I am looking for a title to fill in the time gap for my GC until LoZ:TP, I am thinking about buying Geist. Can anyone who bought it tell me what they thougth of it? Like graphics, how long does it take from start to finnish, mulitplayer, gameplay, and how it compairs to other FPS this gen like Timespliters and Halo?

Don't fill the time with Geist, that's the answer. It's extremely shitty.

Gameplay has horrible AI, shitty shit controls and the multiplayer is barely competent. Although multiplayer is the best part of the title, that's not saying much. The graphics are pretty average at best, with one or two areas that say 'ok, you're ALMOST there n-Space.' But then not.

It's about 22.6 million miles away from the quality of Timesplitters, and about 93.8 million miles away from the quality of Halo.

Buy Fire Emblem if you don't own it. If you DO, then buy Chibi Robo. If you own that too, just wait until Zelda:TP because Gamecube is basically done.

Geist is a steaming pile of dung. I would avoid it at all costs.

Fire Emblem, on the other hand, is a very good game if you're into those kind of games. Also, RE4 is a must.

From now till september GEIST?? have you lost your mind let me put it like this. A friend of mine has 40NGC titles i have about 16 , we both could'nt find new games after battalion wars. So here is what we did: He bought a PS2 with Shadow of the colussus, Soul calibur III and DMC3. I bought a gaming capable PC with HL2 , Fear and NFS-Most wanted.
Do the same or buy a Xbox a DS game or a forgotten NGC game. But after filling gaps with Horrid Pokemon RPG's and Mario sport titles even BATMAN: begins we had to play games elsewere and guess what they are ALOT better then NGC fillers.

The gamecube is dead, you shouldn't waste your time on that thing believe me....

Haters be damned ... Geist is fun (been playing it off and on for about a week) ... I say dont listen to other people, play the game and come up with your own judgement ... thats what I did and I'm enjoying it.

It's bad. And like all bad things it should be consistently spoken against, though I'm tired of even thinking about that waste of money and code.

if you want an FPS, get XIII. it's much better than its reputation!

Agreed actually, liked the game a lot.

On Geist, its a solid 7. People here hate it, I thought it was decent. Good ideas. Some really clever boss battles (possess the enemy grenades in the air right after they're thrown and explode?)

I thought it was okay. I enjoyed the whole possession mechanic but would have to admit that it wasn't implemented in the best way (i.e. the game is way too linear and doesn't allow you too many ways to dipose of enemies or solve puzzles.) There is also no denying that the games a.i., graphics, and overall presentation are just sub par.

Still, an interesting multiplayer mode and decent single player pacing didn't make me regret the $15 I paid for it. Just don't expect the experience to take you very long to go through.

I got Giest for $10.00 at toys rus. If you can find it cheap, I would buy it. It not that bad, but it is not your typical first person shooter. It is fun in it's own way. It the type of game if you can look past it's flaws it is fun. I think the problem was that many were expecting it to be another Golden Eye, and it is not.

I second that. Found it in the bargian bin at my local Circuit City for less than $4. Although a glitch near the very end has seemingly stopped me from finishing. :(

oh crap. that's unfortunate. i loved the ending! but it's sad that
despite the cliffhanger there will probably never be a sequel.

A very flawed but otherwise enjoyable game that was more unrealized potential than anything else. The adventure and puzzle mechanics were much stronger than the shooter gameplay. Cool story, neat characters, nice ambience and mood, crappy graphics, fitting and moody music. GREAT ending, HORRIBLE last boss. I'd consider it to be a 7.5 out of 10. But that 7.5 is a generous one because the game tries and mostly succeeds at being different, not because it's a 7.5 caliber FPS. I can see why those who dig Metroid Prime MIGHT find something to enjoy in it. No guarantees, however.

Geist isn't all that bad, but I imagine there are better games you've not played. Like Second Sight, which is somewhat similar, but far better done (and better than Psi-Ops, too, no matter what 'they' say).

If you only have 16 games, what were you doing playing horrid Pokemon RPGs and Mario sports titles, and Batman? Not that I fault you for getting another system--more power to you--but you shouldn't have to put yourself through that stuff in order to justify it.

My main beef with Geist was that despite the awesome potential of the possession system, it still boiled down to the same generic "Do X to trigger Y" linear progression of most games. Well, that and the annoyance of the Possession animations.

Don't get me wrong, Geist has a few cool moments (possessing
hand grenades
, for example) but ultimately I got bored as it essentially came down to "Enter room, find all possessable objects, figure out the proper order to activate them, proceed."

Personally, I was hoping for more of a non-linear, do-things-in-your-own-order multiple-solutions open-ended exploration adventure thing, an expansion of Metroid Prime.

As somebody who actually played Geist, which I'm sure almost all the people in this thread aren't, I can tell you that Geist was a decent game. It wasn't fantastic by any means. The gameplay is solid, the possession mechanic is novel, and the story is good. I don't think it's worht $50, but if you can find it for $20 or $30 or have GameFly, I'd say it's worth it (especially if you get it through GameFly).

dude i think you're wrong in this particular instance. i own it and have played it and many others in this thread are clearly talking about their hands on experience.

I want your guys honest opinion. Do you guys think that geist can be made into a AAA game by n-space given they get some help from retro? I see much potential in this game and i hope N-space can turn a new page and start cranking out blockbuster for the console realm.

Geist can be made into a AAA game if n-Space gives complete control of the franchise to Retro.

I don't think Retro is in the position to be helping anyone, given they had to drop all their projects and just do one game at a time.

But Geist did have potential, so maybe with or without help, N-Space can do better. I thought Geist's biggest problem was the programming. I had the game foul up on my a few times, the largest of which was that I actually got stuck outside the game world! This was in the well-known dog food level near the beginning. I could see most of the level, but couldn't get back inside. I actually walked all the way back to the beginning of the level on the outside of the walls, and it let me back in right there next to the dog food bowl where you start.
Aside from bugs, inconsistent framerate, and so on, I think that they didn't have a real concrete idea of what they wanted the game to be before they started on it. If they've learned from the experience, their next game could turn out much better.
