Smells faintly of rancid stilton.
George Clooney may be signed on to do the voice over work of the leader of the Autobots in the Transformers movie and a new interview with director Michael Bay.

IESB says that a Canadian Entertainment TV Show is reporting that George Clooney has signed on to do the voice over work of the beloved leader of the Autobots.

Meanwhile, according to an AICN scooper Michael Bay was approached after an early test screening of The Island that was done for Dreamworks big wigs and was asked about the Transformers movie.

"At the end the crowd gave a somewhat polite applause, afterwards, I shook Bay's hand in the theater lobby and asked him about Transformers, he said that the studio (Dreamworks) was still working on the script but that he was indeed involved. He hopes to start shooting early next year, and that the voices, won't be the original cast, from the old cartoon, but different voices, bummer. He wants a fresh approach to the Transformers."

IESB is reporting a Canadian entertainment show has announced George Clooney will voice the leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime, in the upcoming live action adaptation of The Transformers. As IESB suggests, if the news is true it will probably send a shockwave of anger through the ranks of Transformers fans. Many were hoping the original voice actors from the old cartoon show would be casted, but that seems unlikely. Director Michael Bay has even gone as far as to tell IGN he’s not a fan of The Transformers TV series:

“I’m not necessarily a fan of the show, but I love the writer’s take on this. I love the whole changing up of the machines. The hook the writers have, I’m really into. I’ve always wanted to do kind of a big family movie, a franchise piece, so that’s why I’m interested in it.”

Translation: "I love money."

Old and shot down, it's not going to happen.

judging from what he did to the batman series, transformer fans can't be too pleased.

:lol :lol
dumb

IIRC, he's got a fairly appropriate voice. But this better not mean that each main character is going to be voiced by a celebrity. If Harvey Farstein voices Starscream I will kill everyone involved.

Clooney was debunked awhile ago. Yes Bay is making the transformer fan community very nervous with most of his responses. Especially one comparing directing a Transformers movie to a campbells soup movie.

Don Murphy says him and Desanto are still fighing to get the original Optimus and Megatron voice but others are not so keen on the idea. The best bet is to prepare for the worst.

Wtf? Is it that hard to get Peter Cullen to do it? Christ, it's not like the guy is busy these days. All he's been doing the last ten years is Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh crap.

It's much less a matter of difficulty than it is convincing some studio heads that a celebrity voice wouldn't be better. But again, Clooney is NOT playing Optimus Prime.

I'm sorry, the people that will be most interested in seeing this could give two shits if some currently popular celebrity is voicing the characters. It's going to be a combination of three types of people: fans of the original series, kids that are fans of the current shows, and teenagers and twentysomethings that want to see giant robots fighting it out.

Protip: Transformers fans will see this movie if Emo Phillips did the voice acting for Prime. If for no other reason than to just bitch about it.

The movie isn't catering to the fans any more than X-Men did. Their ideal target is a person who just remembers Optimus Prime being a badass red truck, but couldn't name his voice actor if they're life depended on it.

Ok, fair enough, but I can guarantee they at least have a vague recollection of what he sounds like. I'd settle for Gary Chalk, even.

I'm prepared for this movie to completely suck. Still, if they allow Cullen and Welker to do the voices, I'll be happy, no matter how shitty the script and effects turn out to be.

Also, in the Transformers new toys thread, I think we indirectly got a hint of what the new transformations are going to be. Remember that stuff on Soundwave not becoming a boom box? My guess is that he'll be a car of some sort. Notice that Shockwave is a Suberu Impreza (at least I think that's what car model it was) as opposed to a giant lazer gun.

George Clooney's voice is close to Prime's but still, I would go out on a limb to say Prime's voice was iconic of the character and to change it would be a damn shame. Also Flint Dille - the guy who wrote the Death of Optimus Prime in the Transformers Movie, does not seem to be working on this (he's been writing games story lines with John Zuur Platen for the likes of Splinter Cell and other such). Which I also feel is a damn shame.

He's only a car, because Takara likes to make people buy the same thing over and over, just with a different paint job, and a new head... and in Shockwave's case, a new hand.

No matter what or who they get, this movie is doomed to fail... With all the retarded crap they are putting in the movie, I hope it never gets made.

If they don't have the original voices for characters like Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream, and the like, I just don't want to go see any new Transformers movies. Don't give me any of this star power BS, do it right or don't do it at all.
