full access to the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Beta is here. Choose Redeem code on your Xbox One to play the beta now. Have fun!

I would think I need to do 1 then 2 but maybe now that I have both, just #2's code?

Actives are just fine. It is a key part of Gears strategy. Don't reload in between fights. Get your active right before you roll up on your enemies and blast them apart.

First code is to download the client. Second is to give you access. If you just did the first, you could launch the client but it will tell you you don't have access.

Confirmed you can't group up (parties/friends/grandmas it doesn't matter). They answered the community question I posted at the top of the page saying the party system is currently broken/not complete. They removed it from the beta. It will be in the final release.

I did notice in social games you stay with your teammates. So if you get lucky enough to be with someone you know...
 
So I got my code, redeemed it. Then i got my other code to grant access. But when i said Xbox, use a code, it was signed in as my missus as the main user, and redeemed it against her account.

So now I can't play :(
